I'd guess that dowels like runes don't alter the furniture type just its stats, possibly trying to find the correct amount of dowels for maximum effectiveness? Or maybe more dowels is just more levels. Anyway.
- 5 planks, 37 dowels, 5 brackets = level 5, ceiling fan
- 5 rails, 37 dowels, 5 brackets = level 5, dishrack
