Talk:Secret from the future
Given that it seems there will be six of these, to match the six elements, does this mean that the rewards are class-dependant? --Hollow49 11:56, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Good point, I suppose it's worth checking. I was a pastamancer and received the molten medallion --Melon 12:01, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- I also received the molten medallion as a pastamancer.--Parse 06:18, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- I just received the brazen bracelet as a Turtle Tamer.--Hollow49 13:27, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- I also received the brazen bracelet as a Turtle Tamer.--Cait 21:59, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- I received the bitter bowtie as a Disco Bandit. --TheArchivist 13:31, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- looking at the users who created the monstrous monocle and bewitching boots pages, I notice that their (main) characters are currently a Seal Clubber and Accordion Thief respectively. Not conclusive, but suggestive.--Hollow49 13:41, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- I got a monstrous monocle as a Seal Clubber.--Foggy 18:40, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- I also got the bitter bowtie as a Disco Bandit. This is looking pretty conclusive!--Azeltir 14:44, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

- I got the bewitching boots as a Sauceror. I guess this system isn't entirely accurate yet. --Grogum the Violent Activist 09:14, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- musty moccasins as an AT. Perhaps the Sauceror and AT items are flipped? --Crawly2 10:39, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I got the bitter bowtie as a Disco Bandit. --BunnyStalker 14:53, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
And I also got the molten medallion as a Pastamancer. That's enough consistency to convince me. I think it is time to make a chart:
Class | Reward |
---|---|
Seal Clubber | Monstrous Monocle |
Turtle Tamer | Brazen Bracelet |
Pastamancer | Molten Medallion |
Sauceror | Bewitching Boots |
Disco Bandit | Bitter Bowtie |
Accordion Thief | Musty Moccasins |

a little behavior... I got one box as a SC and one as a DB. They stacked in inv without a “multiuse” option. Opened one of the two as a S and received the expected bewitching boots. Completed “future” a third time and opened the remaining 2 boxes as a S. Two more pairs of boots. Wore the boots throughout the future quest, wore the boots and pork elf prizes after completing Hyboria. Nothing overt or unexpected happened. --Ranrar 08:36, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Raw Speculation
I'm looking forward to what may happen when the quest is cleared multiple times as the same class. There's a chance that you'll get one more of the item, and reward is more of the type "Hey, look what I managed to do!" As the aspirin says, "They can't all be winners, kid." On the other hand, 65 base stat seems somewhat high for an item that gives slight resistance to one element and 5% items/10% meat. For example, fuzzy green earmuffs give slight resistance to one element and require 7 basestat; infernal insoles give a 10% initiative boost as well as slight resistance, at 15 basestat. Looking at other, comparable items on meat from monsters, I'm seeing the Baron's money clip with 15% for 10 basestat, ascots with 20% at 10 basestat, the trains with 10% at 15 basestat, and rabbit feet at 7% at 15 basestat. It's closest in nature, if anything, to the money clip - a once-per-ascension quest reward, complete with a boss. My point with this, is that I'm wondering if when you earn another, does it upgrade the one you already have, or do you just get another piece of bragging rights? --Parse 22:12, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
All six items are accessories, and none of them are marked 'you can only use one of these at a time'. Also, here's a quote from Skully in the forums: "You'll find that there's more to them than meets the eye, if you wear more than one of them at a time." So whether he's talking about more than one of the same item, or more than one different item, there's something interesting here. --Jef 15:37, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, could Skully's "more than meets the eye" be a Transformers reference? Maybe wearing the three B accessories turns you into an Autobot and the three Ms turn you into a Decepticon. --Jef 19:41, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
I think the special effects alluded to by Skully will appear when wearing all 3 (or maybe some extra effects at just 2) of the accessories with the corresponding letters, since you can only wear 3 at the same time, and 3 of them are alliterations of M (i.e. Monstrous Monocle), and 3 are alliterations with B (i.e. Bitter Bowtie). I'm going to try for the B set, but I'm not exactly a fast ascender.--Vincent Vans 14:45, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- I've got four of the six. I've got the whole M set, and it does nothing as far as I can see. The enchantment is the same, there are no skills granted in or out of combat. I'm going to try to spade hidden effects. --Orochidp 16:04, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Anyone have a sequence, like from the element of surprise? Hot->cold->stench, cold->stench->sleaze, stench->sleaze->spooky, sleaze->spooky->cute... and or tried them in different orders? (ie cute on top)
I am really surprised that noone has done any work on this since the items were fixed. So far it seems that having one of each of the M items gives moderate resistance to those elements though I haven't checked more than that.--Stormcaller58 02:43, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Some had been spaded, shortly after they were fixed. The Ms are presumably analogous to the Bs, but items is harder to spade and I didn't have the Ms. The info was on the item pages but not this one, those have been updated with the resistance info and the information has now been put here as well. Very high chance that the Ms give 5%/15% +item bonus though this is harder to spade, and will have to wait a while unless someone else spades them, as I've got a while before I'll be a SC to grab the last one. Sorry for letting someone else do the wiki after spading, thanks to Ranrar for the actual legwork. --Cracona 23:30, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- So... basically 3 B-items is just like 3 natty blue ascots meatwise, right? --Hrag 13:50, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Observations
I had nothing equipped, and had Low resistance to all elements. I equipped the brazen bracelet, and had Moderate sleaze resistance, as expected. I then equipped the bewitching boots, and got Considerable resistance to sleaze, but still Low resistance to all others. --MindlessGames 13:50, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
The more of them you wear, the more they boost elemental resistance. I have low resistance in everything from the passive skills. One item bumps my resistance to its element up to moderate, two items gives considerable in both, and three gives high in each. --WillGruff 06:22, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Avatar of Boris
I completed this quest in on ascension and then in a softcore Avatar of Boris pulled it from Hagnk's and opened it. The message was completely unchanged, but I got a broken image for the icon and no name for the item name. Nothing new appeared in my inventory. I have reported the bug. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:27, 21 February 2012 (CET)
- And I've gotten a confirmation that it is a bug and will be looked at. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 21:14, 21 February 2012 (CET)

Just completed this quest completely within a SC AoSP, got the monstrous monocle. --Cripzy (talk) 03:09, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
Avatar of Shadows Over Loathing
A Pig Skinner got the monstrous monocle as well, guessing that all non-core classes will result in one of those now, based upon reporting in this page and the main article. (BlortHorc (talk) 14:43, 28 March 2023 (UTC))
