Talk:Maximizing Your Item Drops
Suggested Changes
Bounty hunting rig in ascender column? Given that the column is supposed to be for casual or new players to the game, I really not thinking that's the right spot for it. The outfit takes 45 days of lucre farming. At approximately 40 turns per lucre, that's 1800 turns. If spent in the castle farming, figuring a mere 600 meat per turn between direct meat drops and items, that's over 1 million meat. --Dantose 10:08, 14 December 2007 (CST)
I move that the Greateful Undead Tshirt be included in the ascender list, because it seems entirely unreasonable for the only recommended shirt to be the Flaming Pink shirt available to villa and above. How 'bout some love for the small guys? --Soup of can 00:14, 28 September 2007 (CDT)
- Ascenders are not allowed to wear shirts. There is, however, a lapsed discussion about expanding the skills allowed to ascenders. --Bagatelle 18:57, 28 September 2007 (CDT)
- Not only is there nothing mentioned in that page about shirts, I think omitting the Grateful Undead T-shirt means denying users of the wiki information they could very well use.... Given a little motivation, an ascender could easily wear shirts.PassionFever 20:41, 8 October 2007 (CDT)PassionFever
- The skill Torso Awaregness is a non-buff skill and as such they wouldn't have access to it. --Chunky_boo 21:10, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
- I'm not saying I disagree with you, PassionFever -- the character classifications, except for "everything" and "nothing," are completely arbitrary. It's the established methodology. As I alluded to above, it would be nice if everyone who is unhappy with the current state of affairs contribute to the discussion on the Dressing... talk page so we could come to a consensus. Heck, Chunky_boo is on record as saying he likes adding Awaregness to Ascenders. --Bagatelle 22:01, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
- Wow, I'm amazed that semantic hairsplitting trumps helping the wiki users. The whole point of the table is to provide information. Someone who is an ascender, reading this page to try and get a little further, might think there's no possible shirt that helps them AT ALL for item drops, unless they a) got the TA skill and b) bought a very expensive item, which is not the case and certainly not in the spirit of these tables. Reverting it to not include the GU T-shirt is willfully obscuring useful information simply making it harder for the wiki users. But hey, I tried.PassionFever 00:15, 9 October 2007 (CDT)
- According to this, Ascenders get both non-buff class skills and Zodiac Sign Bonuses. Surely both of these would include Torso Awaregness, thereby making the GU T-Shirt a perfectly viable option for the 'Ascender'. --AtroPhied 12:23, 30 October 2007 (CDT)
Why in the KoL Deity line are the Bounty Hunting Pants (15% + 15% for outfit) ditched in favour of the Plexiglass Pants (20%)? That seems to be in error, or perhaps left over from before we knew the outfit bonus. --CheshireKatz 11:20, 17 September 2007
- The bounty hunting rig provides a total of 65%, including the outfit effect. The Deity column as it currently stands has 75% in the same slots. --Bagatelle 16:43, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
A few of the mysterious island reward medals could take the place of the rabbit's feet, no?--Joel 20:39, 19 July 2007 (CDT)
Wouldn't the bottle-rocket crossbow also be better than a bar whip or duck-on-a-string for KoL Deity? Since it would be 10% instead of the 5% from the whip/duck. --StealthPenguin 09:00, 3 July 2007 (CDT)
I added dual bottle-rocket crossbows to the Villa column, as this beats out the bounty-hunting rifle, but is a little too costly for most players.--Therum 08:02, 3 July 2007 (CDT)
Due to the 2006 october item of the month, the Plastic pumpkin bucket, I suggest the "Ascender" coloumn be changed to include it. (That, and equipping it on a Gravy-fairy type familiar has the same effect as a Maypole, plus the elemental damage, at significantly less cost.) - Mojotech —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 02:24, 1 October 2006 (CDT).
- The cost of the pumpkin makes it available only to Villa and above - see Dressing For Success#Explanation of Methodology. --Gymnosophist 07:49, 1 October 2006 (CDT)
- Someone needs to account for the new lucky rabbit's foot Item, but I'm not sure which columns it goes in. At least the Ascender, I guess? - Mojotech —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 00:08, 6 July 2006 (CDT).
