Introduction

1a. The purpose of this rulebook is to document the rules for the game show Temptation: The New $ale of the Century. This is to be used as a reference if there are rules disputes or anything of the sort.

1b. These rules may be changed at the producers' and hosts' will--however, doing so will be publicly announced to all active contestants when it is made or before a new game is hosted.

1c. Any major changes to the structure of the game will take effect only after a champion has been retired from the game.

Premise

2a. Temptation is a trivia game at its core--contestants will be required to answer trivia questions in order to earn points (Meat).

2b. At times, these points can be converted to prizes, only through the following: Instant Bargains (see 5) or through the endgame (see 10).

2c. The game is designed to be played with exactly three contestants--therefore, no greater or fewer number of contestants may play at the same time.

2d. The hosts are users Midnight and Poochy: they will be the ones asking the questions and offering the Instant Bargains and other prizes.

General Rules

3a. For most trivia questions, a question will be asked to the contestants. A player may answer at any time with what they believe is the correct answer.

3b. Only the first contestant to respond will have his answer deemed right or wrong by the hosts. Any other answers by any other players will be discarded.

3c. A correct answer will add 5 Meat to the responding player's score; an incorrect answer will deduct 5 Meat from the responding player's score.

3d. All questions have a 15-second time limit. In the main game, if no contestant answers within 15 seconds of the question, it will be thrown out--the correct answer revealed to all players and the next question asked. In the endgame, if the champion fails to answer within 15 seconds, it will count as an incorrect answer.

3e. Only one answer is accepted for each question--right or wrong, the game will continue and another question asked.

3f. Any information offered on top of the answer will be disregarded as long as it is correct--any incorrect information appended to a correct answer will immediately cause the response to be judged incorrect.

3g. To start, all players are given 20 score Meat. The game will continue through a total of four rounds (see 4). The player with the highest score at the end of the four rounds is declared the champion and moves on to the endgame.

3h. If there is a tie for the lead at the end of the game, a single tie-breaker question is asked, in the same format as a regular question. This question may only be answered by the tied players. A player who responds correctly earns the value of the question and wins; one who answers incorrectly loses the value of the question and loses.

3i. If the tie-breaker does not determine a champion, further tie-breakers are asked in the same fashion until a single player has the highest score--he or she is the champion.

3j. If you believe there has been an error in judgment, you may say "Wait!" to pause the game, then voice your concern in a civilized manner. However, in the event of a dispute, if Midnight and Poochy both agree on a decision, our decision is FINAL. Excessive whining and/or extremely poor sportsmanship may result in disqualification, forfeiture of all prizes, and/or a ban from all further games held by Poochy and/or Midnight.

Structure of the Game

4a. The game is composed of four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and a Final Sprint.

4b. Round 1 consists of 5 regular questions, followed by an Instant Bargain (see 5), followed by another 3 regular questions, followed by the first Fame Game. (see 6).

4c. Round 2 consists of 5 regular questions, followed by an Instant Bargain (see 5), followed by another 3 regular questions, followed by the second Fame Game.

4d. Round 3 consists of 5 regular questions, followed by Instant Meat (see 8), followed by another 3 regular questions, followed by the third and final Fame Game.

4e. The Final Sprint consists of a variable number of questions (see 9).

Instant Bargains

5a. Instant Bargains occur twice in the game: once in Round 1, and once in Round 2.

5b. Only the player in the lead is eligible to take part in the Instant Bargain: if two or more players are tied for the lead, see below.

5c. The host will offer the eligible player a prize and offer to "sell" it to the player for some amount of score Meat--this usually is between 5 and 7 Meat for the first Instant Bargain, and between 10 and 13 Meat for the second Instant Bargain.

5d. A player who wants to take the prize may say so--it is then given to the player to keep regardless of the outcome of the game, at the final price and inducements offered. The final price is deducted from the buying player's score.

5e. The player may only spend Meat earned through questions and from special spaces on the Fame Game board--this is referred to "score Meat." Meat earned from the game through other manners is termed "prize Meat." Prize Meat may never be used to purchase an Instant Bargain.

5f. The hosts have the right to try to entice the eligible player into buying the prize--this is done by adding inducements to the offer, to make it more lucrative for the player. Possible inducements can include, but not be limited to:

  • Reducing the sale price of the item, so that the leading player loses less score Meat.
  • Offering Prize Meat in addition to the Instant Bargain.
  • Offering items (see 11) in addition to the Instant Bargain.

5g. When the host or hosts do not want to add any more inducements, he or she will say "Going once," "Going twice", and "No Sale" in three separate instances. A contestant has up to "No Sale" in order to purchase an Instant Bargain: any time afterward, the claim is null and void.

