Speculation

Important stuff: This is the important stuff that I took from the podcast.

  • CDM DID type during the podcast
  • can be gotten on first day
  • Easy to get
  • pop culture ref
  • Doesnt involve anything released after NS13

Okay, so a pop culture ref probably involving typing and CAN BE GOTTEN ON THE FIRST DAY. not summoning chamber. probably not notes, as notes was already used with a pop culture reference for a trophy before. Not a mall search, as that's not available on the first day. Possibly PvP? Outfit name? Familiar name? (The mosquito is available within 80 adventures, right?) Maybe a chat command? Profile and graffiti wall are also plausible. I'm personally think there's a big chance it involves graffiti wall... --Macoronikevin 00:32, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Could I delete all the Ideas To Be Tried or In Progress that are not "easy to get" or doable on a first day? --Macoronikevin 00:39, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Tried placing 11 sets of 11 times in the closet. Taking 11 sets of 11 items out of the closet. --Helot 18:44, 23 January 2009 (UTC) helot

IIRC, a recent Jick show mentioned that #68 has been around since NS13 rollout. Wouldn't that rule out raffle familiars, Hobopolis, black cat, etc.? --Pastangum

It occurred to me that TPTB wouldn't have the typed text be visible to other players, lest it make for easy spoilage. That rules out almost every "typed in" spot in the Kingdom. I'm going to work on the notes section of the quest log tonight. I'll update later. --James111222 11:52, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I remember something from the forums about Jick saying that trophy 68 was "in the same league as other trophies" and "just the sort of thing that we'd do". In other news, there are currently 10 state-based trophies, maybe trophy 68 makes 11. Just a few thoughts.--Dudeathome 17:40, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm surprised that no one has tried this, but what about using a meatsmithing guide a large amount of times? It is very easy to obtain, can easily be obtained by a new account, and is so useless that it can be easily overlooked. --Grogum the Violent Activist 22:41, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Uselessness

It's confirmed that there are no other trophies left not find except the 68 and for #68 there's a bunch of hints that strike out a lot from this list. So... should we shorten it or what? --Hrag 16:36, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Care to link to those hints? I'm guessing you found them on the forum, but "loathing" describes my feelings for that place. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 23:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

sure
  • it was rolled out with NS13.
  • it's not the kind of thing you can be "close to getting" (no counter in database)
  • it's a pop-culture reference
  • it's easy to do (CDMoyer was qualifying for it on radio in a minute)
  • however, can be screwed up (CDMoyer screwed it up when tried on the radio but confirmed afterwards that it actually was his mistake rather than trophy not working)
  • "you have to use some part of the interface and do something" (CDMoyer quote)
  • a new account can get it on their first day
  • a player in Hardcore or BadMoon can get it
  • it doesn't have to do with numbers 11, 23 or 37
  • the number of the trophy itself (#68 ) doesn't have to do with anything
  • HotStuff wants to give a clue, but not until they add more trophies to the game
--Hrag 16:07, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

From the Feb 16 2009 radio show: Q: Game of 20 questions for trophy 68? J: I won't promise. Q: Qualifiable from inventory? J: Not answering Q: Gotten through adventure? J: Not answering Q: Gettable in HC/BM? J: yes (jokes) Q: Content that came with NS13? J: It was rolled with that, but not saying more Q: New account get it on first day? J: Yes Q: Special numbers? J: No (Jokes) Q: Less than 3 adventures? J: No answer Q: Will you spoil it? J: No Q: Nigerian scam? J: Yes Q: Is it smart enough to find itself without spoilers?

What's really important here?

