Shields have the unique ability to reduce damage directly, which sets them apart from the lesser damage absorbing abilities of pants and hats. Many shields also give stat increases. There was once a time when shields were accessories, but now they are off-hand items. Most shields can only be crafted by those select few with a certain skill. Others have honed their skills and now have the ability to use their shields offensively. Those who can not create their own shields can find them while adventuring through the kingdom, or by talking to crazy mystics.
