The "Socrates is a terrible golfer" line sounds like a non sequitur. It's an allusion to a joke that Jick made on the Nov 20 radio show. From the forum transcript:

"I'm going to do an impression of these forums: All men are mortal. B Socrates is a man. C Socrates is a good golfer. D Therefore Socrates is mortal. And everyone replies 'Socrates isn't a good golfer.'"

I thought Jick might have made up the joke himself (which would make the allusion incredibly obscure), but some light googling reveals that at least one person made the same joke in a forum two days before the radio show. So I don't know the origin or how common the joke is.
