Talk:The Master Of Thieves

From A KoL Wiki

Are you 100% sure that it's

"You're fighting The Master of Thieves"

as opposed to

"You're fighting the Master of Thieves"? --Someone Else 17:33, 24 July 2006 (CDT)

Well the ManWithThePan said "Encounter: The Master Of Thieves" --The Retired Hermit 23:19, 24 July 2006 (CDT)

"The Master of Thieves" is correct. --Starn 09:34, 23 August 2006 (CDT)

Picture confirmed from forum post. Added "He tries to stab you with his short sword, but you make short work of dodging." --The Retired Hermit 15:27, 23 August 2006 (CDT)

Yes, just got this one, it's definately The Master of Thieves. Also, I got 27 substat, but it's a Myst day. I'm level 10 right now. It has less than 103 hit points as that's how much damage I did, and I had a serpentine sword equipped so it was +10ML --Keith 02:11, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

Got this one late yesterday (not a stat day) as a pastamancer. No ML, No +/- exp items. It was in an older version of mafia, so I actually spent the first two turns idle, but I killed him (level 25) in one hit.

You acquire an item: Platinum Yendorian Express Card

You gain 7 Muscleboundness
You gain 6 Wizardliness
You gain 4 Chutzpah

I just beat this monster. I don't know what info you guys want, but I've got screenshots of my profile & the combat if you do want anything. I'll watch this page. --Jatopian 19:28, 4 February 2008 (CST)

Updating the Image

How the heck do you update the image?

I've got the actual "The Master Of Thieves" image right here.

Ain't he cute?

Yay ultra-rare!

--Enemy Lasagna 19:09, 25 July 2008 (CDT)

  • Lucky lucky. And the image can be updated in the monster's metadata (there should be a box of data in the upper-right corner of the page, with an edit metadata link). I've already updated the image for you. Also, note that the "summary" box on the image upload thing will actually place that text in the image's wiki page. That's not particularly obvious, but thought I'd point out that it's not like the "summary" for a normal wiki edit. For what should be placed there, see {{kolimage}}. --Flargen 19:14, 25 July 2008 (CDT)

Thanks!

--Enemy Lasagna 19:15, 25 July 2008 (CDT)

I just beat him today. I'll put in the attack messages he got on me -

You viciously bludgeon him, dealing 25 (+2) (+2) (+2) damage. BAM! POW! ZAP! KAPOW! BARF!

The Master of Thieves hits! The Master of Thieves hits! Your purse feels lighter... Ooh! Argh! Ouch! Eek! Ugh! You lose 21 hit points. (sleaze damage)

You give your opponent a nasty case of club elbow. By which I mean you club his elbow for 28 (+2) (+2) (+2) damage. SPLAT! BARF! KAPOW! SMACK! SOCKO! SMACK!

The Master of Thieves zaps a platinum wand! The bolt of fire hits you! You're on fire! A scroll labeled FOOBIE BLETCH catches fire and burns! A puce potion boils and explodes! Ow! Eek! Ugh! Ow! Ooh! You lose 21 hit points. (hot damage)

I play NetHack and I think the Discworld reference is wrong- in NetHack, the actual lair of the Master of Thieves is called The Shades. It (and the Tourist) is a reference to Discworld, so KoL is just referencing NetHack which is referencing Discworld. I'm going to remove it.--MehPlusRawr 00:49, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Agreed, but I added an explicit mention of where Nethack is drawing inspiration from in this case. This at least forestalls folk adding it back incorrectly.  :) --Starwed 06:06, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Okay, good solution. Thanks for the help.--MehPlusRawr 00:02, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Fought him, pretty cool (especially since, as above, I'm a hacker and a tourist was my first ascension.) Maybe people want my substat gain?

You gain 4 Muscleboundness. You gain 11 Magicalness. You gain 8 Sarcasm.

When he got the jump on me, the following was between his description and the regular combat buttons "The Master of Thieves drinks a smoky potion! The Master of Thieves rises up, through the ceiling! Call a smoky potion - ". At the end was a working text entry box, but no button to submit the text. Trying to enter a number activated my Combat Action Bar, though. Stat gains in a BIG! ascension, in Hardcore: You gain 12 Strengthliness. You gain 32 Enchantedness. You gain 13 Roguishness. --Dkohler (talk) 22:29, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
