Talk:Vestments of the Treeslayer

Outfit Effect

Currently working on this. It appears that the outfit does appear to offer additional Damage Reduction beyond the DR of 11 inherent in the outfit.

For this spading, I'm woring with a Level 32 unascended Turtle Tamer. The character has both Skin of the Leatherback and Tao of Terrapin. For combat, I'm fighting gremlins with ML +10 (two rings of aggravate monster).

The outfit itself offers a DA of 80. Tao doubles it 160, which means we can expect 30% reduction in damage. In addition, Skin of the Leatherback will add an additional DR of 15 (half of 32-2). Thus, we can expect that if the monster damage formula is correct (see Weapon Damage), then damage will be:

.7*(.20*MA - 26) to .7*(.25*MA - 26)

To test this properly, I'm comparing damage results between: Vestments of the Treeslayer, no weapon & bark beret, bark boxers, and cardboard wakizashi. These offer the same DR (11) and same DA (80). I'm using a Hatrack with a dwarvish war helmet to get an accurate reading of Monster Attack level. As near as I can tell (and I still need to gather exact numbers for this), but

  • with the outfit, at MA 171, damage is 2-8. (At 171, damage is expected to be 5-11)
  • with the outfit, at MA 181, damage is 2-8. (At 181, damage is expected to be 7-13)
  • without the outfit, at MA 175, damage is 5-11. (At 175, damage is expected to be 6-11)
  • without the outfit, at MA 183, damage is 7-12. (At 183, damage is expected to be 7-13)

Early results do show either additional damage absorption or damage reduction. Some further research is required. --Foggy 22:17, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Some interesting results not entirely related to the Vestments, but I think I've spaded the Vestments effect.

I set my character against a Beast with 814 Eyes to try to get better results. I boosted foggy4's moxie to 817...just enough to reliably be hit by the monster, but still eliminate the Diff variable of the Monster Damage formula. (Hatrack is still equipped to confirm MA of 814).

With the formula above, I expect damage of 95-123, and with the alternative outfit listed above, I get 96-124. (This may be an issue with how the numbers are rounded.) With the actual outfit, I get damage of 92-121. This corresponds with an added DA of roughly 20 or added DR of 4-5.

In the results for the Gremlins, I tried adding Ur-Kel's to increase damage done. No dice. Even with the +70 ML, damage results was still 2-8 with the outfit, and in the 6-12 range with the alternative outfit. I've had issues before with trying to evaluate deleveling and the gremlins, and it appears that's because gremlins override the damage formula.

Given that, going back to results above shows that the effect is not added DA. (If it were, the added 20 DA would not lower damage as much as it did.) Damage results are consistent with an addition 4/5 DR.

Now to determine which.--Foggy 16:17, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

last post on the topic. Experimented with the same 814-ML creature, and changed equipment to El Vibrato hat and pants (no known enchantments), giving me 800 DA, which results in 47% reduction. If the damage formula were int(DA*(int(.25MA)-DR)), the highest possible damage would be 87. I got a high of 88. So int(DA(*.25MA-DR) is a better approximation at the high end. With the Vestments, an added 5 DR would force the high to be 120, not 121. So the effect is 4 DR. --Foggy 17:12, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
