The stairway to the next level down is guarded by a ferocious n-Headed Hydra. Looks like you've got a lot of heads to chop off if you want to get any further.
The Hydra attempts to bite you in the $part with several of its heads, but they end up bumping into each other instead.

m is equal to the level of the basement you are at.