How does the item drop rate of a Coffee Pixie compare to the Gravy type familiars (Baby Gravy Fairy, Flaming Gravy Fairy, Stinky Gravy Fairy, Frozen Gravy Fairy)? Then should "gravy type" be changed to "fairy type", well if pixies are fairies ;-) --JRSiebz 21:05, 11 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- I don't know for sure, but I think that the drop rates are comparable (it would be a nice project to find out - Talk:Data Collection Guidelines). But you're right, for consistancy with the Items from Monsters page, it should be "fairy". :) --Gymnosophist 00:12, 12 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
On a side note, maybe "tiny plastic xxx" should be changed to "any tiny plastic familiar", so as not to confused with TPSs, TP Hermits, etc.--JRSiebz 01:20, 12 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- You're right again - the first cut was something of a rush job. And now that I think about it, "tiny plastic xxx" could also be confused with tiny plastic porn stars or something of the like! :) --Gymnosophist 01:48, 12 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
Is it worth consistency that a number of the columns on ths page arive at the exact same frequency. Namely is it more confusing to have the different distinctions yet they arrive at the same conclusions.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 17:29, 3 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)
The ice pick now adds 15% item drops, which out-does the Plexiglass Pith Helmet's +5lbs to familiar (which would be 5 x 2.5 = 12.5% additional item drops). I'll be changing the chart accordingly... --LoopyChew 03:27, 1 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
- Should the pith helmet be included under ascender? Ice Pick is good for those who have it, but the pith helmet with the appropriate familiar beats the miner's helmet hands down for an ascender. I'm starting to wonder if there needs to be a skill level between villa and ascender...--Shoptroll 20:12, 18 December 2006 (CST)
What about Mr. Accessory Jr.s? I'm not all that thrilled with this deity/villa/hardcore/&c layout stuff. It doesn't seem to capture the combinations that are possible. Don't get me wrong - it's nice to see a "what if you had the bestest items", but a more useful page would list all the item drops and let the user decide what he can equip. Similar to the Extra Rollover Adventures page. markm 10:44, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
- I second this. There's a major gap between Ascender and Villa status. I would almost think that Mr. Accessory Jr.s would fall under Ascender or Normmal. --Shoptroll 07:54, 6 July 2006 (CDT)
- I third this. --Imakuni 17:16, 3 January 2007 (CST)
- Um, you're replying to pretty old conversation, but anyway the page Items from Monsters does exactly this. And just to keep things clear, the reason that Mr. Accessory Jr.s aren't listed under Ascender or Normal can be seen here. --TheDotGamer 17:49, 3 January 2007 (CST)
- The closest thing to what you want is the individual catagories if you want to calculate what the best drop rate is for you... then you should do that yourself this page is just to show what the best that you can be is....--Thou Shalt Perish 14:01, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
- markm: That's what Game Mechanics is for.--LoopyChew 14:33, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
I added the Blue Tongue to the list, though we don't know the exact +drop addition; I left between Fat Leon's Phat Loot Lyric and Eggs-tra Sensory Perception because thus far its drop rate is perceived to be around 30%. Will insert Object Detection when there's more data regarding its effects.--LoopyChew 08:26, 23 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
Someone should also add a field for the Knob Goblin eyedrops. -GG Crono —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 15:13, 29 March 2006 (Central Standard Time).
You can't have two tongues at the same time! Someone should fix that. Free pizza 21:32, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
- Ok I fixed it, but remember that anyone can edit the wiki (You can edit it too).--SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 21:50, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
Someone should add the blue-frosted astral cupcake to the list (or whichever cupcake increases item drops.)--TellKenzine 14:20, 10 June 2006 (CDT)
- You could be that someone.--SomeStranger (T | C) 15:27, 10 June 2006 (CDT)
- I've added it. --Greycat 08:37, 12 June 2006 (CDT)
I've updated the Villa and KoL Deity percentages to reflect the possibility of a 55% item drop boost on the Jekyllin hide belt under the new Moons. I'm surprised nobody had spotted this yet. --Wrldwzrd89 14:53, 3 September 2006 (CDT)
Is there a reason that the Gnauga hide whip is the lower weapon of choice (giving 3% drop boost), as opposed to the Bubble bauble bow, which gives a 5% boost? I don't want to change it if there's a reason I don't see, but it might just not be updated since the bow is relatively new, in which case it should probably be updated. -- octopodey 15:00, 4 September 2006 (CDT)
- I made the replacement of the bubble bauble bow for the lower two ranks. It's easier to get, and has a marginally higher drop boost. Since the bow is two-handed, the duck-on-a-string is better for maximizing drops, so I didn't replace it. I also adjusted the total drop%, wouldn't mind someone checking my math. --Nifty Nobu 22:12, 21 September 2006 (CDT)
- Isn't the Plexiglass Pith Helmet a better choice than the Miner's Helmet? There may be people to whom the pith helmet is available (but the ice pick is not), since it takes time to get and not money. --Mr Crac 08:19, 12 November 2006 (CST)
- The rationale for this case be found here. --TheDotGamer 09:57, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
