Familiar Names

Everytime a character puts a familiar hatchling into their Familiar-Gro™ Terrarium, and it becomes their familiar, it is given a default name.

The familiar's name will appear in its action messages, for example in battle:

Gobert attempts to hit him/her/it, but misses.

In this case, the <familiar name> is Gobert.

Of course, the player can rename his or her familiar to whatever name they see fit by clicking "Manage Familiar Names" on the "Manage your Familiar" page.

Any new familiar's name is put together randomly using this "recipe":

Special Familiar Names

• The Clockwork Grapefruit begins with the default name of 6655321, rather than any of the above.
• The Blood-Faced Volleyball cannot be named "Wilson", in order to spur creativity. "Voit" and "Spaulding", however, are allowed.
• The Exotic Parrot cannot be named "Polly". If you try to do so, it will be named "Unoriginality" instead.
• The Ragamuffin Imp cannot be named "tatter", the word by which it is summoned. Instead, it will be named "Spoiler".

Notes

• If you go to your "manage familiar names" page and leave a text field blank, the familiar is named No Name McGee. The same thing happens if you try to include a < in the name, because you could be trying to include HTML, which would be a very bad thing.
• Attempting to use an ampersand (&) in the familiar name results in the symbol being changed to 'n'.
• Trying to name a familiar with ten or more of the same character or digit gives this error message: I reckon you tried too many repeating characters, mmhmm.
• Attempting to name your familiar any profanity will instead name it [profanity].
• Placing brackets '[ ]' or the '{ }' characters in the name will cause the brackets to show up everywhere (side frame, terrarium, character sheet, etc.) except in a combat. In a combat, it will just display the familiar's name without the brackets (Like "[x]" or "{x}" would show up as "x" in a combat). If you place just the brackets in the name, then the name will be displayed as just a blank spot in combat.
