Category talk:Monsters With Unknown Parts
From A KoL Wiki
Is this really an appropriate category? "Unknown parts" is just "any part that isn't head/leg/wing/arm". Torso, eyestalk, camera, cuticle... I'm not exactly sure how useful the other four categories are, but this one seems super meaningless. --KingBobson (talk) 08:51, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- What if I told you that this was the category for monsters who haven't been spaded for parts yet.-Toffile (talk) 11:53, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- I do agree that it is for unspaded monster parts, but two additional points: 1) I think this category should also include monsters that don't have the tag on them at all, since almost every monster does not have it. 2) We should have a separate category for monsters with weird parts, such as those listed above, as if we made a category for each new part, we would have a ton of categories with 1 or 2 monsters in them. Maybe we could make something its own category if it's useful for something (such as the reanimator) or if there are a lot of monsters with it. — Cool12309 (talk) 14:04, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes that is what it is for.
- Actually, it does list monsters that don't have the tag---not sure why it is so slow to fill in the category though...the job queue shows 0, but clearly not every monster that should be here is listed (but editing a missing monster's page results in them being added to the category)...I suspect part of continuing problems with the update queue.
- I wasn't sure how many different parts there are, so made it make separate categories for anything. A general weird parts category makes sense, and that could be done with an umbrella category, or with some simple changes to the {{PartsCat}} script. --Fig bucket (talk) 19:54, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I forgot about that issue. Is there any way to purge them to update besides having a bot go through and click edit then save? (Isn't there an action=purge thing in mediawiki?). As for the parts, perhaps we leave it have their own category (but don't make the page) just to see how many there are, before we move it into the weird category. I'm not sure how we would handle new part types, as it would be sort of hard to tell how many there are now. Maybe only their own category if it's useful, and never otherwise, even if there are a lot of monsters with them. — Cool12309 (talk) 20:10, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes that is what it is for.
- Oh, whoops. Yeah, that's a super useful category. Sorry! --KingBobson (talk) 21:47, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

This should cover most groupings. Fig, since you and I have done the bulk of this, how would you like to split it up?-Foggy (talk) 19:59, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- Burrow's done actually. My plan was to do Prof. Jacking, kill my remaining adventures in the sea, and then ascend and go through myst sign. --Fig bucket (talk) 22:44, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm in myst sign and can get the parts for it (I've already done the once/ascension monsters though, and got all the factoids so I won't be returning). I also have 2 maps for the landscaper and unearthed monstrosities for their factoids, which I will do in my next two ascensions. Just letting you know so you don't waste your time/meat. — Cool12309 (talk) 22:48, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
