Talk:Swimming with Sharks

From A KoL Wiki

What does it do?

The effect is probably specific to The Sea. It sounds like it would make them to take 1 Adventure instead of 2. Of course, Fishy already does that, albeit at the cost of Fullness. How is Swimming with Sharks limited? Is it by Spleen, another counter, or just rarity?. Alternatively, it might allow underwater adventuring without makeshift SCUBA gear. (It could even do both things!) --Dkohler 20:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

It does not reduce the adventure cost in the sea. It does not cost spleen or any other resource as far as I can tell. --Fig bucket 20:39, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd guess increases the droprate of fish meat and other fishy foods--Shoveller 23:15, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Anyone tried adventuring in the sea without SCUBA gear with this active? The description seems to indicate this is a possibility. ErstwhileWarrior 20:37, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

The cartilage use message says, "...what you'd really like right now is some fresh blood." Could it be a hint to Fishbreath from the bazookafish gum? --Sparksol (t|c) 08:02, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Having this effect while eating fish meat does not provide any benefits (at least none beyond Pete's sake, which I also had running at the time). While it may increase drops of fish meat, I did not see any special messages when using it in the Briny Deeps. --Prestige 12:22, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
As mentioned in the talk for fishbreath, there is no addition effect for having this active then chewing gum. --Fireyflame 17:32, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

I've also tried drinking a bottle of used blood, and having the bloody hand effect. Nothing interesting there. --Ahamster 11:32, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

So, an interesting fact about octopus gardeners reveals that if you run at -40% meat drops, you can get negative meat at the end of combat. (this is not exploitable for infinite meat, don't bother trying) However, the important thing is that this means there could be a hidden flat -meat drop penalty from being under water. My guess is that this effect negates that penalty. Unfortunately I don't have any cartilage at the moment so someone else will need to confirm. --Abysmalminton 19:10, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, I've tested it on the beanbats for 30 adventures, with an average meat drop of 39.56 (with no other effects running, of course) which gives me a 16.8% meat increase. So the effect is definitely meat drops, and it works out of water. It may be more effective in water, although this will be harder to test since the meat drops on fish aren't known as well as the beanbats. --Ahamster 22:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