- I'd recommend that the makeshift cape be added to the Apathetic Lizardman column in place of one of the tiny plastics.--SeeSaw 14:20, 2 March 2007 (CST)
- I updated it to include lucky rabbit's feet for all three accessories, since they are actually quite cheap (and even cheaper and more effective that the makeshift cape). --TheDotGamer 09:57, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
- Bar whip now gives same +5% to items when lep-type familiar is equipped but also +10%meat with a coffee pixie type. suggested as possible better alternative to (vampire)duck on a string--Sir Roger 09:15, 4 April 2007 (CDT)
- I've added it as an alternate choice for the respective classes. Since this page deals exclusively with item drops it makes the most sense to list all possible alternatives with equal distribution. The user can then decide when is better in his or her case. --TheDotGamer 10:19, 4 April 2007 (CDT)
Shouldn't Baron Von Ratsworth's Monocle fit in here somewhere? It's better than a rabbit's foot.--Zolar the czakl 15:47, 5 August 2007 (CDT)
Tongue Effects
Tongue effects available to players are governed by the Maximum Item Buff Value guidelines as detailed in Dressing For Success, which states as follows: "The maximum value of an item that gives the desired buff. Hardcore type players and above have no limit. Normal type players have a 10,000 meat limit, which allows them most of the item buffs, including most of the nice buffs from reagent potions. Apathetic Lizardmen get a limit of 1,000 meat." The best tongue effect comes from Black Snowcones which are currently going for 30,000, whereas the second best tongue effect (for item drops) comes from Blue Snowcones, currently going for 750. Accordingly, Black Tongue is available for Hardcore and above and Blue Tongue is available for Normal and Apathetic Lizardmen. If the Maximum Item Buff Value guidelines are felt to be unreasonable, then proposed changes should be brought up in the Talk:Dressing For Success page rather than making changes that do not conform to the existing standard.--Gymnosophist 19:30, 20 April 2006 (CDT)
Oh, I had no idea that was what those totals meant. Previously I had believed that that was the TOTAL amount maximum that players could spend on items. With that said I think that the only real use this page has for players is to show them the highest maintanable item bonus. Do you really think that an apathetic Lizardman could maintain snowcones while using adventures? By maintain I mean keep it going for 100 adventures and use it cost effectively. I would have to say that this is impossible. I know that when I was first starting out I used the maximizing your meat gains table to figure out which meat items I should use. The snowcone and other rare buffs which are received from usable items and are hard to maintain were very misleading in deciding which items and buffs I should use. Now maybe this is not the point of this and the other maximizing your items drops pages. But considering that you have divided the players into sections and not just one group called the "Best Possible items group" shows me that the intent of this page was to be useful. In its current state it is very devious. --SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 20:08, 20 April 2006 (CDT)Nevermind that. I just checked the price for blue snowcones and was shocked to find it only at 500. I would still disagree with letting hardcore players have no buff cost limit but I will take that to the main page. All my edits were based on the assumption that blue snowcones cost 2000 or more meat (similar to the green ones) seems I was wrong...--SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 20:12, 20 April 2006 (CDT)
I thought the Apathetic Lizardman / Slacker category was not supposed to derive benefits from the Bang Potions, per the description of each level. Object Detection comes only from a Bang potion....--Hellion 20:58, 20 April 2006 (CDT)
- Oops - my error - I'll have to fix that. Thanks.--Gymnosophist 21:59, 20 April 2006 (CDT)
Maximizing (Food) Drops
Rice bowl gives +20% food drops. It would be better than nothing if you're going to have an empty off-hand item slot, and if you're farming for food or edible ingredients, it's better than a second duck-on-a-string.--RyokoYahagi 15:39, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
Why doesn't villa have access to a hypnodisk? Villa is capable of being achieved by everyone, and although hypnodisks are ultra rares, they are still physically capable of being found by anyone. They may be expensive as hell, but having access to the backpack, 3 belts, the maypole, and the ice pick is extremely expensive too. as far as I can see, there is only a 1-2% difference between villa and diety. I won't edit it in though, since more than likely someone has a good argument about this. If they feel so inclined to, I'll let someone else edit it in. I suppose that the mr. container would also be achievable with enough cash, and it's even less expensive than the hypnodisk, so I suppose that's a good enough reason for it not to be added. oh well, those are my thoughts. --Jcj64200031 00:04, 9 July 2006 (CDT)
Ermine and Ocelot
I think that the new reagent potions need to be added. --Someone Else 02:46, 18 July 2006 (CDT)
Link to Item Drop modifiers
I think there should be a link to item drop modifiers to allow some people other choices in case they can't obtain any of the item drop modifiers listed. Also, I've been adventuring in the 8-bit Realm a lot so I can get red pixel potions. Considering I can only wield a one-handed weapon if I want to be able to hold the Continuum Transfunctioner, I would like to see a link to all possible item modifiers so I can find a one-handed weapon that increases item drops.--Aznpride05 21:39, 2 October 2006 (CDT)
- I don't know how this got overlooked for so long, but I included a link in my most recent update. --TheDotGamer 09:57, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
Vampire duck on a string?