Q: Gettable in HC/BM? J: yes

Q: New account get it on first day? J: Yes

I'm posting that one to the front page.--Istanbul 07:02, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

just as a tag on.. are we sure that jick had the original 80 day adventure in mind? a new player could easily be helped to 200+ adventures with the right foodstuffs and booze from friends which would significantly raise his level/available areas. not to mention that they could also supply him/her with items that a regular newbie would not have. imo, it's too vague to trust. the same goes for the hardcore comment since you can drop it at any point and return all your previously stored items. --Talq 07:10, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Quote from a Podcast recorded January 27, 2009: "CDMoyer: Yeah, good luck! I'm surprised no one has gotten (Trophy #68). I wonder if it's broken? That would be amusing. This is exciting, listening to me click on my computer. I'm clicking on a certain place in the game, that I'm not going to reveal, then I'm going to do an action, which I can't reveal." This implies that it can be gotten without setting up anything and also that it can be gotten instantly. In response to Hrag's useful suggestion. I propose we list all the facts we know about Trophy #68 on the front page, such as Isty's edit. Then we take out every item that contradicts those facts and copy them to a separate section on this discussion. For both posterity and in case any "facts" turn out to be wrong. --Urutsini 08:47, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

"Clicking on a certain place in the game" sounds to me a bit like the hidden book in the library. I just did view source on a whole bunch of pages (non-adventure pages) without finding anything. But we know the maps change throught the game, and I'm no where near a level 1 view of the kingdom. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 22:39, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

To me it sounds as if you need to enter a phrase or donate meat to one of those statues in The Hall of The Legends of The Times of Old. I'm pretty sure that it is possible to get there on your first day...--Mrfred 17:16, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't think so, the Daily Dungeon would be pretty tough for a new account on the first day. --Almightysapling 05:11, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Pardon my ignorance, but what does the "Q: Nigerian Scam? A: Yes" part mean? --Weasel Measle 18:30, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

The Nigerian Scam, also called a "419" after the relevant section of Nigerian law, is a plea to assist in a money laundering scheme. Mrs SCAMMER, widow of the late DICTATOR in THIRD-WORLD NATION, is in danger of losing MANY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. You can help by wiring some bribe money and your bank account details so that the poor widow can smuggle the money out, and for your effort you will get SUBSTANTIAL reward. Many versions of the scam have odd capitalization. All try to get you to give up some money now to help with an illegal activity for which you will get some of the proceeds. Many are personalized. Before internet cafes became popular in Nigeria, the scam used actual posted letters. The FBI has a special group that invstigates them and requests you report the scam to them: http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/fraudschemes.htm#nigerian --Club (#66669) (Talk) 22:17, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Okay, thanks, but I meant: what's its significance to KoL and what might it be to this trophy particularly? Based on all the other hints, it seems like this is something quick & easy like naming a custom outfit. Figuring out the exact text is going to be non-trivial. --Weasel Measle

Do people have any reason to think the Nigerian Scam is something other than a joke? Who asked the question and what was that person thinking about? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 00:07, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

has anyone tried fooling around with vampire hearts yet? they seem to be pretty early in the game and possibly an easy pop-culture reference with "buffy the vampire slayer" --Talq 15:40, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Extensively, before the Trohpy Spading page was created. See here. There might be more to try with them, though. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:07, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

ah, i c... still seems like there is a bit to test other than quantity.. also, I find it highly suspect that vampire bats also drop vampire hearts.. maybe you have to kill 100 of each of the vampire monsters? also, you can get leprechaun pretty early if you know what you're doing, so i wouldn't rule out the possibility that jick might have used the chant from the cartoon somewhere (or atleast part of it). just some various thoughts. --Talq 13:58, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry if this had been done a while ago, but would it be possible that it requires you to send a Hermit item to a special (NPC) account? I can't think of any pop culture reference that would fit with this, but it might be worth a try. --Makkotah 6:02, 22 April 2009.

