Lion Oil Question

Will the Lion oil drop before you have the MacGuffin quest activated (i.e. can you pre-farm these items when it's not a huge stat-hit)? --AtroPhied 06:02, 10 July 2007 (CDT)

Lion Oil? Not 100%

i have adventured in whitey's grove for quest 11. bird rib has dropped. lion oil hasn't dropped yet after encountering it 3 times after bird rib was obtained. --Stevetek 02:08, 22 March 2008 (CDT)

Yes, it's not 100%. None of the new quest items are 100%. Determing the percent is a largely unrealistic goal, since it would require over 1000 different ascensions to pin it down. And that's a little much. --Flargen 03:15, 22 March 2008 (CDT)

Two drop rates

I heard last night on the radio Jick said that the chances of lion oil dropping are significantly higher once you have the appropriate quest (followed by "crap, I probably shouldn't have spoiled that"). I imagine then that there are probably two drop rates that need to be spaded: pre and post quest. --ElleDriver 10:47, 22 August 2008 (CDT)

Have you ever ascended? The bird rib dropping first only applies if you have. If you haven't ascended, then that might have been changed when they last altered the drop conditions. --Melon 17:23, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Lion Oil Drop Rate

Post-Quest:
+201% items, 149 white lions, 90 lion oils.
90/149 = 60.40% / 3.01 = 20.06% base rate +/- 6.56%.

During Quest:
+0% items, 32 white lions, 6 lion oils.
6/32 = 18.75% base rate +/- 13.8%.

if the probability of dropping is 30% base, then +200% brings it to 90%, and observing 56/56 would be: 0.27%
if the probability of the oil and rib are equal, and it's 30%, then observing 108/108 at 90% drop rate would be: 0.001143%

it is incredibly unlikely that the drop rate is 30%
and the drop rate cannot be 50%
this gives us a bound of:
35% <= drop rate < 37.5%
