Talk:Scintillating powder

From A KoL Wiki

I got this as a noncombat adventure in the kitchen. Using this item as a pastamancer allowed me to summon a spirit called Hickhock during the first round of combat for no mana:

You conjure up a swirling cloud of spicy dried couscous, and there is a crackle of psychokinetic energy as Hickhock possesses it.

During combat, the picture of the spirit appeared left of the monster picture and one of the following messages was shown every round:

Hickhock raises his power bands and fires a cloud of confusing spice at your opponent.
Hickhock asks your opponent if she is getting enough oxygen, which is pretty much guaranteed to be "no," because of the choking cloud of spice around her head.
Hickhock engulfs your opponent's head, raising a choking cloud of spice.

No idea what anything of this does.

After combat, this text sometimes appered:

Hickhock looks stronger...

The first time I used it, I got spices after combat, but I didn't save the message.

After a few times, I would get

Your brain feels tired.

and then

You are mentally exhausted by the effort of summoning Hickhock.

when summoning it, after which I was no longer able to summon him. I have not been able to get a second one of these.

  • It's Space Ghost! Well, sort of. --Quietust (t|c) 10:10, 11 April 2008 (CDT)
    • Naw, it's definitely him! -MarcyRoni 10:47, 11 April 2008 (CDT)
      • It's Spice Ghost, I think. --Drab Emordnilap 10:50, 11 April 2008 (CDT)
        • And with a bit of Coast to Coast thrown in for good measure. --Quietust (t|c) 10:54, 11 April 2008 (CDT)

Bukbak shakes loose a considerable quantity of spice. You conjure up a canister and collect it. You acquire an item: spices ---Chopstix

OK, I got one of these today and tested it. I was able to summon 10 times. As other people have mentioned, it's like pickpocket in that you can only cast it if you get the jump. On summon #8 I started getting the "brain feels tired" message and I got the "exhausted" message on the final summon. I got the "<name> looks stronger" message on summon #4 and again at #9. This is consistent with familiar weight gain, actually. Spices dropped for me only off summon #1. Finally, my ghost acted (I'm going to assume it was deleveling) every round. --Prestige 07:35, 12 April 2008 (CDT)

One the two days when I've had this, I got spices on summon #1 and no others. Because my pastamancer is brand new, I can't really test deleveling yet. (Hopefully tomorrow.) --Starwed 01:34, 13 April 2008 (CDT)

If the leveling is consistent with familiar weight gain, is it possible that Brother Corsican's blessing affects it?--Antoids 19:24, 13 April 2008 (CDT)

Shouldn't Ghostbusters be added as a reference (PKE)? --Antoids 12:23, 27 April 2008 (CDT)

Found the plural for this item by selling two of them.

"You sell your 2 scintillating powders to an intelligent shade of blue for 800 Meat."--Vladimir 22:04, 22 May 2008 (CDT)

PKE reference

In this case PKE is a reference to Public Key Encryption, I think, re: copyright violation. Makes more sense than Ghostbusters, even if this is a ghost.--Fotav 03:43, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Eh, I doubt it. Ghostbusters does use it fairly thoroughly. At most, it's a mixed reference. --Sparksol (t|c) 03:54, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
