- This is a handy area of the site. I have an idea for some new content. Something that includes the best gear for getting meat, getting items, highest moxie, etc. to set up custom outfits. This shouldn't be too hard, all the info is already there, under Moxie Modifiers for example. Mannerisky 11:43, 5 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- I found what I meant. Dressing For Success
Format
- Especially now that all outfits have a new effect (21 June), perhaps this could be revamped a bit into a table showing outfits, components, effects, tattoo. Would save a lot of clicking around to see different outfits. -Blahquabats
- I've done so, as far as the outfit effects are concerned. I tried including the outfit avatars and tattoos, but it does look a little too crowded that way, so I decided to exclude them in favour of links to the respective outfits. Still, I think it could probably afford a fair bit of touching up, to get it to fit better into the page, so feel free. - Seraphidel [話] Talk 01:54, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
Folks, it would be nice to separate the effects of the outfit from the effects of its components. For example, Encephalic Ensemble is currently listed as giving +10 Mysticality, whereas this is actually an effect of the Cerebral Culottes.--Yiab 02:29, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
I agree. Should we add equipment effects, though? Does this look too cramped? The info is for the 8-Bit Finery; I used the Ninja Suit name because it was one of the longest. --LucySpace (Talk|Cntrbs) 08:53, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
Outfit | Effect | Equipment Effects |
---|---|---|
Hot and Cold Running Ninja Suit | Increased damage against monsters in The Inexplicable Door. | Hat: All Attributes +2 Weapon: Combat Initiative +15% Pants: Maximum HP/MP +10 |
That Looks good LucySpace. We can also link the Hat, Weapon, and Pants to the corresponding item. - WallaWalla23
That's a good idea on the linkage, Wallawalla; should we link to effects too? Color the elemental enchantments?
Alternatively, we could use a table like the one below. I think I like the one above better, though. Most outfits will have only one or two effects (one if it had no enchantment before, two otherwise) and three equipment pieces. I have to go to class soon, so I can't do it now. If someone wants to take it up as a project, go for it; otherwise, I'll work on it when I get done with class stuff. --LucySpace (Talk|Cntrbs) 09:36, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
Outfit | Effect | Equipment Effects |
---|---|---|
Hot and Cold Running Ninja Suit | ||
Increased damage against monsters in The Inexplicable Door. | Hat: All Attributes +2 | |
Additional unknown effect | Weapon: Combat Initiative +15% | |
Pants: Maximum HP/MP +10 |
I like LucySpace's, with one minor adjustment:
Outfit | Outifit Effect(s) | Equipment Effect(s) |
---|---|---|
Hot and Cold Running Ninja Suit | So-so hot and cold resistance. |

Also, on the actual outfit pages, I think we should add the requirements for the overall outfit.--Dehstil (t|c) 13:46, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
Dehstil: I saw your edit kind of late. :( Sorry. The difference is in the Equipment Effects section. If you want to change it, it might be somewhat easily-done using a word processor and replace all.
Others: Please check the table for continuity. I tried to be fairly methodical, but I might have miscopied links or left an extra field in somewhere. I used personal knowledge to discern when an outfit effect was an effect that existed before recently or if it's an additional effect. These might be off. I used the page history occasionally but not in all cases. The primary effect is listed on the first line and the additional effect on the second unless it had no effect before. This is why I line breaked some of them and used the "&" character for others. I don't think it's necessary to add avatars or tattoos to the table. Pages that display all of those at once already exist. Thank yous to: the zapping template; the Ctrl+c, +v, and +h shortcuts; and Seraphidel for creating the original table. --LucySpace (Talk|Cntrbs) 15:05, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
Mini-projects:
- Random formatting: some effects end in periods and some don't. I don't know if it's necessary to put them in or not. A lot of this is due to the differences in the way Seraphidel created the table and the way I copied and pasted enchantments.
- Add links to modifiers pages on outfit pages lacking them. These are already existent on most of the equipment pages but with lots of different people updating outfit enchantments, some of them might lack that. (Ex, See Also: Bonus Melee Damage}
- Add the requirements for the overall outfit on outfit pages.
- The ordering of equipment pieces on outfit is occasionally weird. Pants sometimes show up before weapons, etc. The new template might fix that.
- Check updates on outfit pages for continuity with table.
- Confirm values on outfits listed with effects that are the same as enchantments on pieces of the outfit. See (needs confirmation) on the table. The harem girl outfit's +1 moxie exists in the notes and not in the enchantment, so be cautious when looking for that.
The swashbuckling getup mentions 13 moxie but adds up to 11(I think this has been fixed). Other discrepancies may exist. This is new information; much of it needs checking.