What about URL editing, or browsing the help file? Every single help file loads a date/time javascript file but never uses it. Old code, or secret? --Qwertyuiopas 02:17, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Are we even sure it includes some form of "typing" or keyboard interaction? nowhere in the original structure did i see him say that he was typing anything.. just that he was "clicking" which usually refers to a mouse gesture.. and an action sounds like whatever he is doing either initiates a reaction or uses an adventure. Everyone keeps trying to look at some secret area, but i think we should just stop everything and go back to basics. afterall, if you want to hide something, the best place is to hide it right out in the open. --Talq 07:10, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

  • We don't know it is "typing". The quote above is "I'm clicking on a certain place in the game, that I'm not going to reveal, then I'm going to do an action, which I can't reveal." So, what's "do an action"? Possibly typing. I've gone thought the source HTML of a bunch of area pages looking for library-staircase type hidden actions, but I haven't found any. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:53, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup

Will a mod please give the go ahead to clear out all the ideas on the main page that are clearly not fitting with the given clues. I'm talking things like "Support the Habit" and the like. --Almightysapling 05:09, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Chat Macros and Trophy #68?

I'm relatively new here to these forums, so bear with me if this is something that's been tried already.

Could Trophy #68 have something to do with the Chat Macros? While regular chat may be visible, 'do'ing something through a chat macro would not be visible. You would just have to Manage your Chat Macros from the accounts page and program it to do the correct thing. The question would be, what are you trying to 'do' through a chat macro. How is it tied to a pop-culture reference? Could it seriously be tied to a Nigerian scam? Is it another Zork reference, or WOW, or (you fill in the blank)?

What are some common Chat Macros instructions that are used in KOL? I figured out 'use', 'cook', and 'eat', but 'get' and 'do' did not seem to have any effect, unless I am trying to get it to 'do' the wrong thing.

Also, it seems a Chat Macro would be an easy thing to potentially screw up.

--KingSaxomo 09:16, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Using macros to do anything other than chat is newer than NS13 rollout, though. The original chat macros were just shortcuts for saying something. They get big use in /trade by people who are looking to buy stuff. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 19:04, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

But did they ever mention if it had anything to do with post-NS13 content? They could have simply added the trophy after NS13 for some in-joke or other. --Qwertyuiopas 23:30, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Typing involved

I know this is probably going a bit deep here, but just out of curiosity: Just how much typing are we talking about here. Someone said that typing could be heard in the background, are we talking 2 or 3 keystrokes or a few words or possibly a long sentence? I haven't had a chance to listen to the radio show, so was there anything to glean from the amount of typing that went on? --Phelyan 14:20, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Altar of Literacy

I have started a new multi to spade a bit at the Altar of Literacy.

Apparently, Jick has stated that if you have proved your literacy, the trophy becomes unavailable. This would suggest to me that you have to type something here to get the trophy. This fits with the other list of requirements as far as I know.

First of all, has anyone proven their literacy in the first try? It always seems to reject something I do on the first try and I have to do it agian. I didn't try this on purpose so I could try out a few other things.

I have tried: Typing "Capitalization and punctuation count!" in the oath dialog box. (with "Black" in the bottom box) Typing "Brown." "White." "Blue." and "Chestnut" in the riddle dialog box. (with "I have read..." Typing "It's ridiculous. It's not even funny." in the upper box and "In a row?!" in the lower one.

I'm going to keep my multi, Pants Annahat (Level 1 Accordion Thief, #1954422) in Day 1, done-nothing condition for spading purposes. Any ideas, post them here and I'll try them out. --Av8r1 10:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Making the trophy only available to those who haven't yet proven their literacy seems rather unlikely to me, it's probably just Jick joking and trying to throw people off =) --Lordebon 11:13, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
When he said that, on the most recent radio show, it was pretty clearly a joke. They're not going to make a trophy that 99% of the player base can never get. --Harrakan 11:15, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

...except, you know, the pantsless trophy. --Sirjeffreyofvistledorf 13:26, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

  • I'm going to have to disagree with you there. Any player could have earned the pantsless trophy. The big complaint is that there has never been a second chance to earn it. No one is ever getting a chance at This Lousy Trophy again, but no one complains about that. It's just a double standard people have. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:46, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
