The untamed turtle also drops turtle wax and snailmail bits. Don't have the text yet. One days advs gave 45 snailmail bits, 42 turtle wax and 38 turtlemail bits, so that looks like 1:1:1. Still no text :( --LotsOfPhil

Message doesn't change for what gets dropped:

So does the throned familiar act more than once per battle, i.e. the seal larva dropping nuggets? --Lemon-claw 21:27, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Does the familiar in the crown only give the extra crown enhancements or do you also get the normal familiar abilities? For example, if I put my hound dog in the crown, do I also get the extra drop %?

Also, You can take a non-underwater familiar underwater while it's in the crown. --bizjeff 16:44, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

MYSTERIOUS ISLAND WAR!! for the most part this item WILL NOT work here.maybe some of the side quests that dont require the war outfits. i.e. wont work to try this with a leprechaun in it to speed up the sisters side quest. should work on: The Organic Orchard Junkyard Arena MIGHT work on: McMillicancuddy's Farm Son of a Beach WILL NOT work on Recovering the Sisters' Meat

i"m doing the war now. will update on the side quests. Lord_nknn

Allright! Lets get to it! Can someone with a mad hatrack check this out? -slasher88die

  • The hatrack cannot be enthroned, thus dashing your hopes of wearing a hat that bears a hatrack that wears a hat. --Valliant 04:26, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Same goes for the disembodied hand, so my guess is everything that ever pops up that does not have normal familiar equipment cant be put on the hat --Zweefteef 04:35, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Also, Hatrack cannot equip the Crown of thrones, to my dismay.--EvilBear 07:14, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Has different enchantments depending on the familiar enthroned, I'm going down my list now. --Valliant 04:30, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

It also give random combat effects based on familiar, in addition to the enchantment effect (which gets shown on the hat description). Rock Lobster regenned MP, Adorable Seal Larva dropped random nuggets...--Arbarbonif 04:44, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Misc thought: this is going to make the dressing for success page maintainers somewhat irked, if any of these buffs are rare/awesome for hats. --Valliant 04:37, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

It seems like weight has no effect of the enchantment, but if anyone wants to compare, weights included. Analysis in a moment. --Valliant 04:59, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Have you confirmed this yet? --WarrantyVoid 20:16, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

It seems like there are set categories loosely dependent on the familiar type. The spleen familiars each got Maximum HP/MP. The potato types got Combat Initiative. Starfish thingies got spell damage, while some gravy fairy types got & weapon damage and the elemental fairies got appropriate elemental damage. The pet rock is finally useful! --Valliant 05:20, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

the messages from some familiars make me think that they attack and delevel - hobo monkey and slimeling so far found with these kind of messages --The postman 06:44, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Too tired to do math, but brick chicken seems to increase all stats. With him in the crown, Muscle Base is 847 Changes from From 1229 To 1313,Myst base 334, from 418 to 451, Mox base 307, from 322 to 353. I wanna sleep..... --EvilBear 07:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

  • That makes all attributes +10% , I will add it on the page too. --Christog 10:35, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

The Misshapen Animal Skeleton is definitely incorrect, as a level 10 Disco Bandit, I've achieved higher damage several times now. Highest so far being 78 I think.HaphazardJoy 08:06, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Not sure where to put this, the item drop effects such as the cotton candy carne only work once per fight some of the other effects like the meat from the Leprechaun only work a set number of times (3 in this case) --Uzziah 11:04, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

how does this work?

do you have a familiar from your terrarium fighting with you *and* one in the hat? or does the hat take your active familiar? --Silent Knight 05:31, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

  • The one with you can't be put in the hat. You need to select a familiar from your terrarium.--Fluxxdog 06:01, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Layout

all the combat text is making sorting by combat action impossible. should we add another column and have both combat action and combat text, or would it be better to put flavour text on the familiar pages as is done for lucky tam, maypole and wax lips? --Xavqwyrus 16:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

