Boyhood and Youth

The adventurer you might know as Gad was born as Glückfried in the sullen moor of the ancient Duchy of Saxony (now Lower Saxony and bordering areas. He grew up in a murder of turtles (Yes, a group of turtles is also called murder) and lived with them until Duke Widukind stumbled him across him and immediately recognised Glücksfried's enormous defensive skills. He became Widukind's bodyguard and was dubbed GlücksfriedTheHero after he managed to shield his mentor from an especially vicious attack by the Christian Franconian invaders. Still, even Glücksfried could not prevent the peaceful heathen Saxons from being overrun by Charles The Great and his Franconians. Eventually Widukind surrendered and had himself baptised. Glücksfried, on the other hand, fled.

Journeyman's Years of Travel

Having lost both his home and mentor, and also his heathen religion, Glückfried wandered the lands aimlessly until he encountered a mysterious Jewish Maggid. The wise man inspired Gluecksfried to a new meaningful life and to convert to Judaism, adopting the name Gad. After years of wandering together the Maggid told Gad about a far away country which was in deep peril. This was the first time he heard about the Kingdom of Loathing. Only few days later the sage Maggid died and Gad knew that finding and saving that Kingdom was his fate.

Welcome to the Kingdom. N00b.

After a surprisingly eventless search, Gad entered the realms of King Ralph XII in what some people would call early January 2005. Here his amphibious past immediately let him to the class of Turtle Tamers, to which has been true ever since. During the first months in the Kingdom, GadTheHero only fought against monsters and petted a growing menagerie of little familiars. Still mourning the loss of his home and his two mentors, he mostly kept to himself and even visited the mall only rarely.

A Stranger is a Friend you haven't met

Totally out of the blue, a recruiter of The Council of Shadow, a certain Roy Harper, approched Gad in late spring/early summer and offered him shelter in that growing clan. Gad was more than willing to try out clan life, and was soon firmly integrated into clan chore, making a fast rise into the below-leadership level of the CoS, and becoming a Knight of the Council. In this position he maintained the clan's website, moderated its forum and participate in planning and carrying out various other clan activities.

At the same time, Gad discoverd /haiku and soon spent a lot of his (limited) online time shuttling between the clan chat and the house of Asian poetry, and when the former busy activity in /clan began to wane, /haiku shifted more and more into the centre of Gad's attention.

By November, Gad's huge ego split and his spiritual side embodied itself in the form of GadTheMaggid, who slowly started to develop a guide for Kosher adventuring.

Dawn of a new Era

Only shortly after that, GadTheHero was invited to The Blues' Crimbo Party, an offer no serious Haikuer could turn down, especially at a point at which the CoS was more inactive than ever. So, even though his re-entry into the CoS was not save, due to the absence of the almighty clan leader, Gad left for the party, he the time of his (KoL)life, and then went back only to find that his clan's door had closed behind him and none of the people inside had the key. So, Gad slept alone at his campground for a while, until The Blues took pity and let him back in as a visitor. Overwhelmed by Gad's thankfulness, The Blues eventually offered him full membership. The rest is history.
