Talk:Retenez L'Herbe Paté

From A KoL Wiki

Google is plain wrong with it's translation. Unless that's the joke? (There's not really anything funny about it in fact)

  • I dunno, good ole altavista's bable fish translated it as "Retain The Paté Grass". --JRSiebz (|§|) 21:17, 5 April 2006 (CDT)
Actually, JR, the altavista babel fish translation of "retenez l'herbe" is "Keep off the Grass". Only when you put in the pate bit does it get confused. I don't know for sure if it does mean keep off the grass, but remember, even the english "keep off the grass" does not directly translate into what it means to us, being that it means "do not walk on the grass" not "keep (yourself) off". Perhaps retenez l'herbe implies "keep the grass (healthy, don't walk on it)"? Lotusduck 21:52, 13 April 2006 (CDT)
  • It's a french phrase, technically means "keep the grass" but in effect means "stay off the grass". That's why adding Pate screws with it. --Shokwave 09:23, 30 September 2006 (CDT)

Also, changed notes section. Originally read:

  • The name translates to "Keep the Grass" Paté or "Hold back the Grass", but according to Google translation it is equivalent to "keep off the grass." "Retenez l'Herbe Paté" doesn't means anything in French. However the right literal translation shall indeed be "Hold back the grass Paté". No doubt it is a reference to smoking grass and some sort of disturbing space cakes made of French patés.

I have no clue what the hell disturbing space cakes made of french pate and can't see grass smoking references in this item, so i removed it. --Shokwave 09:23, 30 September 2006 (CDT)

For some reason, when you search, "Cute" in the mall, the pate comes up. Something I'm missing?--Dante5454 16:26, 9 January 2007 (CST)

  • Yeah - the é is probably being stored in the database as é to account for the lack of proper Unicode support in the game. --Quietust (t|c) 16:41, 9 January 2007 (CST)

Does anyone know if it's intentional that the consume message for the paté misspells "résumé"? It should have two e-acute characters. (Yes, I guess this makes me a snób...) --Annamonster 15:08, 23 February 2008 (CST)

From the French Canadian:

  • The Literal word translation is Retain the Grass Paste, in (Acadian) French Paté does not need the 'é', just an e... while in english it does: That is why Google cannot translate Paté.
  • However, it can translate to (dropping the Paté) Protect the Grass, which is the equivalent of Keep off the Grass, just a positive as opposed to a negative message.

Is this item lost upon ascending?--Crazycolorz5 18:58, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Before you ask questions, check the page and whatnot carefully. Items marked as Quest Items will disappear when you ascend. Since this has no Quest Item flag, it will not. Argus 03:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

The Valhalla update

Ate four of these. Yields: 19, 21, 20, 20. Definitely buffed to some extent, though this isn't exactly rigorous testing. And yeah, I subtracted three apiece for milk, and I disregarded the one I ate under the effects of The Opossum. Circle 05:29, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

If anyone cares, I calculate a ~70% chance of this being a flat 18-21 range, vs. 30% chance of it being a triangular 20+/-2. No other ranges are particularly likely. --Starwed 06:17, 28 October 2011 (CEST)
