New Booze

Anyone find any new messages with the new booze from the worm wood? I'm in hardcore and can't test now.--SnatchForFree 19:00, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

References

Removed the reference to the show "look around you" from the BBC; the "Helvetica scenario" has nothing to do with hobos. The show's a science parody, and the "Helvetica Scenario" was about calcium atoms collapsing.

This is almost certainly another Senor Cardgade ref; see the link in that section.

For those who don't know--Helvetica is a commonly used font. Senor Cardgage has a habit of using words that sound like femine names to refer to people.

Could we please stop Googling lines from this game and assuming the first result is what they are referencing?!? THANKS! Could you please stop not signing your posts?!?! THANKS!! --Kookoo275 22:46, 12 June 2006 (CDT)

Changed the reference of the Queen of America line from Joshua A. Norton (the self-proclaimed Emperor of America) to Disney's The Three Musketeers, which actually references a "Queen of America." - Jclast 14 June 2006

Giving booze to the hobo

The number of MP recovery attacks is equal to the number of adventures that you would get from the booze item that the hobo drinks. Jick announced this on the show tonight. - silverwolf727 5-1-06 9:42 pm I'm not sure if the messages for giving thehobo booze vary based on the booze given. A few tests:

ice-cold fotie:

  • You give Delirium Trevor your ice-cold fotie.
  • Delirium Trevor puts it in a paper bag and downs it in one gulp. "Here's to Foul Ole' Ron," he says, belching.

mad train wine:

  • You give Delirium Trevor your Mad Train wine.
  • He seems unsure how to drink it, since he can't put it in a paper bag, but eventually tosses it back. "Y'know, I used to be the Queen of America," he says.

whiskey sour:

  • You give Delirium Trevor your whiskey sour.
  • He seems unsure how to drink it, since he can't put it in a paper bag, but eventually tosses it back. "Y'know, I used to be the Queen of America," he says.

ice-cold Sir Schlitz:

  • You give Delirium Trevor your ice-cold Sir Schlitz.
  • Delirium Trevor puts it in a paper bag and downs it in one gulp. "Here's to Foul Ole' Ron," he says, belching.

It looks like all drinks are baggable or unbaggable, and that determines which of these messages should be given. How should we note this, and where? -Dayv 00:01, 1 May 2006 (CDT)

a little sump'm sump'm, calle de miel, perpendicular hula, pink pony, rockin' wagon, roll in the hay, slap and tickle,

  • You give Arnold Sideways your <drink>.
  • He tries to pour it into a paper bag to drink it, then has to lick the bag. "Let me tell ya ... let me tell ya... let me tell ya somethin', kiddo," he says. But then doesn't say anything else.

bloody beer, green beer, Imp Ale

  • You give Arnold Sideways your <drink>.
  • Arnold Sideways puts it in a paper bag and downs it in one gulp. "Here's to Foul Ole' Ron," he says, belching.

dirty martini

  • You give Arnold Sideways your <drink>.
  • He pounds it down, then looks vaguely troubled. He hiccups several times and coughs up the tiny plastic sword. "Looks like there's a war goin' on with the plastic people in my belly," he says.

You acquire an item: tiny plastic sword

dry martini, extra-spicy bloody mary, grog, martini, monkey wrench, papaya sling, papaya slung, redrum, salty dog, salty slug, screwdriver, strawberry daiquiri, strawberry wine, tequila sunrise, tequila with training wheels, tomato daiquiri, vodka and cranberry, whiskey and cola, whiskey sour, white lightning, wine spritzer

  • You give Arnold Sideways your <drink>.
  • He seems unsure how to drink it, since he can't put it in a paper bag, but eventually tosses it back. "Y'know, I used to be the Queen of America," he says.

