Description
There are days where you'll want to maximize a particular stat or game mechanics ability. Perhaps it's for plumbing the depths of Fernswarthy's Basement, overpowering your opponents in PvP, farming for Meat or items, dealing with a difficult opponent, or just experimenting. At times like these, you'll want to be Dressing For Success. There's a lot more to it than just finding the right hat for the job -- you'll want to take advantage of buffs, passive skills, effects from items and more.
In recognition of the fact that most people don't have piles of Mafia Raffle Prize gear stacked up in their closet, we've organized things by player classifications. The five player classifications are KoL Deity, Villa, Ascender, Casual, and Apathetic Lizardman. These classifications stratify players according to the level of time and effort they have invested in the game, which translates into the quality of gear and buffs they can afford as well as the number of skills they have accumulated. The classifications are in descending order and are more fully discussed in the Player Classifications section below. The Equipment/Buff Classifications are also more fully discussed in the Equipment/Buff Classifications section below.

Here are the links to the gear/buff combinations that will maximize a particular stat/game mechanic.
Note that percentage increases to Base Stats have been calculated on an assumed Base Stat value of 150; in many cases, figures may differ significantly.

1Elemental bonuses and physical bonuses have been counted together due to the way Weapon Damage works.
2Elemental bonuses are only applied to spells of the same element.
3Mysticality classes have an innate 5% resistance to elemental damage. This resistance applies only to damage, and not to "quest requirements" like the Daily Dungeon and the Mt. McLargeHuge Quest.
Explanation of Methodology
This table details the equipment and buffs available to each Player Classification. All players are assumed to have full access to the mall and are free of any Ronin or Hardcore constraints. This includes access to all permanent skills, so Bad Moon restrictions (and consequently, bonuses) are ignored.

Player Classifications
- KoL Deity
- This player has the absolute best possible equipment and advantages. This represents the theoretical maximum.
- Villa
- This player has worked steadfastly to obtain the best possible gear, excepting only gear priced in the low bugmeat range and higher. This player has ascended a number of times, including some Hardcore, Hardcore Oxy and Hardcore Bad Moon runs. This player has also made the choice to do such things as picking the appropriate class and moon sign, getting Hopped Up on Goofballs and getting their clan to shell out for buffs. It can be a tough task, but any player in the game can do it, given enough diligence and perseverance.
- Ascender
- This player has worked very hard and has ascended a number of times, including some Hardcore, Hardcore Oxy and Hardcore Bad Moon runs, but has not gone to quite the extremes that a Villa player (villan) has.
- Casual
- This player may have not been around long, but has made a decent effort to play the game. They have ascended a number of times including some Hardcore runs, but has not gone to quite the extremes that a Ascender has.
- Apathetic Lizardman
- This player probably hasn't ascended yet, but has made a decent effort.
Equipment/Buff Classifications
- Custom Equipment
- Custom Equipment is only available to KoL Deity type players.
- Ultra Rares
- Ultra Rares are only available to KoL Deity type players.
- Mafia Prizes
- Mafia Raffle Prizes are only available to KoL Deity type players.
- Maximum Equipment Value
- The maximum value of a single piece of equipment. Villa type players receive a relatively generous allowance of 10,000,000 Meat, with the allowance for each subsequent player type being reduced. This means, for example, that Villa players may equip three Mr. Accessories while an Apathetic Lizardman may not equip any of the Mr. Store items as they are too expensive.
- Brimstone Equipment
- Brimstone Equipment is only available to Ascender types and above because the only way to get it is to go through a Hardcore Bad Moon ascension.
- Plexiglass Equipment
- Plexiglass Equipment is only available to Ascender types and above because the only way to obtain it is to complete a very difficult Hardcore Oxygenarian ascension.
- Non-Buff Skills
- These are self-only skills. As it will typically take a number of ascensions to accumulate these, this category is only readily available to Ascender types and above. The Casual type most likely has permed the best ones, and as such they have access to the common ones (Double-Fisted Skull Smashing, Torso Awaregness, Amphibian Sympathy, Mad Looting Skillz, and Leash of Linguini).
- Clan Buffs
- It's a rare player who can get clan buffs on command. Consequently, this category is only available to Villa types and above.
- Clan Equipment
- A clan with the equipment that you want is normally easily found, so any player can find one that has the equipment to help maximize what they want.
- Class Equipment/Bonus
- Class-Specific Equipment will benefit you only if you have selected a particular class to play. Similar reasoning applies to innate class bonuses like a Muscle incarnation's HP bonus. Consequently, this category is only available to Ascender types and above.
- Duct Tape Items
- Duct tape has a low drop rate and often takes many days to amass and as such these items are only available to Ascenders and above.
- Moon Sign Bonus
- Moon sign bonuses (like The Packrat) will benefit you only if you have selected a particular moon sign to play. Consequently, this category is only available to Ascender types and above.
- Hopped Up on Goofballs
- You have to be pretty crazy to get Hopped Up on Goofballs. This category is only available to Villa types and above.
- Limit on Mind-Control Device Equipment
- Additional copies of The Super-Secret Canadian Mind-Control Device/detuned radio/The Annoy-o-Tron 5000 special drops can only be obtained by ascending multiple times, and even so, you must have the right device setting. Accordingly, multiple Mind-Control special accessories are limited to Casual types and above. No Mind-Control special drops of any kind are available to Apathetic Lizardman type.
- Stainless Steel Equipment
- Stainless Steel Equipment is only available to Casual types and above because the only way to obtain it is to complete a fairly difficult Hardcore ascension.
- Maximum Item Buff Value
- The maximum value of an item that gives the desired buff. Ascenders are allowed a 10k limit which will allow them almost all buffs; Casuals are allowed 5k which cuts out some of the higher buffs; and Apathetic Lizardmen would be reluctant to spend much on item buffs and are allowed only 1k.
- Skill Buffs
- Everyone can either self-buff or are able to purchase skill buffs from other players.
- ! Potions
- Most everyone can use the Dungeons of Doom potions to obtain a desired result.
- Adventure Buffs
- Buffs resulting from adventures (e.g., Dreams and Lights) are difficult to stack, and hence are excluded for all player classes.
- Telescope
- Since the only way to get a Telescope involves a fairly expensive basement dive, which itself begs for several permed skills, full telescope access is restricted to Villas or higher.
- Jumpsuited Hound Dog is believed to act as a 1.25 fairy, and is available to Ascender class and up
