- This is a reference to the movie The Beastmaster, where the hero had two trained ferrets who would steal things for him. (In the novel on which the film was very loosely based, they were a pair of trained Meerkats.)
- The fact that it is unclear whether they are marmots or ferrets is itself a reference to the film The Big Lebowski, in which the protagonist believes a ferret to be a marmot.