  • I really think that the relevant information should be put on each familair's page a la the other familiar equipment. Eran of Arcadia 20:23, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
    • I would personally recommend doing something a la the Mad Hatrack, where messages are pulled off onto their own pages and the table here just gives the quick breakdown on the technical aspects. There was a push back then to put Mad Hatrack information on each hat's page, but it never got a strong enough backing. I like having centralized information, personally, rather than having it spread out over a bunch of pages (or duplicated on a bunch of pages). --Flargen 19:04, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
      • I think that the hatrack's solution is good for its page, because there are way, way more hats than there are familiars. I personally like the layout of the page as it stands. Looking at the hatrack's page, the sorting there is pretty broken too, as it sorts lexicographically, rather than by the number multipliers (so spaces float to the top, in descending order). Is sorting something that people even really use for those? It would be a very large, ugly, and sparse table to provide columns for all of the Enchantments as well as Combat Action things with their own columns where sorting would actually make sense. --RoyalTonberry 19:14, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
        • There are 209 pages at Category:Hats, of which 207 appear to be actual hats, and 142 pages at Category:Familiars, with 123 of them actual familiars. I'd say the number of familiars is pretty close to the number of hats. They're both a large, unwieldy number at least. I haven't looked too thoroughly at this page to know exactly how varied the enchantments tend to get, but a browse earlier through showed a lot of patterns/repeats. You wouldn't necessarily need one column for every distinct enchantment. Just one would probably suffice, with "+10 to stats" and "+20% Meat" for entries. Sorting should then lump all of the identical enchantments with each other.
The Hatrack sorting thing could probably be fixed by throwing in some dummy invisible characters; we had a wiki editor at some point who was pretty awesome at dealing with sorting tables, so if you could hunt that guy down he might work up some magic. --Flargen 19:28, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
        • The only reason i did the whole sortable thing in the first place is for checking which Familiars are missing messages, but now i think it would be useful for finding certain enchantments easier--{User:Icon315/sig))

Also needed is a space somewhere that says how frequently the in-combat actions happen. Possibilities include the first 3 combat rounds, once but at an unspecified time, and occasionally but at any time. From what I've seen from the forum anyway. --Lostcalpolydude 17:49, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I was able to make that last column sortable by adding something like <span style="display:none;">Heals MP</span> or <span style="display:none;">Does the Macarena</span> to the beginning of each message. You can see it on my User page. I can't add it to this page since it's too big - with my changes, it's 35kb and counting. --Deus Ex Machina 03:33, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Item name

When I saw this item, it brought to mind the book from the Wheel of Time series (by Robert Jordan) "Crown of Swords" and the book from the Sword of Ice and Fire series (by George R.R. Martin) "A Game of Thrones". Coincidence? --Rintaun 05:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

not a coincidence, both things refer to the same previous event -- Jesus had a crown of thorns placed on his head while on the cross. --Silent Knight 05:36, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Right, forgot about the crown of thorns, which is the more likely reference. --Rintaun 05:51, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I would have said the Shakespeare reference (currently in the References section) was even more obvious and relevant, especially given the much more common corruption of it "heavy is the head that wears the crown". --Banana lord 06:14, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

when using the Green Pixie in the middle of combat against a black pantheri got a message that the pixie found a bottle of tequila from and it said "git yeir heid in the game" (or similar get your head in the game message) --The postman 06:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Message

"In this style 3/11" surveys the scene from atop the throne and sighs.

That's the message I get from my maxed out familiar instead of the extra xp. Can someone add it to the actual page? I'm not good at actual wiki editing, just spading. --EvilBear 06:38, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Bander - Snarky groars and leamps into the frattle, doing a painbow of 4 (+2) (+3) (+3) (+3) (+4) damage. That was against guard turtle.--EvilBear 06:41, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

References

It is very much possible that blue and red combined makes magenta but does people really use that colour name? Every time I've mixed blue and red I've thought it looked like purple to me :) Winterbay 14:23, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Depending on the ratio of blue to red you get different shades. Look at the Slime Potions. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 15:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
When you mix paint together you get purple, when you mix light or "rays" you would get magenta.--Halfvoid 23:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
People above a certain age will be more likely to use the word "magenta" as early home computers used that word for the colour. More to the point, though, this is not in any way a "reference"; what is it even doing on the page? --Campboy 02:12, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

How about Game of Thrones, it's popular enough to get referenced. --UrQuan 18:43, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Johnny Cash reference? "I wear this crown of thorns, upon my liars chair" because of the crown of thrones and the famiLIARS chair upon? --OiBoyRoy 22:31, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Extremely doubtful as thats actually a nine inch nails cover.--Halfvoid 23:13, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a "crown of shit" instead of thorns in the original version? And without the play on words I wouldn't see it as a reference, that's why it refered to Johnny Cash in my eyes... --OiBoyRoy 01:27, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Article times out

Well, if I try to update the main article, I time out with 4 or 5 database errors... Anyway:

Baby Bugged Bugbear

Any idea what this actually does? The error message is cute and all, but does it have any effect?--Fluxxdog 06:55, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Familiar EQ

