Talk:Special challenge path
Shouldn't this page have the dates each special path runs under the season? --Arckanghel 13:13, 27 July 2011 (CEST)
- yes, good call. done. not elegantly, but. --Evilkolbot 13:23, 27 July 2011 (CEST)
Is it still possible to choose the BHY challenge path, just not with the extra karma at the end? I'd hate to see the honey stuff going extinct... --Jimfromtx 00:11, 16 August 2011 (CEST)
- I'd like to ask this question again, since a trophy just got discovered for it. --LegendaryBard 05:09, 1 October 2011 (CEST)
- Yes. This was stated well in advance of the advent of challenge paths -- old paths will continue to be available. --Starwed 05:30, 1 October 2011 (CEST)
- Yes, you can choose any old challenge path without the Karma bonus. It's listed under "Old Challenge Paths" or something to that effect, under the lifestyle option in Valhalla.--Mr. Green 15:54, 1 October 2011 (CEST)
Might be nice to put this table in a user sortable format so people can choose descending or ascending by date or name. Also possibly default ascending date so the current path is on top of the page?--tophat 17:04, 15 September 2012 (CEST)
I've just run through a couple off-season challenges (class act softcore and avatar of boris hardcore) for the first time, and I can confirm that you get 50 or 100 extra karma, same as on-season. This is related to the 4 March 2013 announcement. I updated the nondiscussion text to address this. --Daaaaang (talk) 13:48, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
- Still a question (for me, at least), does doing a challenge act for the first time HC count separately from doing it the first time SC? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 15:26, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
Commendations
- Rupatupa (#354523) has a special challenge commendation, a bronze button. seems to be missing from the wiki. what is it? are there silver and gold too? --Evilkolbot 23:53, 11 December 2011 (CET)
- It's for getting on the leaderboard for a challenge run: http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/showthread.php?t=189565 --Erich 23:57, 11 December 2011 (CET)
- so it's been out there for two months, nearly, and no one's put it on the wiki? ouch. -Evilkolbot 00:06, 12 December 2011 (CET)
- How do you want to go about it? Since it's not an item, per se. Put mentions in Challenge Path, Leaderboards, and Profile? I'll see about uploading the pics.--Erich 03:03, 12 December 2011 (CET)
- We have pages for clan trophies, we can have pages for challenge path awards. Or at least redirects to a page that documents them. I just ran across a Bronze Button and came to the wiki to find out more about it. This page might be a good place to document it. What I'd suggest we need is (1) how to get them; (2) messages and/or controls associated with them (can they be hidden?); (3) an example of how they are displayed. As measured by get-an-extra-Instant Karma-for-freeing-the-King, I got on a challenge leader board once, but I don't have a button. (I was actually pretty surprised by that, I'm more of a steady plod than speed runner.) --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:03, 14 December 2011 (CET)

Non-traditional Classes
This page and the avatar challenge pages (Sneaky Pete, Jarlsberg, Boris and Zombie Slayer) need to be updated to show that hardcores do _not_ get the stainless steel items of their chosen class after freeing the king. This is apparently a frustrating and surprising side effect of doing the challenges hardcore. Exixx (talk) 21:22, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't want to sound rude, I just want to know for finding out what the problem is: Which item did you expect to get in those avatar classes? The wiki doesn't list a specific stainless item for Boris for example. He's Boris – he doesn't club seals or tame turtles. --Yatsufusa (talk) 03:49, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- No, you don't sound rude, it's a valid question, but I'm guessing you didn't play before NS13 and the challenges much. Part of the reward and reason for doing hc and oxy runs was always to get the gear. I like the avatar runs, but it's a disappointment to not get a stainless item or really anything for doing an avatar hc run, especially since you choose a class and have to buy the spells you want to perm after freeing the king. I just felt that there should be a note that you don't get the gear on this page since all the other challenge paths work like regular ascensions, as far as the rewards go. Also, there's a note indicating that you don't get the item on the Sneaky Pete page, but not on the others, and not on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Exixx (talk • contribs) on 00:05, 24 July 2014
- Having had some time to reflect on this, maybe it is a good idea to list which challenge paths drop stainless/plexiglass items and which don't. While there certainly is a point where there's too much information on a single page, this page isn't there, yet. ;) Unfortunately I can't offer detailed notes, but I'll list what I find on the wiki and mark the rest. --Yatsufusa (talk) 06:04, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
- I wouldn't want to edit anything without saying mentioning as much (or even edit anything really) but I did want to point out that the Bugbear Captain doesn't drop a stainless item in HC. I was reminded in my recent playthrough. --Rabbit House (talk) 12:23, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Type 69-Rewards
Do you get in-season only rewards if you finish in the season, or if your current run was started in-season? For instance, if I start a Heavy Rains run on November 12, will I get the Rainbow if I finish the run? --John Dorian 00:20, 10 November 2014 (EST)
- In season rewards are only awarded if you finish the path while it is still the current seasonal path. When the new challenge path is released the old path will immediately be freed of t69 restrictions AND it will stop awarding the seasonal award. This should be listed somewhere on the page, but I'm not sure where. --Bale (talk) 05:49, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- That's right: No beautiful rainbows will drop after November 14, 2014. But you will at least still get the bonus karma if the path was in-season when you started it. (source) --Yatsufusa (talk) 12:38, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- you get the exta karma if it's your first time through... this may be what's confusing everyone. also, CDM had to turn bottled days off manually and there was a slight lag when they still dropped after the path had ended. don't rely on that happening again, though. also also, the rewards are not for it being type69. if you break ronin type69 is dropped but you still get the reward. --Evilkolbot (talk) 12:52, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