Shot of grapefruit schnapps, shot of orange schnapps

  • You give Arnold Sideways your <drink>.
  • He puts it in a paper bag and sips it slowly. "Here's mud in the smoke in your eyes," he says.

i think each message is for a class of drinks, but we still need more tests. -padmaclynne 00:12, 1 May 2006 (MST)

i reformatted the drink message list and sorted by booze type. it seems like padmaclynne's info shows that 2nd tier drinks give the "queen of america" message, but we've also got the "let me tell ya..." message in that category. i've only gotten that one when i give DB drinks... has anyone actually gotten the "let me tell ya..." for a 2nd tier drink, and if so, which one?--M0ng010id 10:33, 1 May 2006 (CDT)

MP recovery

When it has been given booze, it will sometimes give you X MP after combat. With a 7-pound hobo, I have gotten 5 MP once and 9 MP once. -Dayv 00:11, 1 May 2006 (CDT)

Does the "Booze Counter," or whatever we're going to call it, remain through Ascensions (i.e., can you load the Spirit Hobo up on TPS Drinks, then Ascend, with it still restoring your MP)? --Chish 18:43, 4 May 2006 (CDT)

How about rollover? --DataVortex 02:24, 20 May 2006 (CDT)

Incresing number of acts

Did a bit of testing and found out that Ode to Booze works on Hobo too, adds one extra "act".
The equipment seems to add something between 20% to 40% to the number of "acts" it does. I had too few adventures and too little time to do more testing before ascending again. What would be best is if someone could work through about 20 TPS drinks and write down how many times the hobo acts with each drink.
The way to do it is to give hobo one TPS drink, adventure and write down number of acts until you get the message which indicates it is out of acts (<name> looks at you with bloodshot eyes, and mumbles, "Oh, Helvetica, damn good girl she was... I miss her so much," before laying down for a nap.). Give hobo a new TPS drink and repeat. Make sure you remember if you have Ode active or not.
With those numbers we should be able to get a more exact value than I got. It would of course work with lesser drinks, but the increase is more noticeable on bigger drinks. -- NitraMo SA IA TT 17:03, 5 May 2006 (CDT)

What about blender? Does it affect the hobo?

Damaging

I just attacked an enemy, missed, and my Hobo had the "empty bottle" message. No other damage happened, but the monster died. I believe that the act of light passing through the bottle damages the monsters in some way.--Terrabull 23:51, 8 May 2006 (CDT)

  • Follow up testing has confirmed that he has done at least 7 damage during my attack.

Testing of my own reveals that the damage is, at minimum, about 17 for a 20 pound hobo. Determined this by beating the Naughty Sorceress - the sum total of my damage was 150, and the Hobo attacked three times, finishing her off with the last hit. --Sel Ibrix 01:48, 9 May 2006 (CDT)

Considering the hobo is supposed to act like a starfish, I would expect it to do the same thing as a starfish - deal damage and restore MP simultaneously.--Yiab 03:10, 20 May 2006 (CDT)

Damage is now displayed: (Spirit Hobo) holds up an empty bottle of booze and gazes at it sadly. Starlight filters through the bottle, through the spirit hobo, and through the booze inside the spirit hobo, then pierces your opponent for 27 damage, and then shines into you. What the hell?----Blathersby 00:18, 2 August 2006 (CDT)

Nash Crosby's Still

Any weird new messages from the drinks made from the Still?--Someone Else 07:30, 25 May 2006 (CDT)

We still need the arena message for the spirit hobo. I'd do it, but I don't have one. --Verfanor 21:21, 4 August 2006 (CDT)

I can confirm messages for each level of the Still drinks, having tested with boxed champagne, mimosette, and Gordon Bennet respectively. Boxed champagne and mimosette gave me the Queen of America message, the Gordon Bennet gave me the "let me tell ya" business. So, nothing new at all. --Genbu Cosplayer 23:58, 23 October 2006 (CDT)

"Encourage Chugging"?

Does anyone know what the "[Encourage Chugging]" link on the terrarium page means? Prefect 19:58, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Use it. It means you can feed booze to your hobo en masse. --Bale 22:00, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
