Talk:Thrust-Smack
Because it says 'if it connects', does this mean it has less chance to hit? Has anyone done any testing on it or anything?
Unless you also have Eye of the Stoat, Thrust-Smack has the same chances of missing as any other weapon-strike. And when you're fighting the Naughty Sorceress, not even that skill guarantees a hit. -- Cyferpunk 12:26 19 Sep 2005, (Eastern Daylight Time)
Is damage done by this spell spell damage or melee damage? Lord Sonny 23:55, 27 April 2006 (CDT)
- What part of "You attack, and do double your normal melee damage if you connect" is unclear on this being melee damage?--Veistran 02:26, 27 May 2006 (CDT)
NS 13 Changes
This skill has definitely been changed: It no longer multiplies melee damage! I have both of the claw skills, which give +7 melee damage combined. I was a Disco Bandit at the time. When I was hitting fluffy bunnies unarmed with a muscle of 1 and the Annoy-o-Tron 5k set to 4, I was doing 8 damage constantly (when I managed to hit).
However, when I used Thrust-Smack, over a 20-turn period, I was always doing 9 damage. No melee damage was multiplied. Lunging Thrust-Smack returned similar results - always 10 damage.
So, I equipped a corn holder in my main weapon slot and started to try this out again for 40 more turns. Now I was doing between 9-11 damage by just attacking. When using Thrust-Smack, I did 11, 13, or 15 damage. Using Lunging Thrust-Smack, I always did either 13, 16, or 19 damage.
With no weapon, TS was giving 2 more points of damage (x2), and LTS was giving 3 more points of damage (x3). The corn holder, being a 20 power weapon, would give a bonus of 2, 3, or 4 damage. Multiplying by 2 gives 4, 6, or 8 damage, the same as in the observed results. Multiplying by 3 gives 6, 9, or 12 damage, again, the same as in the results.
Note that the skill may work differently for muscle classes, or just the Seal Clubber class. More results are needed to confirm the change.--GoldS 03:35, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
- So, to clarify, the skill no longer multiplies bonus melee damage, and both Claw skills count as bonus, not base, damage. The next thing to check is whether the damage due to your Muscle exceeding the enemy's Defense is or is not multiplied any more. --Jonrock 04:29, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
IT no longer doubles damage either. I'm getting roughly 40 extra damage while hitting with 80 unbuffed damage for about 120 buffed damage. I'm a level 10 seal clubber. karate kid x 09:14, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
I'd say its less damage but higher chance to it: did 55 with this and 82 in normal hit. Also, with 96 muscle had some problems hiting a Antique Armor, but with 102, had no problem. --Fernando Bono 22:33, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
Query on the 2x damage
Please don't flame me out for this. After all, it IS a discussion page! :P
Anyway, I have been playing KOL for about a year, and in that time I've never noticed anything close to 2x damage for a successful thrust smack, unless I have other modifiers I am unaware of. For example, fighting the Mobile Armoured Sweat Lodge, I hit twice normally (with no crit either time), for 50 and 51 physical damage. I then used a TS and hit for 59 Physical damage, then did another one and hit for 60 Physical damage. And i can replicate this consistently with any monster i try. Now, i KNOW that the description always has said it'll do double damage if it connects, but i've never noticed that (even prior to NS13) and it has always bugged me. So I finally have started the discussion on the Wiki page hoping someone else can support or refute - i just don't think it's right...

- It actually functions exactly as it claims to: it doubles the damage dealt by your weapon. But if you look at the damage formula, you can see that there are other sources of damage on a successful attack, most notably from outmuscling your opponent and having +melee damage modifiers. (The latter used to get multiplied as well, but hasn't since NS13.) For more information, see the page Weapon Damage. --Starwed 03:12, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
Well, it doubles the damage dealt that is a result of your weapon's power. To a layman, all damage dealt in an attack is dealt by the weapon, even though that damage may be modified by muscle or other factors. It seems it would be much simpler to say that Thrust Smack effectively doubles the power of your weapon. That way it wouldn't confuse people who don't have the damage formula memorized, or even know of it's existence. Really the in-game description is misleading too, but thats another matter. Either way, wording it this way avoids bogging things down with semantics. -RogerMexico

I'm pretty sure the "all in the mind" is also a reference to Parappa the Rapper, the game that UJL is a spiritual sequel to. In that one, during the karate lesson, Chop Chop Master Onion also uses the "kick, punch, it's all in the mind" line. Jimfromtx (talk) 11:43, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
