capitalisation redirects
- hi, and welcome to the wiki. i'd be interested to know how you're getting 404s for proper case against lower case. in the bad old days (2006?) searching for "Spooky Vampire" wouldn't immediately fnd "spooky vampire" and you would need a redirect. when that was fixed, though, we changed the policy and removed them. you still need a redirect for title case (e.g. "Lord of the Rings") but convention says that those should always be all lower case. one final thing, links must be cased exactly. there is a temptation to add a redirect to get round a red link but it must be resisted. one of the few easily explainable rules round here is "don't link to redirects." and there's a second section to a link to specify the text that is displayed (e.g. [[link|displayed text]]) so you never have to. --Evilkolbot (talk) 08:25, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- or should I respond here? I redirected because I am writing a Kol Script that looks up init for monsters that Mafia doesn't have the data for, don't worry though, it caches when it last looked up a monster and only looks them up once ever ~ten days. although at the begining of the month it may be sooner. Also, I came up with a solution that solves the majority of capitolization exceptions... first it looks up Origional_Capitalization and if it gets a 404 it looks up Origional_capitalization however... today i added redirects from Animated nightstand (white) to Animated nightstand (White) since that is a rarer and more difficult capitalization rule to auto fix... I figured it wouldn't be a problem b/c it was just a redirect and wouldn't have any namespace clashing. --Paragon123 (talk) 05:03, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
- see my talk. the idea is to keep talk on one page. tl; dr; change your script, not the wiki. --Evilkolbot (talk) 06:34, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
