The Bow Tie Bat is a Pasta Guardian which Pastamancers can call upon in combat under certain conditions. By using a smoking talon a Pastamancer can establish a connection with a Bow Tie Bat.
Once connected, the Pastamancer can then summon it in combat. It will increase damage dealt by melee and spell attacks. After reaching level 5, it will cause passive damage through combat, and at level 10, it will try to pickpocket your enemy.
Combat Messages
- When summoning it before it has reached level 5:
- You call out to <name> with your mind, summoning his spirit even as you create a body for him. He lets loose an ear-splitting screech.
- When summoning it after it has reached level 5:
- You call out to <name> with your mind, summoning his spirit even as you create a body for him. He lets loose an ear-splitting screech.
- As the horrible screeching continues to reverberate around the area, <name> flies up to your opponent and sinks his tiny, starchy fangs into its neck, causing it to bleed profusely.
- On every round of combat after the first one:
- The air continues to reverberate with echoes of <name>'s screech.
- On every round of combat once it has reached level 5:
- Blood flows freely from <its> gaping neck wound. Looks like <it> lost about X damage worth, there...
- On rounds 2-4 of combat once it has reached level 10:
- <name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a yellow arrow. Weird.
- <name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying dead duck. Or maybe it's a dragon. Weird.
- <name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a glimmering chalice. Weird.
- <name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a big magnet. Weird.
- <name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a... bridge? Weird.
- <name> flits into your opponent's pocket, and fetches you an item.
Name
Bow Tie Bat names follow a specific pattern - they consist of two sound-related words (Bark, Chitter, Fang, Flap, Ping, Scratch, Skritch, Squeak, Swoop), the first one suffixed with "-ity" (and a doubled consonant if necessary). Some examples are "Barkity Chitter", "Flappity Scratch", "Scratchity Skritch", and "Skritchity Fang".
Notes
- One of the Pasta Guardians. Guardian summons are limited to 10 per day, or 15 with the Bandolier of the Spaghetti Elemental.
- Grants +20*X% Weapon Damage and Spell Damage, where X is the level of the Bat.
- At level 5 or higher, it will cause 15 to 20 damage each round to your enemy.
- At level 10, the Bow Tie Bat will attempt to pickpocket for 3 rounds (rounds 2-4), although it can only succeed once. It can steal on the round the monster is killed, and it cannot pickpocket conditional items.
References
- The level 10 messages reference the Adventure console game, in which a bat could carry objects around, including a sword (depicted as a yellow arrow), live or dead dragons (which resemble ducks), a chalice, a magnet, and a bridge.
- The message about confusing a dragon for a duck is a reference to Homestar Runner, which has a running gag involving someone being chased by something that looks like the dragon from Adventure and yelling "Somebody get this freaking duck away from me!"
- Prior to a trivial update on July 6, 2009, the Bow Tie Bat could successfully pickpocket multiple items in a single round, and the pickpocketed item could still drop.
