This food is a quest item. That means it gets removed from your inventory when you Ascend, so you can't just pull it and eat it when you start your new run. You can still pull the ingredients, but it'll cost you 2 pulls per omelette, plus whatever you use to cook the finished product(s). Devious. Secondly, based on the food's description test, some folks were speculating whether or not it gives you more stat points depending on the phases of the moons. Not Soviet Russia?

When this item was added, the Yakov reference seemed plainly obvious to everyone - "You feel like you just got back from Soviet Russia" being a blatant reference to the Yakov-style joke "[anywhere but Soviet Russia,] you have been eaten by a grue. In Soviet Russia, grue has been eaten by YOU!"

Now, out of nowhere, both RyokoYahagi and Evilkolbot claim that this is NOT a reference. I demand an explanation. --Quietust 13:44, 4 May 2006 (CDT)

Soviet Russia, but not Yakov Smirnoff

The Yakov Smirnoff Russian Reveral routine follows a strict formula. It's always "You do B to A. In Soviet Russia, A does B to you." The text doesn't follow that formula, doesn't mention grues eating people, and isn't even about grues. If grue egg omelettes normally go around eating people, I'll reconsider. If this is supposed to be a Russian Reversal, why do you feel like you "just got back from" Soviet Russia? Why don't you feel like you're in Soviet Russia?

On the other hand, the description talks about how gray and lumpy and awful-looking the omlette is. Soviet Russia had a widespread reputation for being cold and gray and dismally utilitarian. You eat this horrible gray food and feel like you were in Soviet Russia. It seemed pretty straightforward to me. Sometimes a reference to Soviet Russia is just a reference to Soviet Russia.

I guess I can see how someone might come up with the Yakov Smirnov thing, but it seems like a stretch to me. Now, how Evilkolbot came to the conclusion that it wasn't a reference to anything is something only he can explain. --RyokoYahagi 14:44, 4 May 2006 (CDT)

Hey guys, just because it doesn't follow Smirnoff's formula doesn't mean it's not a refrence to him. You're overthinking this. It's Smirnoff. Grues normally eat you, but now you're eating a grue, so hence the "soviet russa" remark. Ryanbomber 05:20, 25 May 2006 (CDT)