Maybe duck on a string should be changed into vampire duck on a string?Discworldian 10:53, 6 December 2006 (CST)
- Frankly, I'm not seeing either Duck on a String being used by an Apathetic. They're not as cheap as they used to be, by a wide margin.--Terry 18:41, 29 November 2007 (CST)
Villa Price Range
The current mall price of Newbiesport™ backpacks, ice picks, and Jekyllin hide belts put them all out of the range of Villa. I didn't change anything because I am not sure how closely this is regulated (ie does anybody care)--Blibbler 02:53, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Hardcore Ascender?
Would it be worth adding a hardcore ascender category in, which would then take care of where to put the Plexiglass Pith Helm, and could possibly be used for the other less-than-villa questionable items?--Lord kobel 09:48, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Include the belts?
I just checked the mall, and the price for Jekyllin Hide Belts was about 15 million. I thought the ceiling for the price of Villa level equipment was 10 million. Should it continue to be included? If not, then I think the next option is Mr. Accessory Jrs.
- Sorry, forgot to sign.--DoctorWorm 00:25, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
- I removed them from the Villa level in my most recent update. Mr. Accessory Jr. is now in their place. Also the Newbiesport™ backpack was removed and the ice pick was replaced with the pith helmet as per Blibbler above. --TheDotGamer 09:57, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
Le Mie Cose Favorite by the Strung-Up Quartet
The Strung-Up Quartet page now lists Le Mie Cose Favorite as +5% items drops. I'm sure I'd mess up the table if I tried to add it. --Crowther 14:26, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
- I added it and listed it as an unconfirmed 5% bonus. I also added it to Items from Monsters. --TheDotGamer 09:07, 21 March 2007 (CDT)
Mysterious Island Quest Reward Items
Seems to me that even an ascender could easily get ahold of 3 Red Balloons/Uranium Omeagas for 11% each, which would be much better than the rabbit's feet... heck, it's a required quest so even an apathetic lizardman could eventually get them. I'm just sort of poking my nose into the article, though, so I didn't want to change anything until someone more familar with it has a look. --Luthwyhn 12:40, 10 July 2007 (CDT)
Forgive my brain fart. Not three of them, but one of each and then one of the 10% ones (or a monocle) --Luthwyhn 12:57, 10 July 2007 (CDT)
The Wossname plus one of each should be on there, I would think.--Lostcalpolydude 00:13, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
I decided to add all three +11% items for Ascenders. Would a normal player bother getting any of them, and if so, which one? The wossname takes fewer adventures than the other +11% items, but it's also easy to screw up. Maybe someone would take the +10/9/8% item instead. Or things could be left as is.--Lostcalpolydude 03:34, 24 July 2007 (CDT)
I think we should start to decide which categories should be changed to the hound dog - thoughts? --sl1me 12:41, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
- Kind of moot at this point as the formula isn't known yet (?), but I'd say that Deity and Villa is allowed, whereas Ascender and under is not. Dressing For Success#Explanation of Methodology says: "This player has worked very hard and has ascended a number of times, including some hardcore runs, but has not gone to quite the extremes that a Villa player (villan) has." My reading is that "ascending a number of times" isn't long enough to get enough lucre. Although 100 days is arguable, so maybe disallow Normal and under. --Bagatelle 16:43, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
Bucket?
Why is the pumpkin bucket not on the list in place of the maypole? If familiar is at 20 pounds, gives 1.5% more drops.--Hua mei 18:26, 15 February 2008 (CST)
- No it doesn't. Maypole gives +25%; bucket gives +13% + 5*(1.67%) = 21.33% (assuming we're using a fairy base). --Flargen 19:45, 15 February 2008 (CST)