- I added information on type69 and in-season rewards to the page. I think it looks kinda rough, so please edit it into submission. At least the information now exists somewhere other than talk pages and the forum. --Bale (talk) 02:46, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- I noticed that the Slow and Steady page still has old info about type69 on it that's no longer relevant. Should we move the detailed type69 info (including all those "you can't use this" messages) off of individual challenge path pages and consolidate it on this page? --Prestige (talk) 03:20, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, the Type69 bits that don't apply to the Slow and Steady path anymore should be removed/moved here, if there are salvageable bits. --Yatsufusa (talk) 12:56, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- It appears that the t69 messages are consistent across Slow and Steady and Heavy Rains. So I'm thinking I should move all the t69 details here, and have future challenge path pages point here instead of duplicating the info on all of them. But maybe I'll wait a few days just to check whether the new challenge path is also consistent. --Prestige (talk) 02:06, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

In-Season Reward Dropping AFTER End of Season?
Hi. Finished up a Hardcore Picky run after Ed was released. The run was started prior to Ed's release, but finished after (02/22/15), which means I shouldn't have gotten the tweezers, but I did (at least according to my reading of the Wiki). The Type69 restrictions did not drop as well. --Lego6245 (talk) 14:43, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Grey Goo still drops the ring. I finished a run just prior to my current run, and got another one. --Rick Tyger 4:33am, 15 May 2021 (CST)
standard vs challenge
it's easier to think that the extra karma is for the standard restrictions not the challenge path, is it not? indistinguishable, anyway.
- play normally not under standard restrictions - no karma
- play challenge path not under standard restrictions - no karma (except the first time)
- play challenge path under standard restrictions - karma
- play normally under standard restrictions - karma
(i'd make a table but i have less than one minute.) am i missing something? --Evilkolbot (talk) 13:29, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Found this quote a couple sections up, does it still apply? "the rewards are not for it being type69. if you break ronin type69 is dropped but you still get the reward. --Evilkolbot (talk) 12:52, 10 November 2014 (UTC)" So maybe not 'indistinguishable'. --timrem (talk) 13:39, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- ahem, yes. stupid complicated memory. oh well. --Evilkolbot (talk) 06:31, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- although to be fair that was talking about special challenge path rewards and it was before standard was a thing. still applies, though, and i'm still blushing. --Evilkolbot (talk) 06:36, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Path Number
I notice that path number is repeated for Gray Goo and You, Robot. I also notice that path number is not correlated with the Paths by number page. Should the path align? Is that repeat correct? --Bphillab 21:32:12, 17 February 2021
I was the one who messed up the path number for YR, sorry. Copy-paste mistake. The paths by number page appears to use ID numbers, which could probably stand to be clarified somewhere, while this one just counts them in terms of how many there have been. The difference is because the former includes a couple unreleased paths, Boozetefarian, Teetotaler, and Oxy, and Standard in its count. --MoonshoesMcBango 01:37, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
