This is a little pocket of caustic fluid, dripping and pulsing within a thin membrane of Slime. Mother Slime must've absorbed something that disagreed with her, and formed a protective layer of mucous around it.
The fluid appears to be highly reactive with Slime -- the enclosing sac is perpetually being dissolved and growing back.
