- "First, do no harm" is often attributed to the Hippocratic Oath. It is also a basic tenet taught to medical students.
- A white hat is a hacker who hacks for, from their point of view, ethical purposes -- like trying to find a security vulnerability before it can be exploited. On the other hand a black hat is a hacker who would exploit said security vulnerability.
- The item's name and description may also refer to the Unix based operating system Red Hat, hackers often claiming to use a distribution of Unix/Linux when they hack, with Red Hat being one of more widely known versions.
