Refrences

While yes d20's and other dice rolling aspects are best known from their use in D&D, can we distinctly credit D&D with the creation of the d20's and dice rolling system? I think not. And I think that D&D specificly shouldn't be part of the reference and just open-ended Random Number Generators be given the credit.

I'd like to get contradicted here then changing the article and haveing it done in the edit history so feel free to explain to me why D&D is the mother of all dice rolling and RNGing before I make the refrence a little less specific. --Zafoquat 15:10, 29 August 2007 (CDT)

It did not create the #D# system, and there is no reason for it to imply that it did. It would be better to say "2D20, the name of The RNG's familiar, is a reference to many RPGs, such as Dungeons and Dragons, in which rolling "2D20" would mean to roll a twenty-sided die twice." The only reason that D&D should be referenced is to provide an example of an RPG which many people know of which uses the standard #D# notation for dice rolls. --Aetuneo 11:30, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

To be cursed or blessed

Ive noticed a few things that seem to get responses from the RNG

ONE He gets tipped off. I was talking about my good luck with the rng in veteran. Then he logged on and joined veteran to respond to something specific that was said before he logged on. This is a copy of who was in veteran

before: cheesypuff, Nassive, Joeisme, BlackMagus, Celebmacil, Zafoquat, WelcomeToEarth, BongBob, King Arthur, crimsonblind, DJBling, Lucky Strike, Werebear, SuperChum, xxarMAGEddonxx, MOOnShinE, greenflapper, chatbot, Strobegopher, mule1, JimmyJunk, Bungee, Ms_Noodle, angelrider, MiniMex, Jicken Wings, Tatterwasp, DTK, InSinYou8, MALedicTis, Abendigo (31 total)

after: cheesypuff, Nassive, Joeisme, BlackMagus, Celebmacil, Zafoquat, WelcomeToEarth, BongBob, King Arthur, crimsonblind, DJBling, Lucky Strike, The RNG, Werebear, SuperChum, xxarMAGEddonxx, MOOnShinE, greenflapper, chatbot, Strobegopher, mule1, JimmyJunk, Bungee, Ms_Noodle, angelrider, MiniMex, Jicken Wings, Tatterwasp, DTK, InSinYou8, MALedicTis, Abendigo (32 total)

My bets on werebear =P

TWO This account might be operated by more then one person. But it is definetly not a bot. That means human engineering works =). For instance, in veteran i was explaining to a person who was confused about what a RNG was, and why the fact that there was an RNG NPC was funny. Them being newbish on this topic earned them some slack with whoever was operating the RNG at the time and a blessing right after i got to the part where i explained the curses and blessing. Almost as if to punctuate my lesson with an example =)

Random Info

Dunno if its something worth putting on the page - The RNG has candy hearts permed - I got a yellow one that said "Curse You" after getting the curse from the RNG. --Grimdel June 8, 2007 - 14:41 (PST)

  • Just so you know, you can get candy hearts without casting the skill - you can buy them in the Mall, trade with another player, receive them via K-mail, or have somebody else "send" one to you (complete with a message), either intact or as a candygram. Or, if you're Jick, you can create them out of thin air just like any other item in the database. --Quietust (t|c) 17:03, 8 June 2007 (CDT)
  • The RNG collects Stuffed Angry Cows, 8-Balls, and Goats, as per its display case.---Taelios 09:22, 17 June 2007 (CDT)

PVP Ranking...?

Should it be noted that at any given time, he has a set PVP ranking? As of now, it's 113, but it might change sometimes. Does the rng actually participate in pvp, then? --HikaruYami 17:25, 12 October 2007 (CDT)

I came across the RNG whilst randomly picking PVP fights today - I won 4-3, haven't noticed any response from it yet. The profile page doesn't seem to indicate that it actually participates in PVP, but the fact that I actually had a quantifiable percentage difference in pretty flowers picked (52200%) indicates that it must have done something at some point. It had a fame of 23, even though its profile indicated a PVP Fame and Winningness of 0. How curious. --Raffers1 16:07, 9 October 2012 (CEST)

Weirdness

That jerk added himself to my friends list (unless I did it so long ago I had forgotten), and had been TPing, Bricking and Pieing me the other day. Also telling me "things can change" and other weirdness, but no bless/curse.--Plater (t|c) 07:49, 28 February 2008 (CST)

Static Info

It also seemed weird to me that every time I reloaded The RNG's profile I got the same "Turns Played" and "Last Login" info. I was more surprised though when I saw that its last login was 4 days ago. If it is an NPC, shouldn't it log in every once in a while, or maybe even stay logged in all the time?--Psycomaniac (#277160) 09:36, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

  • Oh, and some wild guess... Could some of these numbers point the direction for some unsolved game mechanics?--Psycomaniac (#277160) 09:40, 28 March 2008 (CDT)
  • The RNG is a dirty dirty whore that I hope dies, and that is all anyone really needs to know. Other then yes, it sometimes "logs in" and interacts with players in chat. --Plater (t|c) 09:53, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

Gifts from The RNG

Aw, that was nice, The RNG just sent me a package via kmail after I politely requested an item from the RNG in chat. Of course, I have no idea what's actually in the package, since I can't open it in hardcore.

Ask and ye shall receive.

Sort of.
You acquire an item: plain brown wrapper

not a bot?

  • thinking it was a bot, i pmed it with "i love you, mr rng." i got back "Chinko arimasu ka?" which, a little googling tells me, is "a/s/l" in japanese. oh dear. is this riff? --Evilkolbot 10:42, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

I also witnessed similar behavior in the past, but I'm pretty sure it's just a bot. Mainly because he sounds like some sort of ELIZA most of the time he speaks in chat. Nevertheless it would be possible for one of the admins to log into the RNG-Account from time to time. So when you're going on a hot date with Riff tell us some details later... ;) --Yatsufusa 12:59, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

It's likely an NPC account that admins and select players have access to.--P4n1q 21:04, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
