- "Orange" is a well-known example of an English word for which there are no legitimate rhyming words.
- "Veni, vedi, vici" is a famous Latin phrase often attributed to Julius Caesar. It translates as "I came, I saw, I conquered." The 'c' in vici is pronounced like the 'ch' in "change" by English and Italian speakers, which makes the line rhyme with lychee. However, Latin lacked soft 'ch' and soft 'c' sounds, as well as the English 'v' sound. The 'c' was always a hard 'c', and the 'v' was pronounced like the English 'w'.
