Talk:The Vitus Virus

From A KoL Wiki

I would warrant that this effect increases your chance of fumbling. It doesn't change the damage you deal or any of your stats - I was using a chelonian morningstar when I had it, and saw no effects when compared to the combats around it. --RavenBlack 08:26, 21 August 2007 (CDT)

This isn't exactly exhaustive spading, but here's my $.02. It appears to me that the dancing references are parallel to the dancing of the Gravy Fairies. After I got this effect, I spent five adventures in the lab and in almost every battle, all the items that could drop did.

I then spent 5 additional adventures at the Airship with the following results:

1 - Protagonist - dropped: hair gel, phonics down
2 - Quiet Healer - dropped: scroll of drastic healing
3 - Protagonist - dropped: hair gel, phonics down
4 - Irritating Series of Random Encounters - dropped: soft green echo eyedrop antidote, tiny house, cocoa eggshell fragment
5 - Non-combat: Penultimate Fantasy chest

It's worth noting that, aside from Envy, I had no item drop bonuses. My familiar was the potato. --CrimsonMirage 08:45, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

"You're not a very effective fighter right now, can't focus your thoughts, and you look ridiculous." This sounds to me like it must be reducing your muscle (fighter), myst (thoughts), and moxie (appearance)? That much of it should be really easy to tell. Then it seems reasonable that dancing means item drop percentage increase. Bakapyrite 12:18, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

  • It's not -stats. I just stripped my character and all my stats are black. --Shoptroll 12:43, 17 November 2007 (CST)

Ok, since the effect text mentions dancing, that would imply +item drops. So I took my character to the beanbat chamber for 10 rounds. I did try to track fumbles as well. Character was attacking with ____ of fury the entire time. Effects worth noting: envy, greed (item drop) and Eye of Stoat (fumble chance). Familiar was a Barrrnacle.

#	Combat?	Rounds	Fumbles	Item Drop?
1	Batigue
2	Beanbat	2	1	enchanted bean
3	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
4	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
5	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
6	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
7	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
8	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
9	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean
10	Beanbat	1	0	enchanted bean

According to the Beanbat page, ~51.3% drop rate on Beans. Envy + Greed yields +15% item drop. So 51.3 * 1.15 = 58.995. So I'm getting a good boost in item drops unless my math and assumptions are wrong. --Shoptroll 13:06, 17 November 2007 (CST)

It definitely doesn't make every monster drop every item it carries, I was farming for picnic baskets for the tower, and there were spiders that were not dropping them. Definitely an item drop boost though, as I was getting more than I expected. I didn't record exact figures though. I'll do that next run, if I remember. --AtroPhied 14:00, 4 March 2008 (CST)

Well, not sure what the bad side effect would be, but the good news is that it returns MP to you based on damage done. Tried it while flyering the laboratory (don't ask) and was getting MP in exchange for HP. (Edit - Move to the Hole in the Sky, and no MP return on getting hit. Curious) The item drop thing isn't it, to confirm atrophied above. --Blastphemist 12:11, 22 May 2008 (CDT)

  • Scientists in the Knob laboratory have a special seltzer attack that can restore your MP. Check your logs; you might've been hit by this. --Pastangum 14:47, 27 July 2008 (CDT)

In 9 adventures in the beanbat chamber with what I hope is -100% item drops, I got 4 beans. -100% scuba gear, -75% temporary blindness (assuming that's accurate), +15% envy-greed, +5% ballroom quartet, +5% roboduck, +50% 20lb fairy. --Friederike 14:20, 16 June 2008 (CDT)

Same setup, without the effect: 0/100 beans. Looks like a substantial item drop bonus. --Friederike 08:06, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

Comment from Kaerius posted on article page: "probably +itemdrop, both 558% and 573% itemdrop + this gave 6 drops from hobo bosses" --Quietust (t|c) 15:25, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
