Walk Without Rhythm
You arrive back at the sietch, and Gnasir greets you solemnly. "Hail, traveler. Are you prepared for your training? Your first task will be to acquire a thumper."
"A what?"
"It is a device used to attract the sandworm. Anything that emits a heavy rhythmic vibration will serve, but you must acquire it for yourself."
"Man... couldn't I just jump up and down a lot?"
"No."
- Without a drum machine:
Grumbling, you head back toward the oasis.
- With a drum machine:
"All right," you sigh. "Will this work?" You show him a drum machine you found at the oasis.
"This thumper will serve you well," he replies. "However, summoning the worm is only the first step -- if you cannot control it, you will ride nowhere but to the grave." He hands you an old leather-bound book. "This tome contains the collected wisdom of all the worm-riders of our tribe."
You start to flip through the book, but discover a problem. "Um... there are some pages missing."
Gnasir nods grimly. "Yes, fifteen pages have been lost to the desert winds. You will need to recover them before you can complete your training."
"You have got to be kidding me."
"Nope."
Cursing under your breath, you hand the book back and head back to the oasis.
Occurs at The Arid, Extra-Dry Desert (if you are Ultrahydrated)
Notes
- A one-time superlikely adventure.
- Without a drum machine, unlocks Walk Without Rhythm 2. With one, you get to skip that adventure and it unlocks Blowin' in the Wind (page 1) in The Oasis.
Reference
- 'Walk without rhythm and it won't attract the worm' is a line from the Fatboy Slim song, 'Weapon of Choice', which itself is a reference to the Fremen people in Frank Herbert's novel Dune.
