[ Return to Game Mechanics ]

Description

There are days where you'll want to maximize a particular stat or game mechanics ability. Perhaps it's for plumbing the depths of Fernswarthy's Basement, overpowering your opponents in PvP, farming for meat or items, dealing with a difficult opponent, or just experimenting. At times like these, you'll want to be Dressing For Success. There's a lot more to it than just finding the right hat for the job - you'll want to take advantage of buffs, passive skills, effects from items and more.

In recognition of the fact that most people don't have piles of Mafia Raffle Prize gear stacked up in their closet, we've organized things by player classifications. The five player classifications are KOL Deity, Villa, Hardcore, Normal, and Apathetic Lizardman. These classifications stratify players according to the level of time and effort they have invested in the game, which translates into the quality of gear and buffs they can afford as well as the number of skills they have accumulated. The classifications are in descending order and are more fully discussed in the Player Classifications section below. The Equipment/Buff Classifications are also more fully discussed in the Equipment/Buff Classifications section below.

Maximizing Your ...

Here are the links to the gear/buff combinations that will maximize a particular stat/game mechanic. Note that percentage increases to Base Stats have been calculated on an assumed Base Stat value of 100.

Recap Table

Recapped here are the totals from each of the Maximizing Your ... pages. From this, it's easy to see that if you're a dedicated Fernswarthy's Basement delver, you may wish to skew your base stats towards Mysticality and Moxie and away from Muscle.

Player Classifications

  • KOL Deity
This player has the absolute best possible equipment and advantages. This represents the theoretical maximum.
  • Villa
This player has worked steadfastly to obtain the best possible gear, excepting only gear priced in the low bugmeat range and higher. This player has ascended a number of times, probably including a hardcore and a hardcore oxy. This player has also made the choice to do such things as picking the appropriate class and zodiac sign, getting Hopped Up on Goofballs and getting their clan to shell out for buffs. It can be a tough task, but any player in the game can do it, given enough diligence and perseverance.
  • Hardcore
This player has worked very hard and has probably gone through several ascensions, but has not gone to quite the extremes that a Villa player (villan) has.
  • Normal
This player probably hasn't ascended yet, but has made a decent effort.
  • Apathetic Lizardman
This player, clearly, just goes with whatever can be picked up with minimal effort.

Equipment/Buff Classifications

  • Custom Equipment
Custom Equipment is only available to KOL Deity type players.
  • Ultra Rares
Ultra Rares are only available to KOL Deity type players.
  • Mafia Prizes
Mafia Raffle Prizes are only available to KOL Deity type players.
  • Maximum Equipment Value
The maximum value of a single piece of equipment. Villa type players receive a relatively generous allowance of 10,000,000 meat, with the allowance for each subsequent player type being reduced by a factor of 10. This means, for example, that Villa players may equip three Mr. Accessorys while an Apathetic Lizardman may not equip any of the Jewelrymaking accessories as they are currently too expensive.
  • Plexiglass Equipment
Plexiglass Equipment is only available to Villa types and above because the only way to obtain it is to complete a very difficult Hardcore Oxygenarian ascension.
  • Non Buff Skills
These are self-only skills. As it will typically take a number of ascensions to accumulate these, this category is only available to Villa types and above.
  • Clan Buffs
It's a rare player who can get clan buffs on command. Consequently, this category is only available to Villa types and above.
  • Class Equipment
Class-Specific Equipment will benefit you only if you have selected a particular class to play. Consequently, this category is only available to Villa types and above.
  • Zodiac Sign Bonus
Zodiac sign bonuses (like Packrat) will benefit you only if you have selected a particular Zodiac sign to play. Consequently, this category is only available to Villa types and above.
  • Moon Bonus
For our purposes, the moons influence is fairly limited in scope, governing only Temporary Lycanthropy (and the Talisman of Baio) and even then is maximally beneficial for only a few days. This category is only available to Villa types and above.
  • Hopped Up on Goofballs
You have to be pretty crazy to get Hopped Up on Goofballs. This category is only available to Villa types and above.
  • Limit on Mind-Control Device Equipment
Additional copies of The Super-Secret Canadian Mind-Control Device special drops can only be obtained by ascending multiple times, and even so, you must have the right zodiac sign and device setting. Accordingly, multiple Mind-Control special accessories are limited as follows: no limit for Villa types and above, and a limit of 1 for Hardcore types. No Mind-Control special drops of any kind are available to Normal & Apathetic Lizardman types.
  • Stainless Steel Equipment
Stainless Steel Equipment is only available to Hardcore types and above because the only way to obtain it is to complete a fairly difficult Hardcore ascension.
  • Maximum Item Buff Value
The maximum value of an item that gives the desired buff. Hardcore type players and above have no limit. Normal type players have a 10,000 meat limit, which allows them most of the item buffs, including most of the nice buffs from reagent potions. Apathetic Lizardmen get a limit of 1,000 meat.
  • Skill Buffs
Most everyone can either self-buff or are able to purchase skill buffs from other players. The only exception are the Apathetic Lizardman, who are too lazy to bother.
  • ! Potions
Most everyone can use the Dungeons of Doom potions to obtain a desired result. The only exception are the Apathetic Lizardman, who haven't gotten around to figuring out which potions do what.
