The Conundrums of War
You wander into yet another yurt in the hippy camp, and see you've stumbled upon the Hippy Army recruiting headquarters. A hippy in full battle gear sits behind a desk, and salutes when he sees you.
"Hey, what's up, man?" he says. "Ever thought about joining the Hippy Army? It's an Army of One Love™, man -- we uphold the ideals of peace, beauty, and love in everything we do."
"But don't you violently kill frat boys with guns and bombs?" you ask.
"It is true that on this karmic cycle we are forced to commit violence," he says, "but on an eternal reincarnation scale, it, like, totally evens out, man. Anyone who is killed in this life is given a chance to live again, maybe as a butterfly, maybe as a middle-aged actress. What is one lifetime to an eternal soul?"
"So, you advocate horrific violence in a totally beautiful, peaceful, loving way? You're a soldier and you're a vegetarian?"
"No way, man," he says, looking offended. "I'm a vegan. I don't even eat honey. Do you know the horrible things they do to bees when they enslave them?"
You refrain from saying that whatever happens to bees is fine by you. Bees hate you, and you're not too fond of them, either. You start to back toward the door.
"Well, man, at least take these and think it over, okay?" The recruiter tosses you a pair of sunglasses, which you pocket before scurrying out.