5h. If two or more players are tied for the lead, the tied players are all eligible for the Instant Bargain, and the Instant Bargain goes to the first player to express an explicit desire to purchase the prize. Any player wanting to buy the prize after someone else has claimed it will not earn the prize.

5i. The host will tell the tied players the initial cost of the Bargain, and will conduct a Dutch Auction for the prize. The host will reduce the price of the item and/or offer inducements until he or she decides to stop--a player may purchase at any time during this auction.

5j. A "Sale Surprise" can be offered during any of the Instant Bargains in the game--however, there is not necessarily one in every show. The existence of a "Sale Surprise" is revealed after the Instant Bargain has been completed, whether it is bought or not. The surprise is an additional prize or prize Meat that is awarded to the player in addition to the Instant Bargain.

Fame Games

6a. Fame Games occur three times in the game: once in each of the first three rounds.

6b. The Fame Game is always about a famous person, place, or thing. The question will be introduced with a clause implying whether the subject is a person, place, or thing. Example: "Who am I?", or "What is my name"?

6c. The host will read a series of clues leading to the identity of the subject. The clues will start out vague or obscure, and gradually become more specific or obvious.

6d. A player may answer at any time he or she believes that they know the identity of the subject.

6e. A correct answer ends the question and allows the player to pick from the Fame Game board (see 7); an incorrect answer bars the player from answering this particular question.

6f. If two players have answered incorrectly, all of the clues will be read to the surviving player before he or she responds.

6g. If no player answers the Fame Game question correctly, the question is discarded and the game continues.

The Fame Game Board

7a. A player who answers the Fame Game question correctly will have a chance to pick from this board.

7b. The Fame Game Board consists of 9 spaces, labeled 1-9. Each space conceals a prize, prize Meat, score Meat, or a utility.

7c. Any prize or prize Meat selected from the board belongs to the selecting player; he or she keeps it regardless of the outcome of the main game.

7d. Any particular space may only be selected once throughout the course of the main game; once a space has been selected, it will remain unavailable for the rest of the game.

7e. Hidden amongst the spaces are "Meat Cards".

  • Meat Cards are in three denominations: 10 Meat, 15 Meat, and 25 Meat.
  • Selecting any of these cards awards the player with that amount of score Meat.
  • The 10 Meat card is available at all times during the game. The 15 Meat card is added to the board (replacing a hidden prize) only during the second Fame Game, and remains until the end of the game. The 25 Meat Card is only available during the final Fame Game, and will replace a hidden prize.

7f. The following spaces are "utilities".

  • Burglar: The player who selects this selects an opponent. That player loses 5 score Meat, which is immediately added to the selecting player's score.
  • Lockout: The player who selects this selects an opponent. That player may not answer any of the following three questions. This utility is removed from the board in the final Fame Game, and replaced with a prize.
  • Turbo: The player who selects this will double the value of the next three questions for him only--in only the next three questions, a correct answer earns 10 Meat for this player, while an incorrect answer deducts 10 Meat. This utility is removed from the board in the final Fame Game, and replaced with a prize.
  • Wild Card: The player who selects this will be offered some amount of prize Meat (10,000 at the start of the game, with an additional 5,000 added at the end of each round), or may select another available number on the Fame Game board. If the player opts to pick again, the Wild Card will swap places with a random space (with the possibility that it will swap with itself, i.e. not moving at all), and its value will be increased by 5,000 Meat.
  • New: Vault: A player picking this space will be awarded a random amount of prize meat, chosen at random from 1 to 50,000 Meat.

Instant Meat

8a. Instant Meat only occurs during Round 3.

8b. Only the player in the lead is eligible for Instant Meat--if there is a tie for the lead, see 8d.

8c. The cost to play is 15 Meat, which is deducted from the leader's score if he wishes to play. The host will not throw in extra incentives to play, and the cost will only be reduced pertaining to rule 8d.

8d. If two or more players are tied for the lead, a Dutch auction is conducted for the right to play--the cost to play starts off at 15 Meat, and can be reduced at the host's discretion until he or she does not wish to decrease any further or until someone decides to play.

8e. The contestant playing Instant Meat is offered a choice of four boxes. The boxes contain, in random order and shuffled with every show:

  • Jackpot
  • 2,000 prize Meat
  • A random one of: Burglar, Lockout, or Turbo.
  • 15 Meat - A "refund" of the cost to play. This will always be 15 Meat even if the player got a reduced cost to play through rule 8d (thus making a profit possible).

8f. The jackpot's value is calculated as 100,000 plus 20,000 for each show since the jackpot was last won that the jackpot was not selected in Instant Meat--this includes the shows in which all contestants declined to play Instant Meat.

8g, If a player selects the jackpot, the jackpot's value is reset to 100,000 for the following show.

Final Sprint

9a. Final Sprint constitutes the final round of the game.

