Talk:Spaghetti Demon
The combat start text:
The rocky island shudders beneath your feet as a tremendous rumbling shakes the cavern. An explosion of lava bursts from the fiery lake, and you cover your face to protect yourself from flying droplets of red-hot magma.
Dramatic organ music fills the air as you slowly lower your hands to witness a monstrosity rise from the molten rock. Wreathed in flames, a wriggling mass of charred noodles opens its glowing red eyes and transfixes you with its glare. Dozens of mouths open and howl in unison: "Pastamancer! Now you die!"
Numerous writhing, screeching, biting tendrils rush toward you. One of them snags your ankle, hoisting you into the air and throwing you across the small island. You hit the stone altar heavily, and sit, dazed, as the mass of noodles snake toward you.
There is a blinding flash of light, and a chorus of heavenly voices rises in counterpoint to the ominous organ music. You watch, mystified, as your Greek Pasta of Peril transforms before your eyes, the bowl of the shining metal pasta spoon becoming wreathed in a fiery red vortex. As the light fades, the spoon rises into the air, pulling you to your feet.
The Spaghetti Demon's scream reverberates inside your skull: "No more games! No more tricks! This time I will finish you!" --UrQuan 20:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Init
It's unclear if you get the improved init bonus when your weapon transforms, and it doesn't really matter too much. Ignoring whatever the bonus is from your pasta spoon, I got the jump 25/25 times with +55% init, and lost 0/36 times with -40%, with myst < 200. So I'd say the init is 80, assuming you count the original bonus from your epic weapon. --Starwed 19:44, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
attacks are special moves?
All four of the Spaghetti Elemental's screeching tentacle-mouths rush forward and latch onto you. You struggle, but feel your both your magical essences and physical juices being drained at an alarming rate. The aberration laughs uproariously as you drop to the ground, dizzy and close to fainting.

there's no Ow! s here, so i guess these attacks are special moves, not regular hits? --Hrag 21:17, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- seems like all it's attacks are special moves unless you entangle it with noodles... hmm... --Hrag 21:35, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
The special attacks are at 34% of max HP, rounded up. That makes perfect sense, since that will just barely kill you in three attacks.
Data behind this: at 500 max HP, it did 170 damage. At 502, it did 171. --Starwed 14:50, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
200 Attack?
It seems the Spaghetti Demon has more than that, because it was able to hit me with regular attacks while I had 288 buffed moxie. --Sea Hatake 01:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- to hit you with the special move or regular attack while entangled with noodles? --Hrag 12:27, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- It hit me while it was entangled, so it was a regular attack. It didn't do much damage, though, so I think its attack might be more like 300.--Sea Hatake 17:37, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- Just rechecked, and the dwarvish hat still gives me 200. Can anyone else check?--Ryo_Sangnoir 18:45, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- I potioned myself up to 900+ stats, and it still hit me with its non-special attack each round. It only did 5 points of damage per hit, though. It looks like its non-special attack does not use normal mechanics.--Rpxx 19:19, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Any Unusual Pasta Guardian Interaction?
Has anyone noticed various pasta guardians doing anything out of the ordinary against this fellow? For example: does a level 10 spaghetti elemental just do its usual routine if you get the opportunity to unleash it?--Noskilz 20:32, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- And the answer: Nothing unusual happens - not against the bodyguards, the nemesis spaghetti elemental, or the spaghetti demon. The pasta guardian spaghetti elemental does function normally, which isn't a bad thing, but whether it's worth getting it to level 10 for that particular fight is something else.--Noskilz 16:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's useless to get it to level 10. I tried that this run, spent a couple of days getting it that far, and then found that I got the jump on the Spaghetti Demon, but wasn't offered the summoning button for my elemental, although I still had about 6 summons left for today (no, I did NOT put on the bandolier for verifying this - with it, it's 11 more summons). Quite disappointing. -- Ruby Eyes 09:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Soft damage cap
It's listed as having resistance. Could this be a soft damage cap instead? I was using Weapon of the Pastalord on it with +75% spell damage and 950 Myst, and only doing 115 or so damage per hit. --Rpxx 19:27, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, it has a soft damage cap as well as resistance.
- If you would do < 125 damage, you do 60% of the expected damage.
- If more, a soft damage cap kicks in. If you'd expect to do X damage, instead you do
- Damage = Ceiling[ 0.6 ( 125 + [X-125]0.673 ) ]
- 0.673 seems like a fairly arbitrary number, but it does fit pretty much all the data I took, being off by 1 damage for some of the lower values of X. Could just be that I'm putting floor/ceiling functions in the wrong places.
- Data was taken in ranges from 125 to 1725 expected damage --Starwed 15:34, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Ok, found an accurate formula that makes more sense; if X is the damage after applying the 60% damage reduction, and it's over 75, the formula is
- Damage = ⌊75 + (X-75)0.65⌋

Strategy
Perhaps we should put the general strategy for beating it more clearly on the main page? To me, it appears to be (at least one of them): gain initiative, use Entangling Noodles twice, then alternate some damage source with Entangling Noodles. That should keep it from ever using its special attack. Not sure what to do about its normal attack other than to have a high Moxie.--Rpxx 19:27, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
I had pretty good luck with a level 10 spice ghost and a 15-pound levitating potato. Even at level 13 with ~150 buffed moxie, it only took me two tries to win because the demon's normal attacks kept missing before long. I didn't need any healing or items. Just Noodles of Fire, Weapon of the Pastalord, and Entangling Noodles every second turn.--Pilomotor 01:10, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
+1 to using the potato. After several failures, I tried the potato + entangling noodles, and it worked like a charm. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Quax (talk • contribs) on 08:22, 2010 May 5
Latest run: Got 6 filthy poultices from the war and went into the fight with 122 max HP (no Spirit of Ravioli). My noodles were basically without any effect no matter if fire or not (kind of repeating the experience I had from other pasta runs), so I just switched constantly between using a poultice and casting Fearful Fettucini, no 2nd attempt needed. Familiar was a sandworm, thus useless for the fight. I even have 1 poultice left. I do think that Spirit of Ravioli is somewhat the opposite of helpful for this fight - if I had bought it on that character, I'd probably have gotten some red pixel potions for the fight before going in. -- Ruby Eyes 09:33, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
I had miserable luck with the entangling strategy. If he is entangled, his 200 attack deals heavy damage. If not entangled his special attack deals heavy damage. If you are in bad moon, its pretty much the same difference. Due to damage reduction and forced usage of epic weapon, your chefstaff is worthless. Your best bet is to start with Flaming Noodles and then spam Fearful fetticini until you win. Unfortunately in the meantime, expect to use 2 or 3 scented massage oils. The good news is that the extra MP/HP from the accessories is pretty handy in the Battlefield. SinginSally 15:52, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
