- The Hip-hop duo The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy have a song called "Famous and Dandy like Amos 'n Andy" that ends with the line: "I still don't know what the colors mean: red, black, and green.", which in turn is a reference (for both the song and this item) to the Pan-African flag, the color combination for which is used commonly in making this sort of dread hat, about as equally as the color combo for the Jamaican flag is used.
