Talk:Maximizing Your Item Drops

Due to the 2006 october item of the month, the Plastic Pumpkin Basket, I suggest the "Ascender" coloumn be changed to include it. (That, and equipping it on a Gravy-fairy type familiar has the same effect as a Maypole, plus the elemental damage, at significantly less cost.) - Mojotech

  • Someone needs to account for the new lucky rabbit's foot Item, but I'm not sure which columns it goes in. At least the Ascender, I guess? - Mojotech

How does the item drop rate --SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 21:50, 19 April 2006 (CDT)of a Coffee Pixie compare to the Gravy type familiars (Baby Gravy Fairy, Flaming Gravy Fairy, Stinky Gravy Fairy, Frozen Gravy Fairy)? Then should "gravy type" be changed to "fairy type", well if pixies are fairies ;-) --JRSiebz 21:05, 11 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

On a side note, maybe "tiny plastic xxx" should be changed to "any tiny plastic familiar", so as not to confused with TPSs, TP Hermits, etc.--JRSiebz 01:20, 12 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • You're right again - the first cut was something of a rush job. And now that I think about it, "tiny plastic xxx" could also be confused with tiny plastic porn stars or something of the like!  :) --Gymnosophist 01:48, 12 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Is it worth consistency that a number of the columns on ths page arive at the exact same frequency. Namely is it more confusing to have the different distinctions yet they arrive at the same conclusions.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 17:29, 3 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

The ice pick now adds 15% item drops, which out-does the Plexiglass Pith Helmet's +5lbs to familiar (which would be 5 x 2.5 = 12.5% additional item drops). I'll be changing the chart accordingly... --LoopyChew 03:27, 1 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

  • Should the pith helmet be included under ascender? Ice Pick is good for those who have it, but the pith helmet with the appropriate familiar beats the miner's helmet hands down for an ascender. I'm starting to wonder if there needs to be a skill level between villa and ascender...--Shoptroll 20:12, 18 December 2006 (CST)

What about Mr. Accessory Jr.s? I'm not all that thrilled with this deity/villa/hardcore/&c layout stuff. It doesn't seem to capture the combinations that are possible. Don't get me wrong - it's nice to see a "what if you had the bestest items", but a more useful page would list all the item drops and let the user decide what he can equip. Similar to the Extra Rollover Adventures page. markm 10:44, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

  • I second this. There's a major gap between Ascender and Villa status. I would almost think that Mr. Acessory Jr.s would fall under Ascender or Normmal. --Shoptroll 07:54, 6 July 2006 (CDT)
  • I third this. --Imakuni 17:16, 3 January 2007 (CST)

The closest thing to what you want is the individual catagories if you want to calculate what the best drop rate is for you... then you should do that yourself this page is just to show what the best that you can be is....--Thou Shalt Perish 14:01, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

markm: That's what Game Mechanics is for.--LoopyChew 14:33, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

I added the Blue Tongue to the list, though we don't know the exact +drop addition; I left between Fat Leon's Phat Loot Lyric and Eggs-tra Sensory Perception because thus far its drop rate is perceived to be around 30%. Will insert Object Detection when there's more data regarding its effects.--LoopyChew 08:26, 23 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Someone should also add a field for the Knob Goblin eyedrops. -GG Crono

You can't have two tongues at the same time! Someone should fix that. Free pizza 21:32, 19 April 2006 (CDT)

  • Ok I fixed it, but remember that anyone can edit the wiki (You can edit it too).--SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 21:50, 19 April 2006 (CDT)

Someone should add the blue-frosted astral cupcake to the list (or whichever cupcake increases item drops.)--TellKenzine 14:20, 10 June 2006 (CDT)

  • You could be that someone.--SomeStranger (T | C) 15:27, 10 June 2006 (CDT)
    • I've added it. --Greycat 08:37, 12 June 2006 (CDT)

I've updated the Villa and KoL Deity percentages to reflect the possibility of a 55% item drop boost on the Jekyllin hide belt under the new Moons. I'm surprised nobody had spotted this yet. --Wrldwzrd89 14:53, 3 September 2006 (CDT)

Is there a reason that the Gnauga hide whip is the lower weapon of choice (giving 3% drop boost), as opposed to the Bubble bauble bow, which gives a 5% boost? I don't want to change it if there's a reason I don't see, but it might just not be updated since the bow is relatively new, in which case it should probably be updated. -- octopodey 15:00, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

  • I made the replacement of the bubble bauble bow for the lower two ranks. It's easier to get, and has a marginally higher drop boost. Since the bow is two-handed, the duck-on-a-string is better for maximizing drops, so I didn't replace it. I also adjusted the total drop%, wouldn't mind someone checking my math. --Nifty Nobu 22:12, 21 September 2006 (CDT)
  • Isn't the Plexiglass Pith Helmet a better choice than the Miner's Helmet? There may be people to whom the pith helmet is available (but the ice pick is not), since it takes time to get and not money. --Mr Crac 08:19, 12 November 2006 (CST)

