Talk:Urge to Stare at Your Hands

From A KoL Wiki

the "urge to stare at your hands" may reference the Simpsons episode where Homer gets high on marijuana, and him and Otto end up staring at their hands and wondering why their fingers don't fing. --Shokwave 08:10, 2 June 2006 (CDT)

  • It might also reference the episode of "Real Life" where real people got high and ended up staring at their hands for long periods of time. --LucySpace 15:39, 4 June 2006 (CDT)
    • it's just a reference (as are the quoted items) to the fact that sometinmes in altered states your hands do get really interesting. --Evilkolbot 16:27, 4 June 2006 (CDT)
      • Dude, that's what Lucyspace was saying. But with sarcasm. -- BrettDay 12:20, 5 June 2006 (CDT)
        • *blushes* where did i put my sense of humour? oh well. --Evilkolbot 12:45, 5 June 2006 (CDT)
          • Hehe! I suppose I could have put that more clearly. I was teasing Shokwave. :) --LucySpace 15:06, 5 June 2006 (CDT)
            • being way too geeky about this, isn't "real life" a show on mtv? that's how i read it, and not having seen more than two minutes in total, i assumed they had a hard drugs episode. shock tv and all that. --Evilkolbot 15:42, 5 June 2006 (CDT)
              • While I'm sure half the cast members of that show were on drugs, AFAIK, there's never been a particularly drug focused issued. I think they generally avoid showing things that'd get the cast members arrested. -- BrettDay 17:42, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
                • Oh, I didn't know that it was a TV show. Time for me to get a television, I suppose. Sorry for the confusion and for the ridiculous indent on this reply. --LucySpace 17:07, 7 June 2006 (CDT)

MST3K reference

In regards to me adding the reference: While I won't say that's the only place it's ever been used, I will say it's the only place I've ever heard phrases similar to those before. CaptainSpam 23:50, 4 December 2006 (CST)

one-hand clapping

Isn't one hand clapping a reference to some restauraunt's advertising, Mcdonald's I think?--Applejordan 22:41, 21 April 2007 (CDT)

  • No, it's FAR older than that, dating back the early 1700s (see Koan). --Quietust (t|c) 22:46, 21 April 2007 (CDT)

it's a koan, yes, from ancient Zen teachings (and i think considerably older than the 1700s). Koans were used by Zen Teachers to make their students think in different ways other than just accepting what they could physically perceive. Monsieur 20:42, 13 June 2007 (CDT)