--LucySpace (Talk|Cntrbs) 15:05, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
- Should the overall effects of an outfit be figured out, and if so, should they go on the table or the respective pages? Also, there are MANY link candidates in the table; it looks like all the things that can be found under game mechanics have not been made into links, leaving links to only location and the elements, should the others be links?--Dehstil (t|c) 21:44, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
New Outfit Effect Confirmation
I double-checked both Bow Tux and Encephalic Ensemble. Bow Tux definitely only gives the +5 per stat that comes with each piece of equipment. Encephalic Ensemble does not give an additional MP or Mysticality bonus beyond what you gain from the equipment. Both probable have more subtle changes.---Foggy, 4:52PM EST, June 21
- extreme cold weather gear? scarf gives +5 myst, which would give +5mp. are you sure the outfit gives 5 extra? --Evilkolbot 16:31, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
- It's possible I was mistaken with the +10 melee damage of the Elite guard suit. I didn't notice the muscle boost, so my increased damage could have come from that. --Linkman95 05:08, 22 June 2006 (CDT)
- I have been occasionally been getting 2-3 extra substats with the yendorian finery on.--Punk27 12:08, 22 June 2006 (CDT)
It's pretty clear that the hippy disguise does +5 stench damage.
I sure it's the same with the frat boy disguise. I'm just removing the confirmation on the hippy disguise for now, but someone who's seen the frat boy effect first hand should remove that one.--Linkman95 18:04, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
- Yep. Needs confirmation was added because some people were adding effects that were the same as equipment enchantments. Those two looked similar to the equipment effects. Both of these are confirmed as additional outfit effects, +8 and +9 total. --LucySpace (Talk|Cntrbs) 18:30, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
Pirate outfit gives 10% more moxie instead of +5.
I am getting a +7 to my moxie over the eyepatch and pants. Last thing I put on is the parrot, and my moxie jumps from a buffed 75 to 82. Either theres a +7 moxie or a +10% moxie on the outfit --grimdel 1:33am, 22 June 2006 (PST)
Tested it on two characters, with massively different base moxie. Both times the outfit granted an extra 7 moxie.--Supernova163 04:19, 22 June 2006 (CDT)
Tested on my main character, with a base moxie of 49. Gain was +7 (on top of +6 from equipment).--Foggy 08:06, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
Encephalic Ensemble
Here are some of things I have tried to research. I haven't done large samples, but here's some of the things I can guarantee.
- No stat gain (other than the outfit itself)
- No HP/MP stat gain (other than the outfit itself)
- Does not regenerate HP/MP
- Does not appear to provide additional stat gains for yourself OR for your familiar
- Does not appear to affect spell damage. (I tested 10 rounds at the Lair with the outfit, then again without the crossbow. Spell damage was always 46 or 48 in both instances.
- Does not appear to affect initiative. (In each set, I gained initiative 3 times, lost it 7)
- Does not appear to affect item drops. (I actually got more items in the second set, but not by much)
Yendorian Finery
For the last two days, I've been equipped with nothing but the Yendorian Finery Outfit, and my Pet Rock Familiar. I've learned the following things:
- The 3 Items in the Set give the following Bonuses: +3 Mysticality, +3 Moxie, x2 Crit Chance, +5 Monster Level.
- The set does not change my Stats, other than what the items give. My MP increases, but because I am a Sauceror, I get about 1.5 MP per Mysticality, and the +3 Mysticality gives me about 5 extra MP.
- Adventuring in the DoD yesterday seemed to make monsters occur less frequently, but I think that was just Random.
- Damage was about the same for any monster I tried to fight - in the DoD or not.
- It seemed like I was getting a slight stat increase, but it only seemed to be like 1%, so I think it was just more randomness.
- I tried using the word "Elbereth" in the Chat (a long shot), but nothing happened.
- I did not notice any change in the drops, either in meat or items.
- The only thing that I have not tried is wearing the outfit BEFORE getting the wand... I wonder if that would make a difference...
- Adventuring with the outfit when the DoD is still the Enormous Greater-than-Sign doesn't seem to affect anything...
- I ran out of adventures for the day (thank you, Teleportitis... :( ) and managed to get in to the DoD, but noticed no effect. All 7 adventures I got to spend in the DoD were monsters, so I think perhaps the reduced combat theory is not holding up... oh well, I'll try some more tomorrow, unless someone else comes up with the answer first.--SeiferTim 12:44, 22 June 2006 (CDT)
- Reduced combat adventures may actually be the effect here, which makes sense given the "Elbereth" reference (which, in Nethack, scares away monsters when you engrave it on the floor). --Quietust 12:22, 22 June 2006 (CDT)
- I thought so, because it seemed like I got a bunch of non-monster adventures in a row at first, but I started keeping track, and it ended up being about the same with the outfit as without. About 3 monsters to 1 non-monster Adventure.--SeiferTim 12:32, 22 June 2006 (CDT)
Standards?
There seems to be 3 different ways of stating the info in the outfits' pages.
- 1. just putting it in notes
- 2. having it under the equipment needed with the title of "Enchantment"
- 3. putting it in notes, with bullets.
Which should we choose?--Fly boy42 21:24, 29 June 2006 (CDT)
Where?
Where is a good place to test outfits? I'm going to test the Lumberjack one. --Wallawalla23 15:12, 3 July 2006 (CDT)