Tongue Effects

Tongue effects available to players are governed by the Maximum Item Buff Value guidelines as detailed in Dressing For Success, which states as follows: "The maximum value of an item that gives the desired buff. Hardcore type players and above have no limit. Normal type players have a 10,000 meat limit, which allows them most of the item buffs, including most of the nice buffs from reagent potions. Apathetic Lizardmen get a limit of 1,000 meat." The best tongue effect comes from Black Snowcones which are currently going for 30,000, whereas the second best tongue effect (for item drops) comes from Blue Snowcones, currently going for 750. Accordingly, Black Tongue is available for Hardcore and above and Blue Tongue is available for Normal and Apathetic Lizardmen. If the Maximum Item Buff Value guidelines are felt to be unreasonable, then proposed changes should be brought up in the Talk:Dressing For Success page rather than making changes that do not conform to the existing standard.--Gymnosophist 19:30, 20 April 2006 (CDT)

  • Oh, I had no idea that was what those totals meant. Previously I had believed that that was the TOTAL amount maximum that players could spend on items. With that said I think that the only real use this page has for players is to show them the highest maintanable item bonus. Do you really think that an apathetic Lizardman could maintain snowcones while using adventures? By maintain I mean keep it going for 100 adventures and use it cost effectively. I would have to say that this is impossible. I know that when I was first starting out I used the maximizing your meat gains table to figure out which meat items I should use. The snowcone and other rare buffs which are received from usable items and are hard to maintain were very misleading in deciding which items and buffs I should use. Now maybe this is not the point of this and the other maximizing your items drops pages. But considering that you have divided the players into sections and not just one group called the "Best Possible items group" shows me that the intent of this page was to be useful. In its current state it is very devious. --SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 20:08, 20 April 2006 (CDT) Nevermind that. I just checked the price for blue snowcones and was shocked to find it only at 500. I would still disagree with letting hardcore players have no buff cost limit but I will take that to the main page. All my edits were based on the assumption that blue snowcones cost 2000 or more meat (similar to the green ones) seems I was wrong...--SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 20:12, 20 April 2006 (CDT)

I thought the Apathetic Lizardman / Slacker category was not supposed to derive benefits from the Bang Potions, per the description of each level. Object Detection comes only from a Bang potion....--Hellion 20:58, 20 April 2006 (CDT)

  • Oops - my error - I'll have to fix that. Thanks.--Gymnosophist 21:59, 20 April 2006 (CDT)

Maximizing (Food) Drops

Rice bowl gives +20% food drops. It would be better than nothing if you're going to have an empty off-hand item slot, and if you're farming for food or edible ingredients, it's better than a second duck-on-a-string.--RyokoYahagi 15:39, 21 April 2006 (CDT)

--Jcj64200031 00:04, 9 July 2006 (CDT)Why doesn't villa have access to a hypnodisk? Villa is capable of being achieved by everyone, and although hypnodisks are ultra rares, they are still physically capable of being found by anyone. They may be expensive as hell, but having access to the backpack, 3 belts, the maypole, and the ice pick is extremely expensive too. as far as I can see, there is only a 1-2% difference between villa and diety. I won't edit it in though, since more than likely someone has a good argument about this. If they feel so inclined to, I'll let someone else edit it in. I suppose that the mr. container would also be achievable with enough cash, and it's even less expensive than the hypnodisk, so I suppose that's a good enough reason for it not to be added. oh well, those are my thoughts.

Ermine and Ocelot

I think that the new reagent potions need to be added. --Someone Else 02:46, 18 July 2006 (CDT)

I think there should be a link to item drop modifiers to allow some people other choices in case they can't obtain any of the item drop modifiers listed. Also, I've been adventuring in the 8-bit Realm a lot so I can get red pixel potions. Considering I can only wield a one-handed weapon if I want to be able to hold the Continuum Transfunctioner, I would like to see a link to all possible item modifiers so I can find a one-handed weapon that increases item drops.--Aznpride05 21:39, 2 October 2006 (CDT)

Vampire duck on a string?

Maybe duck on a string should be changed into vampire duck on a string?Discworldian 10:53, 6 December 2006 (CST)

Villa Price Range

The current mall price of Newbiesport™ backpacks, ice picks, and Jekyllin hide belts put them all out of the range of Villa. I didn't change anything because I am not sure how closely this is regulated (ie does anybody care)--Blibbler 02:53, 3 January 2007 (CST)
