Talk:The Island Barracks

From A KoL Wiki

The map is inaccurate in one crucial detail -- the hacienda keys are not in the same location every time. --Baltar 08:43, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Clues to Keys

Seems each area has the ability to contain a hacienda key, the clues found elsewhere point to which area the keys are located in, based on an item that is in the wrong place, for instance this ascension I had a pepper mill in the chessboard and a crowbar in the fridge, pointing to the dinning room table and the crates, probably need a chart for each clue item and what it corresponds to. --Uzziah 17:37, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

The type of mariachi is possibly tied to the area they are found in. I got a Sleepy mariachi when I found him in his bed for instance. The exact wording when you receive a key clue is "You carefully search the area, but don't manage to find a key to Lopez's hacienda. You do find a <object>, however, which strikes you as oddly out of place considering how fastidiously tidy these bandits seem to be. Hmm." --Nossidge 18:10, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

I've added my results for a recent accordion thief nemesis quest. It's worth noting that after Lopez was defeated, the four locations with hacienda keys and clues were empty, but I found items at the six fight locations after Lopez was defeated.--Foggy 03:35, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Added results from most recent two AT runs.--Foggy 14:32, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Can't find fifth key (oops)

I have gone to every location in the barracks at least twice, and I still only have four keys. I'm almost 100% sure I've beaten the mariachi in each location except for one, which starts as an alert mariachi. Am I supposed to somehow beat him? I tried 5 times with +140% combat init and he still instakills me. Or is the key with one of the other ones? Mikachu 13:43, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

So of course I figured out now you can pickpocket it from any mariachi anywhere right after posting that :). Mikachu 13:49, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Hypotheses:

- Each area has 1 fight, 1 item, and 1 key or clue
- 4 keys and 2 clues

These hypotheses are matched by my own experience and by the result and result2 columns in Nossidge's table, above. Any counterexamples yet?

Clues Table

Also, from comments and my own data, here's a start at a table of hints. My hints are marked with a * (and I did indeed find a key in the corresponding location), the others are from what I've read on this wiki (including random other pages).

The ones not from Nossidge's table (and therefore unclear whether the key matches) have a '?' and are just my guess. You are more than welcome to fill in and correct.

I can confirm a few more here...what's weird is that it seems like only the left-hand side locations are clued, except for the Bedroom one.--Foggy 14:39, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Confirmed sterno hint -> dining room sideboard key.

..You do find a dirty sock, however, which strikes you as oddly out of place.. (etc.) --> Dressers.

Arrgh

I am stuck in the following situation: I have one hacienda key. I wandered around the island barracks, found one key and had some fights. NOW every time I click on the barracks I instantly get an alert mariachi who kills me instantly.

I had a moxie of 370 or so (buffed) so I don't know what else I can do. Will the mariachi go away in a few days? Can I ever get the drop on him to try and kill him before he kills me?

Help! --Jooga 04:15, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

  • an errant cube of chalk from the pool table.>> Pool Table >> found Key --MadonKody 00:24, 3 April 2012 (CEST)
    • According to this anecdote, the "errant cube of chalk from the pool table" is part of the regular adventure text, and not a clue. --Philmasterplus (talk) 05:20, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
