Template talk:Combat
Why was my element tag taken away? Now all the monsters I'm edting to have the new element with them look ugly with the space in there. --Someone Else 14:53, 28 June 2006 (CDT)
- It's still there, it just only works if it has a defined variable. I think there was a linebreak issue before. Now it should be fixed.--SomeStranger (t|c) 15:51, 28 June 2006 (CDT)
- Is there any reason behind not using the element template here?--Dehstil (t|c) 18:26, 28 June 2006 (CDT)
- Someone Else just went ahead and used it inside of the individual pages. I was too lazy to change it =/. If you want to change it go ahead.--SomeStranger (t|c) 18:29, 28 June 2006 (CDT)
- Right, I made it so it works both ways while we change it.--Dehstil (t|c) 18:40, 28 June 2006 (CDT)
- Ok, I think I changed all of them. Continueing that discussion on someone else's page, I say we do put element=none for monsters that have no element and conditionally leave that line out for monsters whose element have been unconfirmed. In fact, I'll do that right now, putting them in the Needs Confirm category.--Dehstil (t|c) 17:24, 29 June 2006 (CDT)
- And by element, we mean resistant to that element and weak against two others, right? Except for the bad spelling and shadow monsters; they're weak against other things...--Dehstil (t|c) 18:42, 29 June 2006 (CDT)
Hey... I have an idea for this template
How about a {{click}} template on the picture of the combat adventure that takes you to the page? I love the {{click}} thing for some reason. --Someone Else 14:25, 16 July 2006 (CDT)
- Somehow that doesn't seem as appropriate as it did in other situations.--Dehstil (t|c) 15:39, 16 July 2006 (CDT)
Hit Points
I have a strong suspicion that {{{hp}}} is actually equal to {{{level}}} is every single case. The reason there'd be any difference is from the inaccuracy of the detective skull. I'm thinking of eliminating that variable, but don't remove that parameter just yet. I have an idea to confirm the 5% deal for the skull.--Dehstil (t|c) 16:21, 17 July 2006 (CDT)
Error in template
- the Baron von Ratsworth part of The Typical Tavern Rats has the word scales in the HP section of this template. this results in an "unrecocognised word" error on the page. whether this is because of the data on the page or the template itself i'm not clever enough to ascertain. --Evilkolbot 05:46, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
- The problem is with the template. I basically see two possible workarounds:
- Add an (optional) flag variable to the template for the user to fill in. If the flag is missing or set to, say, "Value", then the "Moxie for No Hit" is a +9 calculation. If the flag is set to, say, "Text", then "Moxie for No Hit" uses the level text.
- Ask to get StringFunctions installed. Then we can build some clunky template function (using either #pos or #len) that is better able to deal with string vs. text issues.
- Of the two, I guess I'm slightly in favor of the second option. With it we could build a utility TextOrValue template that could possibly be reused elsewhere. --Gymnosophist 15:56, 31 August 2006 (CDT)
- Or it can be fixed. :) Currently, "Scales with player stats" and "?" are appropriate alternate values.--Dehstil (t|c) 19:04, 31 August 2006 (CDT)
- Ok, if you set "MoxieNoHit", it'll display that instead of an error message.--Dehstil (t|c) 16:56, 2 September 2006 (CDT)
- The same error shows up for Lord Spookyraven in Summoning Chamber. So if this is going to be fixed, perhaps it would be good to keep in mind cases where level is of the form <170, and display Moxie for no hit as <something, as well. Vovan 01:45, 14 September 2007 (CDT)
Special effects
Should there be a line for the recent "special attacks"? --Starwed 22:54, 14 March 2007 (CDT)
Template protection
Since this is such a high use template, why isn't it protected?--Toffile 15:56, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
New parameter
Any way that this could pull the monster defense from the metadata? As a friend of mine pointed out, it's kind of stupid to have all of the monster stats but that not showing in the template.--Toffile 11:29, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- It doesn't show location(s) or initiative bonus, either, actually. Defense would probably be reasonable to add. Initiative is kind of niche. Mostly only relevant to speeders trying to get into high-ML situations while still getting the jump. --Flargen 14:58, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- It makes sense that it doesn't show location, since it's mostly commonly used on Location pages. But I think an one additional line for Attack and Defense makes sense (listing it as Att/Def: 76/75 right below Monster Level). Initiative wouldn't be bad either, right below that, although so many initiative values aren't known, that it probably wouldn't that helpful.--Foggy 17:07, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
On a separate note, it would be helpful to have the lines for Moxie and HP recognize the ! parameter for monsters no longer in the game. (I've already started to note this on various data files for retired monsters). I would try it, but I'm pretty sure I'd botch the template.--Foggy 16:24, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- What do you want it to interpret/display that as? --Flargen 23:09, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- I think Indeterminate would work best, like the element field.--Foggy 03:03, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- How's this? --Flargen 05:21, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, implemented. Though if you or anyone else has issues with the current formatting, let me/us known. Making a ! in the other data fields be sensibly interpreted required changes to {{INFOBOX Combat}}, as well (used by {{battle}}, ie monster pages). I've updated that as well to support !'s in the other fields. --Flargen 06:09, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Excellent as always!--Foggy 13:59, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Scales breakage
Note to self (or other admin): "scales with player stats" entries cause undesirable behavior. Adjust to detect these and display accordingly. --Flargen 00:53, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Safe Adventuring's New Formula
I'd like to ask an admin to change this template so that safe adventuring is Monster Atk + 10, not + 7. I believe the relevant lines are:
Moxie for No Hit*:...level+7...attack+7
If the "+7"s are changed to "+10"s, then the change will be pretty much complete across the wiki (except for incidental mentions.) I already modified Safe Adventuring to account for the new knowledge/formula. --Irregular 17:07, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
This template should be updated to calculate moxie-for-no-hit as +10, not +7. --RoyalTonberry 00:48, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, done. --Flargen 04:33, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- Awesome, thanks! --RoyalTonberry 05:58, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Phylum
This template needs to include the monster's phylum, so we can check the various phylums available in a zone. Could someone with admin powers include this, please? Thanks! --Groli 17:23, 22 August 2011 (CEST)
- Over 2 years later, done! --Fig bucket (talk) 20:30, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Link to Disambig
Linking to Avatar of Boris needs to be changed to Avatar of Boris (challenge path). Causes a lot of pages to be included in the What links here thing :x — Cool12309 (talk) 04:26, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Steal Accordion
Could we have the accordion parameter show up here as well, please? (I'm not fully aware how these things work, which is why I originally asked on Template:Data first: To have the parameter show up both here and in Template:INFOBOX Combat.) --Yatsufusa (talk) 02:18, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, done. --Fig bucket (talk) 11:53, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Request: Change 'physical resistance' to 'damage resistance'
Since it's also used to list elemental resistances. --billybobfred (talk) 20:02, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- That field needs more thought in general, but yes, at least making it more generic is good. Done (although it's actually in {{Combat rows}}). --Fig bucket (talk) 20:47, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
