Talk:Skill MP Cost Modifiers

From A KoL Wiki
  • Should this page be renamed? To me, 'Skill Cost' means the cost of skills, not the items that reduce said cost.Deveiel 08:17, 11 July 2006 (CDT)

The maximum reduction is -3mp, right? Not just the reduction from items, but effects count (Dreams and Lights) too, correct? The page should make that clear. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 19:12, 12 April 2007 (CDT)

How does the maximum MP reduction thing work with things that increase MP costs. Will Radiating Black Body stack with the Amulet of Yendor to give +6 MP per skill, or is this also capped? I have tested that with a Radiating Black Body(+3), a Plexiglass Pocketwatch(-3), and a Stainless Steel Solitaire(-2), MP costs are at -2 per skill. This indicates that having more than -3 MP to skill cost can help, if only to offset a penalty of the same nature.--SketchySolid 12:58, 28 July 2007 (CDT)

Suggestion: Split off those that don't stack from those that are limited by the -3 qualifier. It's a bit like the difference between percentage multipliers and absolute multipliers, in that they affect different parts of the formula. --Raijinili 00:54, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

cost alteration

On the page it says that no skill may cost less than 1MP, but for Saucerors Salsaball costs 0MP. Also, when I was wearing the Mer-Kin Scholar Tailpiece, giving my skills +2MP to the cost, Salsaball still cost 0MP to cast, but I was unable to cast it when I only had 1MP. --Fyll (talk) 10:05, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

  • the page is right but misleading. the cost of a skill will never be reduced below 1MP. that is, skills which have an MP cost will always cost at least 1MP. it sounds as though the 0MP skills use a different mechanic, given that that increasers don't have an effect. can you use them with 0MP if you don't have an increaser running? if so then i'd say that's a bug. and there's an exception to the no more than -3 rule, the feast of jarlsberg stacks so you can get -6. --Evilkolbot (talk) 11:38, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
    • Yeah, without any modifiers it says it costs 0MP and can be cast for 0MP, with 0MP, but with the +2 modifier it says it costs 0MP, can be cast for 0MP, but only when I have at least 2MP. --Fyll (talk) 09:29, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
  • pretty much the definition of edge case. i doubt they'd prioritise it. should still be reported as a bug, though. you'll probably get a nice email from gemelli. yay! --Evilkolbot (talk) 09:35, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
