Triboluminescence

I've deleted the reference to the methyl salicylate, since it doesn't affect the triboluminescence (it's a liquid, for one thing) - any hard sugar candy will triboluminesce when crushed. Try hitting a lump of sugar with a hammer in a dark room to see the effect more easily! --Kay Dekker 22:57, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, it seems that I was partly right and partly wrong. The emitted light is brighter with salicylate-laced mints because the UV light emitted by the triboluminescing sugar causes the methyl salicylate to fluoresce. I never knew that! --Kay Dekker 23:05, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