9b. The host will set a clock to 90 seconds, and will ask a series of questions--these questions are worth 5 Meat up or down.

9c. Players have 10 seconds to respond to questions as opposed to the 15 in the main game.

9d. When the 90 seconds allotted for the round expires, the round is over.

9e. The player with the greatest score is declared the winner and moves on to the endgame (see 10).

9f. Each contestant who does not win the game will be given prize Meat equal to 250 times the amount of score Meat that they ended the game with in addition to whatever prizes he or she won in the main game. The champion, when retired, receives the same with the amount in his or her cumulative score bank.

9g. Contestants are eligible to return in future shows so long as they are not champions. Champions may return to shows only during special tournaments.

The Endgame

10a. The champion's final score is noted, and added to a cumulative score bank--this score Meat can be used to purchase one of the 8 tiers of grand prizes.

10b. The grand prizes, as well as the score Meat required to win that tier's grand prize, is listed in PoochyEXE's Display Case.

10c. A champion may purchase any prize that he or she has sufficient score Meat in his or her account to afford. Alternatively, each tier has a number of wins associated with it -- a champion who has won the specified number of consecutive games but does not have the score Meat needed to purchase the tier may still purchase the tier for all of his or her banked score Meat.

10d. A champion may only purchase one tier of grand prizes--he or she is immediately retired afterward, and three new contestants selected for the next game.

10e. At the end of every main game, the champion is given the option to purchase any prize tier he or she can afford, or return on the following show to defend their title and earn more score Meat for their cumulative bank.

10f. A player may only appear as a champion a maximum of 10 times--any champion who has won on 10 shows is awarded the final prize tier and retired as a Grand Champion.

10h. A champion choosing to defend their title has a prize fund opened in their name--with 500,000 Meat deposited. This prize fund may only be claimed if it is part of one of the eight grand prize tiers.

10i. The champion then plays the "Ten-in-a-Row" bonus round. He or she will have 90 seconds to answer 10 trivia questions correctly. The champion is free to pass on a question without penalty, and wrong answers have no penalty as well. If he or she succeeds in answering 10 questions correctly, an additional 500,000 Meat will be deposited in the prize fund.

10j. The eight tiers are the following, in order of ascending value and score Meat cost:

  • Tier 1: Prize A
  • Tier 2: Prize B
  • Tier 3: Prize C
  • Tier 4: Prize D
  • Tier 5: Prize E
  • Tier 6: Every prize (Prizes A, B, C, D, and E)
  • Tier 7: The champion's prize fund.
  • Tier 8: Every prize and double the champion's prize fund.

The current requirement for each tier is as follows:

Tier Requirement
1 77 Meat or 1 win
2 155 Meat or 2 wins
3 239 Meat or 3 wins
4 314 Meat or 4 wins
5 423 Meat or 5 wins
6 530 Meat or 8 wins
7 640 Meat or 9 wins
8 760 Meat or 10 wins

One-Shot Games

11a. At the producers' discretion, a "one-shot" special may be played outside of the regular series. A one-shot game will have no returning champion, and the winner does not return as champion for the next game. Those who have won a one-shot game may still play a series game.

11b. In a one-shot game, Instant Meat will not be played, and instead will be replaced by the Vault. This will cost the leading player exactly 15 Meat to play, and this price remains constant. If there is a tie for the lead, a Dutch auction will be conducted amongst the tied players for the right to open the Vault. The Vault, if taken by the player, will be worth a random amount of Meat (between 11 and 100,000 Meat), as determined by a RNG and a secret algorithm.

11c. The Endgame will be replaced by the Ten in a Row bonus round. The player will be asked ten questions. A correct answer increases the value of the current chain, but if the player answers incorrectly or takes more than 15 seconds to answer, the chain is lost. The player can elect to "bank" after any correct answer, which adds the value of the chain to the player's bank and starts a new chain. After the 10th question, the chain is automatically banked, and the player wins his/her banked Meat.

Items

Note: These items are highly experimental, and are subject to change.

Throughout the game, some items may be offered to players for later use. These items can be retained as long as the player holding the item remains champion, i.e. if an item is unused for one game and the player holding the item wins that game, he/she can use it on the next episode. All items are one use only.

Note: These items will be quite uncommon, and might not even show up in a game.

"Misdirection" Card: If an opponent gets the Lockout or Burglar during a Fame Game, this item is automatically used up. The player who picked the Lockout or Burglar does not get to decide who to use it on; it is automatically used on the opponent who did not have the Misdirection Card. For example, if Player 1 gets a Lockout and Player 2 has a Misdirection Card, the Lockout is automatically used on Player 3, and Player 2's Misdirection Card is used up.

"Take!" Card: If an opponent wins a prize from the Fame Game Board, this card may be used to receive a duplicate of the same prize. This card may only be used on prizes, not score Meat cards or utilities.
