balsa plank
This is a plank of light, soft balsa wood. It's good for introductory woodworking, because you could cut it with a butterknife, so you're less likely to lose a thumb forcing it through the table saw.
You gotta wonder why Shop class doesn't just use butter, though. Maybe they can't afford to keep the room cold enough, or maybe fewer students would sign up for Butter Shop versus Wood Shop.
