Talk:Trendy

From A KoL Wiki

For too old familiars, I'm not seeing the message on the page. I'm seeing "That familiar is way too outmoded." Do different players get different messages? Something else? We should probably have the schedule of old stuff on the wiki. Any objections to just copying the formatting?

  • The message currently shown is what was there originally. It was obviously placeholder text that they had forgotten to get rid of before release time. Sounds like they've replaced it now. --Flargen 20:24, 17 November 2011 (CET)

Any signs of additional perks like skills, trophies or items? I haven't noticed any new encounters or items so far(I've gotten as far as the airship in hardcore), and I'm a little hard pressed to imagine any trophy ideas particular to this sort of run. Not that there's anything wrong with extra karma and a butterfly curio. --Noskilz 04:32, 18 November 2011 (CET)

  • Just a thought, maybe if you have something that will be on the restricted list when the new month starts there is some type of trophy? I am holding off on this run for a while so I won't be able to check when it happens here in December. --Chunky_boo 05:58, 18 November 2011 (CET)
    • One of my multis equipped a wheel, which is very old stuff, and then reported it as a bug. I got back a "We'll fix it". In the meantime, I'm keeping it equipped. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 07:46, 18 November 2011 (CET)
    • On the first day of my trendy run, my Snow Angel was usable, but on the second it wasn't. Whether that was due to hitting the unfashionable window or an oversight that slipped past, I don't know. I checked in at the Trophy Hut regularly, but nothing unexpected turned up during my trendy run.--Noskilz 00:40, 22 November 2011 (CET)

Has anyone gone straight to their next ascension without trying to retrieve anything from Hangk's or their display case? The only trophy idea I can think of is never touching anything unfashionable for an entire lifetime - but with the holidays approaching, it'll probably be several weeks before I can check the notion myself. I've already pulled equipment, so even if the timing was better, it's too late for me this run. --Noskilz 03:36, 23 November 2011 (CET)

It's not quite accurate to say that the items just can't be used. It's not even possible to get them out of Hangk's. Yunatwilight 21:06, 21 November 2011 (CET)

If you've consumed numerous Astral Mushrooms in the past, you are still subject to flashbacks, although I have not yet tested to see if the drops still work. --Reimero 14:34, 22 November 2011 (CET)

  • I bet they wouldn't, because the code to stop you won't consider how you got them. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 01:23, 23 November 2011 (CET)
    • Last I heard, CDM had said that trendy doesn't apply to things already in your inventory. Only to things like Hagnk's, closet, etc. So you can't pull a munchies pill, but should you flashback and get one, then it's there in your inventory and you can use it. Similarly, if you adventure with a tiny costume wardrobe on your familiar, then it's entirely possible it will turn into, say, a sandworm and drop an agua de vida. The agua can be used normally. --Flargen 02:14, 23 November 2011 (CET)
      • Yeah, that's probably correct. Wheel is on the schedule now, but I can unequip and re-equip it with no problems. This strikes me as a particularly lazy challenge. Anyone who can't win in ronin, is going to have a huge easy button called "the mall" when they get to the NS. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:45, 23 November 2011 (CET)

It seems one can't even partake in (old?) events. Today's Feast of Boris didn't have any increasing effect on fullness while giving the message already present on the Feast of Boris page. --Beliar Lightbearer 06:03, 24 November 2011 (CET)

Perhaps all holidays are untrendy/uncool. That would be a real conflict of interest with crimbo. Guess we'll have to see tomorrow on dependence day what happens.-- Clarinet

Anybody try buying the current IotM while in a trendy run? That seems trendy. --Peterlorre

  • Having to buy an item of the month seems like an unlikely trophy criteria. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:29, 14 December 2011 (CET)

Hardcore irrelevant?

A recent edit makes the article say that the restrictions make little difference to hardcore play. Though this will probably be the case if you're casual enough (like me, though I have yet to even try Trendy in any form); I get the impression from discussion in places like the gameplay forum that lack of access to powerful familiars, bookshelf books, pumpkins and very importantly the fax machine does make a significant difference to speedy play. What do you think, should the article say Trendy doesn't really make a difference in hardcore? I suspect not, but would rather someone else removed it since I don't really know the subject well. --Notsupposedtobehere 17:57, 14 January 2012 (CET)

I agree with you, and comments/strategy statements should not be in the "Restrictions" section of the page anyway. So I'll remove that statement. --Prestige 06:33, 16 January 2012 (CET)

Perming bug resolved?

I was able to perm Stringozzi Serpent following a HC-Trendy run and so removed the bug tag below from the main page.

{{bug|December 25: It seems to be impossible to perm untrendy skills after a Trendy run. Bug has been reported}}
