Combat Messages
Red eye
-
's red eye alights on a short guy with a huge, red, handlebar mustache. The guy screams, "my biscuits are burnin'!" and leaps into a pond.
-
glances at a teakettle with his red eye. The kettle begins to whistle.
-
's red eye sears a nearby patch of sand into glass.
-
glances at a patch of grass with his red eye. The grass turns brown and withers. Whither? Over there.
-
cracks an egg on the sidewalk, then glares at it with his red eye until the egg's completely fried.
-
's red eye glances at an ant crawling at your feet. The ant turns red and begins to smoke. Not, like, cigarettes... Like something that's about to burst into flames.
-
glances at a puddle with his red eye. The puddle starts to get steamed. Not, like, mad -- I mean, the puddle's hot enough that the water is sublimating.
-
glances at a child's ice cream cone with his red eye. The child wails as the cone melts.
-
's red eye alights on a big fat dude, who breaks out in beads of sweat. That may be coincidental, though.
-
's red eye glances at a bird flying overhead. It drops out of the sky, smelling delicious as it lands.
-
glances at an ice-cold beer with his red eye, tragically transforming it to piping-hot beer.
Blue eye
- A balloon floats into the path of
's blue eye. The balloon falls to the ground and shatters. Science is awesome!
-
glances at a passing hippy with his blue eye. The hippy pulls his hemp jacket closer around his beaded vest.
-
looks at a passing frat boy with his blue eye. The frat boy pulls his popped collar up even higher to cover his ears.
-
glances at a nearby hobo with his blue eye. The hobo shudders and covers himself with some additional newspapers.
-
glares at a passing penguin with his blue eye. The penguin nods, and says, "thanks, youse guys; I was sweatin' my tail feathers off."
-
glares at a passerby with his blue eye. The passerby shivers and breaks out in goosebumps. Or possibly Fear Street.
-
glances at your arm with his blue eye. You break out in goosebumps. Or, if you're from Minnesota, greyduckbumps.
-
looks at a flower with his blue eye. The flower's petals brown and curl, rimmed in frost.
-
looks at a nearby window with his blue eye. You write your name in the frost that forms.
-
glares at a puddle of water with his blue eye. Someone slips on the puddle and falls in a hilariously bone-shattering manner.
Yellow eye
-
's yellow eye gazes upon a pie cooling on a windowsill. The pie doesn't vanish, but the hobo who was trying to steal it does.
-
's yellow eye gazes upon a street magician, making the magician vanish. Rabbits everywhere applaud the poetic justice.
-
glares with his yellow eye at a milk carton. The carton, and the milk inside of it, vanish completely.
-
glares with his yellow eye at a passing pigeon. There's a gentle *pop* as air rushes into the pigeon-shaped hole in reality.
-
glares at a passing pigeon with his yellow eye. There's a *pop,* and then just bird poop falling from a clear blue sky.
-
's yellow eye gazes upon a passing frat boy. There's a gentle *pop,* then just the lingering scent of cheap cologne and desperation.
-
's yellow eye gazes upon a passing hippy. There's a gentle *pop,* then just the lingering scent of patchouli.
-
fixes his yellow eye on a nearby mailbox. A few seconds later, there's a mailbox-shaped pocket of empty space where the mailbox used to be.
-
glances at a pile of socks with his yellow eye. Half of the socks vanish without a trace. A-HA!
-
yellow eye glares at some nearby car keys. They vanish without a trace. I knew it!
End of combat
-
winks at you with its giant central eye.
-
gives you an invigorating hot rock massage.
You gain some hit points. You gain some Mana Points.
Arena Messages
Notes
- Once each combat you may use the skill Point at your opponent to have the He-Boulder fire a ray from one of its 3 eye-stalks.
- Each round in combat, you will receive messages about which eye is active. This tells you which ray will fire if you point that round.
- A minor ray has the following effects
- Red: 2-3 × <weight> of hot damage
- Blue: 1-2 × <weight> of cold damage (and?)
- Yellow: ½-1 × <weight> of physical damage (and?)
- A major ray has the following effects
- Red: Deals hot damage and gives you stats
- Blue: Stuns enemy for multiple rounds
- Yellow: Disintegrates enemy, and forces it to drop all of its (non-conditional) items.
References
- This familiar is a reference to the beholder from Dungeons & Dragons.
- He is the symbol for Helium, making the unabbreviated name of this familiar "Helium Boulder." Helium, being lighter than air, is commonly used to fill balloons to make them float, referencing the hatchling's floatiness.
- "My biscuits are burning" is a quote from Yosemite Sam (a short guy with a huge, red, handlebar mustache), delivered during a cameo scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
- The "You break out in goosebumps. Or, if you're from Minnesota, greyduckbumps" message refers to the child's game "Duck, Duck, Goose," which is indeed played as "Duck, Duck, Grey Duck" in Minnesota.
- The "The passerby shivers and breaks out in goosebumps. Or possibly Fear Street." message refers to Shivers, Goosebumps and Fear Street, three series of horror novels for young readers, the latter two of which are written by the author R.L. Stine.
- The description refers to the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
