You suavely slide up to the pretty young lady. “Look, call me crazy, but don’t I know you from somewhere?”
The girl rolls her eyes. “Is that the best you can do? You might as well ask me if my father was a baker.”
”Okay, was your father a baker? I mean, you do kind of smell like bread, now that I’m really close to you . . .”
”You’re hopeless, you know that?”
”But I’m a dark and seductive creature of the night! I’ve crossed oceans of time to be with you!”
”Sorry, I just don’t buy what you’re selling, junior. Do you know how many fanged freaks a night tell me I’m their long lost lover?” And with that, she turns and walks away. You don’t need vampire senses to smell your own flop sweat.

”Good grief,” she says, rolling her eyes . . . but then she meets your gaze and can’t look away.
”Yessss, look deep into my eyes,” you say. “I have crossed oceans of time to be with you. Well, okay, I haven’t been a vampire for that long, so it’s more like a puddle. But a really deep puddle! Like, the kind that gets up over your shoes and soaks your socks?”
Despite the amazing weakness of your game, the woman is mesmerized.
”How shall I serve you, Master?” she says, stepping closer.
”You know, I hadn’t really thought it out that far --”
”Vile creature of the night! Unhand that woman and prepare to meet your doom!” You spin around and see a midget pointing a crossbow at you. “I, Minivan Helsing, shall send you to hell where you belong!”
”Look, I don’t even have any hands on her yet, so --” your protestation is interrupted by a thwip as the crossbow fires.
You feel yourself rising away from the street, out of the troubles of this world, your spirit free from your body . . .
Then you hear the rustle of your leathery wings, and realize you’re not dead, you’ve just discovered how to turn into a bat. Cool!
