Wumpus Hair Drops

Looks like the amount of wumpus hair you get might depend on your +ML. I consistently got only 1 tuft of hair with +10 ML, and got 4 tufts of hair with +202 ML.--GoldS 04:18, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

I got 3 with 125 -Hippoking 22:56, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
3 with 143, 4 with 160, 1 with 0. I've added the formula I believe it to be to the page. Thanks for Flan for helping with spading this. --Hippoking 23:20, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
The formula seems to be off a little near the boundaries. GoldS above got 4 tufts with 202 instead of 5, and I just got 3 with 157. --TheArchivist 13:46, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

I just got 5 for 210 ML and for 235. --Hippoking 12:52, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

3 runs at wumpus with +140 ML (common outfit stuff, AOT5K@10, memory of aggressiveness) and 1 run at +110 (w/o aggressiveness) obtained 3 hair all times --Silent Knight 19:41, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Just got 2 with +101 ML, though formula predicted 3. Looks like the boundary values do need some more testing. Slackerjack 18:50, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I think I found the problem -- +ML from the MCD is not included in the hair-drop formula. Four trials at +101 (MCD 10) produced 2 tufts each time; after switching to +101 (MCD 0), I got 3 tufts from the next wumpus. Slackerjack 19:55, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Well, the detuned radio's the same, then. Gonna try to get my ML up even higher. --Azeltir 05:47, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I think it does cap at 5. I was running 262 ML (252 if the radio doesn't help) and still got 5. El Vibrato outfit= 100 hipposkin poncho = 10 grumpy old man charrrm bracelet = 7 C.A.R.N.I.V.O.R.E. button = 15 SS scarf = 20 Annoying pitchfork= 5 Detuned radioradio = (10) grimmace= 25 Bilious= 25 aria= 40 Eau D'enmity= 5

total= 252 (262 with radio)--Ragudantalus 20:04, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

I can confirm the cap at 5. +255 ML (BM; no MCD) yielded 5 hairs. --Ted the Red 05:05, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Another vote for that formula but with MCD not counting. I had +50 (Ur-kel at level 15, rave whistle, Annoy-o-tron at 10) and got one hair. Switched to +50 (Ur-kel, serpentine sword + snake shield) and got two. I wonder if it was a deliberate decision to exclude MCD etc or if it was an accident. --Campboy 12:43, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I wonder if Jick had this in mind when he drew the wumpus: [1] --MattG987 20:29, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I too can confirm that the MCD does not count towards getting hairs, if that's still in dispute. --LegendaryBard 01:31, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

There appears to be a minimum drop of 1 hair. Running negative ML will not prevent the drop. Tested with -40 ML not counting Annoy-o-tron. --AtlanteanScion 22:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Just did this with -110 or so ML (space trip headphones + drowsy sword) and can confirm it still drops 1 --SilentKnight 22:22, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Greasemonkey

I just made a greasemonkey script to simplify wumpus-hunting - the one thing I didn't bother doing is identifying the wumpus room when you've seen it from two angles - it's pretty rare that that comes up, usually you've seen the other exit being safe before you see a wumpus. http://blog.ravenblack.net/documents/wumpus.user.js has the script. --RavenBlack 15:56, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