I've noticed that when you have a flaming familiar doppelgänger on the throned familiar AND one on the active familiar, you get double benefits. I'm wondering if this is true of all Familiar EQ. --Moth 09:16, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I find this much more time-efficient. The "additional effects" might need to be more detailed, but overall I'd prefer this over what is currently on the page. --Gadaree 22:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
  • I was of two minds if that should be filled out as the current page is, or just a summary with the full details on the familiar pages. Currently the familiar pages are kept up to date with maypole, wax lips, etc, messages while those item pages are out of date. I expect this item will eventually suffer the same fate. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 05:18, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
  • I like your table, but would suggest you specify the elemental damage type (stench etc) as well as the value. As well, if you add class="sorttable complextable" to the table it will still be sortable. In any case, the current table is unmaintainable so things need to change. --Fig bucket 23:35, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Sortable table parameters added. As for the "elemental damage type" I've got the damage color coded. You want more? Give an example. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 23:46, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
    • Okay, you got it. In an effort to keep the table smaller, I'm using the second format, even though the first looks better. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:44, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Combat action frequency?

So. I just got one of these and stuck my mosquito in it and it boosted my MP every round, which is sexy-awesome. But some of these things would be just plain ridiculous of they were every round (Adorable Seal Larva, anyone?), and most of them don't say anything at all. Is it every round unless otherwise specified, or have people just not been putting it up?--Billybobfred 00:48, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Item drops are random (exact per-round percentage probably needs spading), attacks also happen (or don't happen) randomly, and HP/MP restoration happens for the first 2-3 rounds of every combat (3 rounds if you get the jump, 2 if you do not. This is my experience at least with the NPZR.) These all happen after your action. --Emtu 17:27, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
On average item drops are less than one per adventure, which isn't insane, but still might be high. It doesn't take many adventures to get five goat cheese pizzas on day one of an ascension with a ubercommon familiar. And with an Ancient Yuletide Troll, I've got booze for day one and fifteen candy canes (1 fullness each) by day two. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:44, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Hunchbacked Minion drop

<Name> says, "take heart, mathter, and use your brains!" dropped a disembodied brain. it appears to be rare (got 2 out of 97 bones). please someone more skilled could add this to the page.-- --Wiseworm 12:17, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Enthroned Stocking Mimic

I started a thread in the KoL forums recently when I noticed the Stocking Mimic not gaining candies or experience while enthroned, despite seeing the standard gains 1 experience point message. CDMoyer stated this was by design. See http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/showpost.php?p=3693115&postcount=5. --Spiny Twizzler 19:51, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Parrot Trooper

The article says that an enthroned parrot does 19 damage but mine, at 1 lb, did 27 one round and 29 the next on the 74th floor of Fernswarthy's Basement so there's apparently a range but we need a lot more data points. --Kitsunegami 01:32, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Luckily foggy went on a data-gathering rampage at kolspading. Observed range for the parrot was 15-30. At some point someone needs to add all that data onto this page. Possibly me in the future, but not right now... :) --Starwed 18:00, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/coldfront/domains/kol.coldfront.net/public_html/thekolwiki/includes/StringUtils.php on line 307 ----Icon315♕ (|) 06:27, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Might as well add the info here then ... - AvangionQ / August 8th, 2010

  • The Alternative Enchantment Table above on this page already lists the hipster. MH message while in throne listed on the Talk:Mini-Hipster page. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:42, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

So is someone going to add the info for the Mini-Hipster to the MAIN PAGE for this article instead of the discussion page?--Lemon-claw 16:55, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Table too big to edit

So, it seems that the table is too big to edit, giving a fatal error when people try. Is there something that can be done about this? Perhaps removing the combat text and just listing what the familiar does? Having the table on the main page missing new familiars of the month kinda sucks. --CheezyBob 00:33, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

  • While I agree the table is obnoxious, I was able to easily add the rows for the two missing familiars without "error messages". --JRSiebz (|§|) 01:31, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
    • Perhaps its the use of templates. I still get the following when trying to add the other two drops for the untamed turtle: --Fig bucket 12:22, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/coldfront/domains/kol.coldfront.net/public_html/thekolwiki/includes/filerepo/LocalFile.php on line 256
I was able to add the untamed turtle drops. Perhaps having sysop rights overrides that particular error? --Starwed 16:14, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
  • So, nothing especially to do with templates then. Rights might make a difference, and I suppose it's not surprising that there'd be different CPU limits for different rights. btw, it worked fine for me in preview, just wouldn't actually save. --Fig bucket 18:27, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Badger

The badger doesn't just drop spooky mushrooms, it drops 2 of the three types. I can't edit the table (repeated errors) so I'm putting this here.
