From A KoL Wiki

This is a guide to help you play a stronger game of Alice's Army.

Before you start, you should get yourself at least one of each card to open up options in your game.
Nextly you should play a game against one of the robots so you can read what all the cards do.
The way the game works is you lay a card for your front-line in rank 1 and your opponent does the same.
Basically your rank 1 faces your opponents rank 1 and they will attack each other.
Then you lay your rank 2 and your opponent lays their rank 2.
etc.
Once you both have an army of 5, the cards in rank 1 attack each other.
Any card that receives lethal damage dies and the card behind it takes its place.
The game proceeds in a series of rounds until all of a player's cards are dead.

Let's have an example game:

Let's say you pick a Halberder for your rank 1 and your opponent picks a Ninja:

<Player> vs Robot
????
????
????
????
Halberder
Ninja
????
????
????
????
Rank 5 Rank 4 Rank 3 Rank 2 Rank 1 Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5

If you hover over the Halberder it shows:

4
4

If you hover over the Ninja it shows:

8
1

This means the Ninja will deal 8 damage to the Halberder and the Halberder will deal 4 damage to the Ninja. Since the Ninja only has 1 health it will die and since the Halberder only has 4 health it will die. At this point, you can call this a tie game.

Next let's say you want to play a Martyr and your opponent wants to play a Martyr.

<Player> vs Robot
????
????
????
Martyr
Halberder
Ninja
Martyr
????
????
????
Rank 5 Rank 4 Rank 3 Rank 2 Rank 1 Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5

If you read the card it says its a:

1
3

Also you will notice it has a special ability:
Special: Any damage done to the friendly card in front of Marty is done to Marty instead.

This means that when your opponent's Ninja hits your Halberder for 8 damage, the Martyr will jump in the way and take the Ninja's blow instead. Since the Martyr only has 3 health, the Ninja's 8 damage blow will kill off the Martyr and save the Halberder.

The same thing happens on your opponent's side.
Your Halberder will hit their Ninja for 4 and their Martyr will absorb the damage.
Since it only has 3 health, the Martyr will die.

Basically the Martyr on both sides will die then the Ninja and Halberder will have another round at each other and kill each other off.
At this point the game is still a tie.

Now at this point the game tends to get interesting.
Let's say you want to play a Spearman and your opponent wants to play a Bowman.

<Player> vs Robot
????
????
Spearman
Martyr
Halberder
Ninja
Martyr
Bowman
????
????
Rank 5 Rank 4 Rank 3 Rank 2 Rank 1 Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5

Spearman reads:

3
5

Bowman reads:

1
4

Also you will notice it has a special ability:
Special Attack: Deal 3 damage to the enemy in Rank 2

By the time your Spearman goes up against your opponent's Bowman, both will be in rank 1 position.
Your Spearman will hit their Bowman for 3 and survive while their Bowman will hit your Your Spearman for 1 and survive.
Also their Bowman will hit the card you lay after Spearman for 3 damage.
Since they won't kill each other, the two have another round at each other.
The Spearman hits the Bowman for another 3 thus killing it while the Bowman hits the Spearman for another 1 which survives and the card you decide to lay after the Spearman for another 3 damage.
Since most cards in the game have under 6 health, their Bowman would kill your dude behind Spearman while your Spearman would kill their Bowman.

The game could go either way at this point depending on what both players do next.

Now let's say you wanted to play a Page and your opponent wanted to play a Sniper.

<Player> vs Robot
????
Page
Spearman
Martyr
Halberder
Ninja
Martyr
Bowman
Sniper
????
Rank 5 Rank 4 Rank 3 Rank 2 Rank 1 Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5

Page reads:

1
4

Also you will notice it has a special ability:
Special: The friendly card in front of her gets +1 Attack Power for base attacks

Sniper reads:

1
1

Also you will notice it has a special ability:
Every Round: Deal 1-2 damage to rearmost enemy card

Basically your Page will grant your Spearman an additional damage to kill off your opponent's Bowman in one blow rather than two. While their Sniper is able to attack your rear-most card for 1-2 damage every round without having to be in rank 1. By the time you get a chance to attack your opponent's Sniper, he'd get 3 or 4 pings in on your rear-most card and probably kill it by then.

And finally for your last card let's say you want to play a Wallman while your opponent wants to plays Dervish.

<Player> vs Robot
Wallman
Page
Spearman
Martyr
Halberder
Ninja
Martyr
Bowman
Sniper
Dervish
Rank 5 Rank 4 Rank 3 Rank 2 Rank 1 Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5

Wallman:

1
8

Dervish:

2
5

Also you will notice it has a special ability:
Special Attack: Deal 0-3 damage to enemy in Rank 2 and the friendly card behind him.

Basically when its his turn to be your rank 1 he will damage the rank 2 on both sides with his special ability. Note that 0-3 damage he deals to both sides each use their own random number so the damage dealt to both sides doesn't have to be equal.

What is the end result of this game?
It depends on the random number generation.
Here's one way it can play out:

  • Round 1:
  • Your Halberder does 4 to their Ninja! (absorbed by Martyr)
  • Their Ninja does 8 to your Halberder! (absorbed by Martyr)
  • Your Martyr dies.
  • Their Martyr dies.
  • Their Sniper does 2 to your Wallman!
  • Round 2:
  • Your Halberder does 4 to their Ninja!
  • Their Ninja does 8 to your Halberder!
  • Your Halberder dies.
  • Their Ninja dies.
  • Their Sniper does 1 to your Wallman!
  • Round 3:
  • Your Spearman does 4 to their Bowman!
  • Their Bowman does 1 to your Spearman!
  • Their Bowman does 3 to your Page!
  • Their Bowman dies.
  • Their Sniper does 2 to your Wallman!
  • Round 4:
  • Your Spearman does 4 to their Sniper!
  • Their Sniper does 1 to your Spearman!
  • Their Sniper dies.
  • Round 5:
  • Your Spearman does 4 to their Dervish!
  • Their Dervish does 2 to your Spearman!
  • Their Dervish does 1 to your Page!
  • Your Page dies.
  • Round 6:
  • Your Spearman does 4 to their Dervish!
  • Their Dervish does 2 to your Spearman!
  • Their Dervish does 2 to your Wallman!
  • Your Spearman dies.
  • Their Dervish dies.
  • You Won!

<Player> vs Robot

Wallman

Rank 5 Rank 4 Rank 3 Rank 2 Rank 1 Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5

What are the chances you would have won, lost or tied this game?
Basically their Dervish could have taken out your Wallman too on the last round if he did 3 damage to your Wallman instead of 2 but that would require the RNG to be overly friendly to your opponent. Such would result in the game being a draw.

Even if your opponent's Sniper did 2 damage every round and their Dervish did 3 every round, the best they could have done was tie you.

Thus this game was clearly yours for the taking.
