Talk:The Hole in the Sky
Is the Mainstat required for the Hole correct? It is BASE, not BOOSTED stats that it checks for that? Because I have a Pastamancer that has only 98 Myst right now, and I was able to adventure there.
--Rithe 13:19, 30 August 2006 (CDT)
I, um, ran into "The Skinflute" today.
"This constellation depicts a flute, made out of some sort of animal hide. That's kind of creepy on lots of different levels. It gets the jump on you.
It tries to hypnotize you into playing it, but you're determined not to go down that way."
It yielded one line, and 45 stat points with a 35-lb monkey.

I thought these adventures would change, but the 2 lines 2 stars item drop seems kinda funny for some reason...--Dehstil 01:02, 15 May 2006 (CDT)
did you happen to go stargazing before? it would be nice if you only ran into them because you discovered them...--Shlaan 02:41, 15 May 2006 (CDT)
I don't think the skin flute is the only hits monster that can drop four things at once. I got two lines. Therefore I removed one of the stars. MoxFulder 12:39, 15 May 2006 (CDT)
Update to this: Got two stars now. It CAN drop four items. Reverted my previous edit. MoxFulder --Confirmation: I just got 2 stars and 2 lines from the skinflute -MetBoy
I have yet to go stargazing, so no, that's not a prereq.
- The burrowing bishop needs updating - it can't be 5 moxie for a no hit (its probably 175) --Grimdel 22:26, 26 May 2006 (PDT)
- Same for The Skinflute, the moxie for no hit is incorrect. It says 4 moxie for no hit and I just got hit with a buffed moxie of 161 (base 80)--Nopsine 09:37, 2 August 2006 (CDT)
edit: just cast one entangling noodles and it was unable to hit me so it is probable that the value should read '164 moxie for no hit'--Nopsine 09:39, 2 August 2006 (CDT)
I went adventuring here with my disco bandit and used my precision develing skills and a dictionary to update these monster's levels. Holler 02:54, 3 August 2006 (CDT)
--Corellie 20:08, 15 May 2006 (CDT)
I removed a star for the Bishop. See http ://www.iocainepowder.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=47075#47075 for details. Sorry for the garbled link; Wiki doesn't allow me to use real links. MoxFulder 19:24, 31 May 2006 (CDT)
Hit Point Values
These Hit Point values might not be accurate, as I just dealt exactly 150 damage to The Family Jewels and they survived. --Mister Shiggedy 00:01, 17 October 2006 (CDT)
- Mister Shiggedy is definitely right. I hit the family jewels for only 148 damage and they died. They must have some variable HP. --Ringzhz 10:12PM, 1/28/07 EST
- It's been known for a while that monsters have slight monster level variance, frequently varying the hit points of (especially high level) monsters plus or minus four. --TheDotGamer 21:30, 28 January 2007 (CST)
References
- Since the area is just a title, any proposed reference would be speculation.--Evilkolbot 13:37, 15 May 2006 (CDT)
- It's NOT speculation... they are all commonly known euphamisms for genatalia. Hence the references to beavers...--Kookoo275 18:59, 19 May 2006 (CDT)
- I removed the line from the References section, "Some of the references can be seen from Monty Python's song Isn't it Awfully Nice to Have a Penis?. Use the information there to understand the euphemisms.", because it is incorrect. None of the euphemisms that are used as monster names are mentioned in that song. I also don't think its required to reference the song at all, as it is not the sole source of penis-names in English literature. Pobblebonk 12:09, 12 February 2007 (CST)
- look at me, not seeing this until a year later. oh well. it's not the genitalia references i'm objecting to. the page lists things that mention holes in the sky, but since "the hole in the sky" is only a title there is no evidence that any of these references are anything but coincidence. this is even more true over at The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky. --Evilkolbot 01:55, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
The update stated that the new monsters appear "on alternating ascensions." Assuming that's meant literally, should the new monsters be listed separately or mixed in with the old ones? --Starwed 08:48, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
- Leading to the question, do both sets of monsters appear at once? --Manial 09:34, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
- I would say that they should probably be separated because no, both sets do not appear at once. --TheDotGamer 09:50, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
It should probably be noted somewhere that the original set of monsters were all references to male genitalia, but the new set of monsters are all references to female genitalia. --Fryguy9 08:59, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
- Since someone just added in "and female", I thought I should clarify my statement by saying that if we do decide to list the monsters separately, the reference should be split as well. Something to the effect of: "Apart from the Astronomer, all of the monsters' names in the first set of monsters are euphemisms for male genitalia, and those in the second set of monsters are euphamisms for female genitalia." --Fryguy9 09:45, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
Not sure if this is really relevant or not but it could add a sense of completeness: Apparently, in some circles, the word "astronomer"[1] is used as a slang term for one who goes all night. --Awdball 17:40, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
I just adventured for 23 adventures in the HiTS (Odd day) and recieved no astronomer adventures. Is this because of the RNG(strange its never done that before) or because the changes have changed when the astronomer is encountered?--Feldhorn 23:56, 11 April 2007 (CDT)
- RNG screwage, plain and simple. Sure, the chances of that happening are about 3% (given a 3:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2 encounter ratio; actually will be a bit lower once you factor in the Adventure Queue), but with the RNG, anything is possible. --Quietust (t|c) 00:00, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I always thought The Astronomer was a euphemism, in that astronomers always look up into the sky. Like a certain appendage I could name.--Luftwaffle 05:30, 13 August 2007 (CDT)
astronomer changed
Astronomer has changed as of rollover of Feb 11th, requesting information on new versions. (unsigned comment by User:Dark devin)
It's discussed in the Feb 11th radio show, around 1h14 mins in the stargazer version. Old behaviour was two different astronomers, one of which had a 50% chance of being rejected (done in order to compensate for the switch from 6 to 9 constellations). New behaviour is two identical astronomers, both with a 25% chance of being rejected, so that odor extraction & champagne poppers work.--ArgghFW 05:30, 12 February 2008 (CST)
Male to Female mappings
These are my best guesses for the mappings from Male->Female, based on item drop and ML:
Trouser Snake -> Box
Skinflute -> Camel's Toe
Family Jewels -> Bush
Burrowing Bishop -> Axe Wound
Junk -> Flange
One-eyed Willie -> Muff
Pork Sword -> Beaver
Twig and Berries -> Honey Pot
Hooded Warrior -> Little Man in the Canoe

Rare non-combat encounter?
Currently in the female side of the Hole in the Sky. Just had a strange experience -- unfortunately I didn't think of the wiki until after I'd reflexively clicked through it. It was something about the axe wound cracking open, accompanied by what looked like an animated GIF (http://images.kingdomofloathing.com/adventureimages/crack.gif). Afterward, it ejected me to the main plains. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this before? - Sanmei
- sign your posts. Also, this is Rumble On, which has nothing to do with the Hole, and is detailed elsewhere on the wiki.--Bob452 19:49, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Apologies. It's the first I've heard of it and the GIF resembled the Axe Wound, so I thought they were related. - Sanmei
- No need to apolegize for not seeing it before, it's new today. See Rumble On and it's talk page which Bob452 should have linked you to. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:21, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
